the bad news tonight is the en is not in sight. up in manchester this afternoon we watched two men walk into a safe station and get help right away. here in nashua they're not able to offer safe station yet. but they want to. the success of safe stations in manchester garnering national attention. the chief of police in the bronx wants to try the mod nell new york, and in nashua safe station is a priority for the opioid task force pieces missing, including funding, access to recovery centers and licensed clowns lores available around the clock. that's keeping fire stations here in nashua from offering the same respite. >> the reaction is shock, we're on the third dave october, we've already had three deaths in nashua fromover doses, which is not acceptable. >> it's an every day occurrence, in this fire house they probably do more overdose calls than any

reporter: at 5:00 we told you nashua has recorded 50 fatalities to date. in manchester thief recorded 167 fatalities. and taken over 1300 overdose calls so far this year. city leaders desperate families and first responders say they refuse to give up. but they are most certainly disheartened by the latest numbers. amy coveno, wmur news 9. tom: heading out now. thanks. the deadly fire being investigated over in seabrook, it happened at a ground floor apartment at the governor ware complex on lafayette. firefighters found the man when they were checking to make sure everyone had gotten out. officials believe the fire started in that unit. jennifer: a former volunteer firefighter who admittedded to starting two brush fires will spend at least two and a half years in prison. through his lawyer, david plante

wmur's andy hershberger was there and says plante will also never be allowed to join any other fire department. reporter: as part of david plant's plea bargain, he will no longer be allowed to be associated with any fire department. the former stoddard firefighter pleaded guilty to two counts of arson today. he was sentenced to a minimum of two and a half years in prison. he admitted to starting two brush fires in april of 2016, burning about 200 acres of land. at one fire pla other firefighters who found him in the woods to take a cell phone picture of him near the flames. prosecutors say he started one fire with a flint and another using a glass bottle and sunlight. there were no injuries and no homes were damaged. prosecutors say this is a fair sentence given the circumstances. >> i thought it was an appropriate sentence. otherwise i wouldn't have made the proposal. and it carries with it some significant punishment for

two and a half to seven in state prison. reporter: his lawyer apologized for what he did and for the emotional damage he caused. andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: lots of heavy hearts among manchester firefighters today and all over the city. former manchester fire chief joe kane died sunday night. kane joining the department in 1971. he was promoted to chief in 1994, held that position until his retirement in 2007. the department lowered to half staff. the chief says they will remain lowered until kane is laid to rest. >> to me he's just a good guy, just a friend, a friend of the department, a friend of the fire service. i think his biggest mark here would be fire prevention of he came from the ranks of fire prevention, which is one of the only chiefs that kind of didn't come through that route.

friday afternoon in manchester. jennifer: the u.s. coast guard member hit by a van has now passed away. deurl police say 22-year-old richard davies was hit friday morning on route 4 and died yesterday. he was stationed at the portsmouth naval shipyard. police say no charges are expected to be filed. tom: tonight a salem mother is facing chide endangerment charges after police say her young daughter accidentally ran over her sister with a car. the moth 7-year-old permission to start the car, which then ran over her 2-year-old daughter. mike cronin live in sale well the latest developments tonight. reporter: tom, a warrant for the mother's arrest was issued over the weekend, and last night she turned herself in here at salem police headquarters. 27-year-old amy lynn bowham is facing two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one

vehicle. he she gave her keys to her 7-year-old daughter to start the car outside her apartment on south policy street. investigators say the child accidentally put the car into gear and backed over her 2-year-old sister. they say the 7-year-old screamed for help and the mother called 911. the toddler suffered broken bones, bruises and other nonlife threatening injuries and was flown to a boston hospital. >> juvenile detectives have worked with department of children, youth and place and they're going to monitor that to make sure that the children continue to be safe. reporter: police say the girl's father will be part of that safety plan. meanwhile the mother was released on $3,000 personal recognizance bail and will face a judge next month. mike cronin, wmur news 9. jennifer: a quick response helped officers track down a bank robbery suspect. manchester police say

the td bank on franklin street this afternoon, he handed the teller a note saying he had a weapon and demanding cash. officers then spotted faucher only three minutes after the description was broadcast. police also arrested faucher for an attempted robbery at the 7-11 on maple street last week. tom: right now hurricane matthew is headed forth with haiti, jamaica and cuba in its path, and in haiti 13,000 people have been evacuated areas, the powerful category 4 storm is expected to hit the island nation the hardest with flooding rains and 140-mile per hour winds. here in the u.s., governors in florida and north carolina have now declared a state of emergency as the storm tracks toward the u.s. let go to mike haddad, he's here now with a look at the latest track. mike all eyes on this powerful hurricane, the win is one issue, the rain something else. in haiti, one to two and a half

24 to 36 hours. it a direct hit over that time frame, right over haiti in the eastern part of cuba. we'll put the storm track on here and track it out over the next several days. by tomorrow afternoon over cuba, that means along and to the east of the center, that's where the most damaging win will occur, so over haiti along with that flooding rain, one to two and a half feet. then the ba happen as in line to get battered by a after that the track becomes very tricky. will it be steered into eastern florida? somewhere along the georgia or carolina coast? or scoot out to sea and even a remote possibility that somewhere in between one of those tracks works up towards new england including new hampshire by the mid to end part of this weekend. we'll take a look at all those possibilities, explain why one scenario could work over another, and much more, in a few

tom: the extended drought along with low milk prices have dairy farms in new hampshire asking for help. jennifer: lawmakers met in concord today to see what kind of aid could be offered. an emergency relief fun was establish forward dairy farmers back in 2008. however, it was never funded. some dairy farms have already closed >> definitely in need of assistance. low crops from the drought, low milk prices. we're on our knees and beyond. jennifer: in recent months, 19 of new hampshire's 20 operating dairy farms have shut down. mike: with the extreme drought continuing over a good part of of southern new hampshire we could use any rain we can get

on the track of this monster hurricane. powerful wind of 140 miles per hour sustained, with hurricane pathieu, and the latest track is jogging to the north at a slow clip. that's important to the track beyond the lit part of this week. notice how it works right over western portions of haiti, as a major category 4 hurricane, not only damaging devastating catastrophic winds but one t a possibly three feet of rain. that's right. we average about three feet of rain in an entire year. haiti could see that over the next 36 hours. eastern cuba same story. eventually it jogs to the northwest with steering current moving it towards the sunshine state. along about early thursday or friday. beyond that very tricky. does the storm batter eastern portions of florida, remain just far enough off shore after

does it start to churn farther to the north and east? eventually it will get a boot up toward the eastern seaboard and out to sea, but will that be after a hit along the east coast, including new hampshire, or will it be harmlessly out to sea sometime on sunday. look at all of our computer models, dozens of them here on our spaghetti chart. we track them through eastern cuba, very well consolidated track over the bahamas through wednesday night. notice how the track becomes more s frame. thursday night into friday, some actually work it right through new york and in towards new hampshire, while many others drive it out to sea. with a will be the determining factor? this approaching trough back through portions of the northern plains, it begins to steer the hurricane either up the atlantic seaboard or out to sea, and that's all dictated by where matthew is friday morning. we're going to have to wait, believe it or not, until thursday night, early friday to see if it's that far north.
