i'm sean mcdonald. yesterday we started out misty, and gray, and crummy. in the end, it turned into a nice day. kevin: temperatures into the low to mid 70's. a lot cooler starting with the clouds and patchy fog, giving way to sunshine. temperatures will run a solid ten degrees cooler through the afternoon. temperatures starting the day in the 50's for the most part and a jump into the low to mid 60's for most with a light northeasterly breeze and a warming trend setting up for the end of the hurricane in matthew. we'll have more on the track as the advisory is coming in now in just a little bit. let's look at the tuesday morning ride. we're joined live by deb davidson. deb: good morning. we have road work slowing things down. as you make your way through manchester from exit 5 to the lower 293 split. things are looking good making your way through the state.

in massachusetts right now, all major highways are up to speed at this check. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: we start with a developing story out of barnstead. police and firefighters spent the night at the scene of a fire in oxbow road. sean: ray brewer live from the fire department in barnstead this morning. i understand one person was seriously hurt in this. when firefighters arrived, they found one person outside of the home. the person was transported. no ward on their condition yesterday. firefighter describe him as seriously injured. it was just about 11:00 when firefighters were called to 80 oxbow road in barnstead. when they arrived, they had flames shooting 50 to 60 feet in the air. firefighters were hampered in their access. you can tell it is a rural area. some powerlines had come

the fire captain says they had problems getting water to the scene because of the drought situation. many of their fire ponds are low. they went to three alarms to bring additional personnel and tankers to the scene. the fire captain says it took about an hour and a half to get the fire under control. at one point there were 200 firefighters there. no one else was injured. they had to try to keep the fire from spreading to the surrounding trees. they were able to do that and the three story wooden structure. as far as how this fire started, well, the state fire marshal's office has been called in to lead the investigation. they are expected here later this morning. reporting live in barnstead, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: all right. thank you. an autopsy is scheduled for today on the man who died in a fire in seabrook. we first told you about the fire on lafayette road yesterday morning right here on "daybreak." they have not released the victim's name.

figure out how the flame started. the fire was contained to the first floor apartment. other residents should be allowed in soon. sean: hurricane matthew started pounding southern haiti. the center of the storm is expected to pass near the tip within the next couple of hours with 145 mile per hour winds and torrential rains as well. the powerful category 4 storm is already blamed for three deaths in the caribbean. the worst is yet to come with rainfall could top three feet in some areas of haiti where more than 1,000 shelters are open. there were concerns about massive mud slides and a second landfall is expected later this morning in eastern coup da, not far from guantanamo bay. now florida and north carolina are under a state of emergency with the forecast showing potential impacts along the east coast. you could track hurricane matthew on our -- on the home page of our web site at wmur.com

page as well. learn more about hurricanes and the history of this storm. erin: the drug crisis seems to be getting worse in nashua with the gate city reporting its deadliest month for overdoses this year. seven people died in september and three more have already died in the first three days of october. that brings the total number of overdose deaths in nashua to 50 this year. officials say they would like to launch a safe stations program. they don't havehe funding or enough access to recovery centers. >> the reaction is shock. particularly with october. the third day of october we've had three deaths just here in nashua from overdoses. which is -- it is not acceptable. >> it is an everybody occurs. the fire house right here, they probably do more overdose calls than any other company in the city. erin: in manchester, the city has reported 77 deadly overdose this is year and responded to more than 600 overdose calls.

acquaintance at a home in nashua. 25-year-old edward ma maselli was arrested. he tried to return from officers. he was charged with resists arrest. a member of the u.s. coast guard passed away after he was struck by a van in durham. 22-year-old richard davies was hit friday morning and died on sunday. he was stationed at the investigators do not expect to file any charges. erin: two teachers are accused of vandalizing a new sidewalk being built in front of their school. police in windsor, vermont say construction crews asked abigail and jennifer to leave because the concrete was wet. the women came back a short time later and drew in the concrete before running away. it will cost $1,500 to fix the damage.

erin: the just supreme court says it will not take up the appeal from former boston mob boss, whitey bulger. bulger claimed his trial was unfair because he was not able to present his claim he was given immunity by the feds while working as an informant. he's serving a life sentence for his role in 11 murders. erin: failing farms. the drought is causing serious problems for help could be on the way from the state. sean: keeping the best and brightest in new hampshire. some important efforts were celebrated last night in bowe. erin: ahead at 5:30, the race is heating up with hassan and

kevin: cooler air is rushing in. another warming trend. all of that and the latest advisory on hurricane matthew and its potential track coming up in just a bit. erin: the drought take a toll on local dairy farmers. sean: that's right. milk prices are low. cows are producing less with the drought. law makers met to discuss relief with the goal to provide aid by december. an emergency fund was created back in 2008. it was never actually funded. many farmers say the time is now to provide some money. >> we're definitely in need of some assistance.

drought, low milk prices, we're on our knees and beyond. >> failure is not on option for us. we're pretty young. we just started out five years ago. we're in for the long haul. that's not on option for us. we're going to keep doing. sean: there were 120 operational dairy farms in new hampshire at the start of the year. 19 of them have been forced to shut down. erin: some of new hampshire's outstanding young professionals were recognized at an award ceremony in bowe. the rising star awards were given out by stay, work, play, an organization that encourages 20 and 30 years old to come to or stay in the granite state. the event highlights groups that are recruiting young people. >> we work closely with all of the young professionals networks lout the state. there are 15 groups at this point. lots of representatives from those groups are here. we have past winners, all of the finalist, judges are different

struggle to apply. in ten seconds, you have even coverage over your body. the town of summitt, new jersey is offered free or discounted rides to the train station. others with parking permits can get free rides from home. the program could save taxpayers about $5 million over the next 20 years. sean: the state of maine is recalling clams and muscles harvested in some of the shellfish tested positive for a potentially dangerous or even deadly neurotoxin. the first time such a problem has ever been reported. the clams and muscles were harvested last week. dealers are being told to throw the shellfish away. if you want to earn a comfortable living, you may want to avoid certain jobs. they just released a

paying jobs in the state. the lowest pays is or are ushers, lobby attendants, and ticket takers with an average annual salary of $17,500. the next five involve food prep service or cleanup, ob/gyn is the highest paying job in new hampshire. erin: outdoor detailer, cabelas. the deal is valued at $5.5il year after cabela's admitted it was losing business. it is not clear if any stores will close or if jobs will be cut. the ceo of bass pro shop says he wants to continue growing the cabela's brand along with bass. ll bean is getting in on the celebration of david ortiz. the company just released a special tote bag made from rain-delay tarps, featuring a

sean: go in ago pro. erin: it must be a good movie. kevin: fair skies and clouds drifting through. much like yesterday, we should see the clouds erode. temperatures up into the low to mid 60's. gradual warming trend setting up after a cooler start tomorrow morning. all eyes will be tracking matthew closely. its closest pass fors around sunday if most of the maps and the prediction and the track of it are fairly on point. as far as things are concerned, early clouds and patchy fog which should be giving way to sunshine. the next front eventually is the system that will attempt to give a push shove to matthew off shore by the time we get toward the weekend. temperatures in the low to mid 50's. a little bit of light breeze. if anything, it will be light out of the northeast through the afternoon. here's the warming trend back to the midwest.

in far northern areas. low to mid 60's elsewhere with a light breeze out of the northeast into the afternoon. a little bit more organized at the shoreline. the breeze today will be at 10-15 miles an hour through the afternoon. fair skies continue tonight. 35 to 45 in the overnight lows. then a good deal of sunshine around not only tomorrow but through the end of the workweek each of the next several days will be warmer than the day before. low to mid 60's today. mid to upper 60's tomorrow. upper 60's to mid 70's for thursday and as you'll notice, all of that includes a good deal of sunshine through friday. likely starting the holiday weekend that day as well. from there all eyes to the south. here's a category 4 hurricane in matthew. it is slowly moving north. the latest advisory has it moving north around nine miles an hour. that's key. the forward speed to the system as it moves between cuba and haiti and up eventually will try to give it time as it eventually makes its

coastal carolinas. to give the opportunity for that trough to get to the northeast portion of the united states and how much of a push/shove that gives eastward and out to sea or if this moves fast enough and beats the trough here to the northeast, it could eventually send it closer us to us. again the probabilities of this. you notice that the range and the cone of error dictates what the computer models are thinking. again have that centered off of the east coast b you get into computer maps for hurricanes and the hurricane models beyond three or four days, those are very difficult to predict in the exact track of the system within a couple hundred miles. it is something we'll keep tabs on. it is day six. if it is going and we're going to get some rainfall, it would be centered around sunday or sunday night in the middle of the holiday weekend. looks like temperatures continue to warm with an increase in clouds by saturday. we're going to see rain. it might be sunday as it stands now. this is something we

or six days. erin: all right. kevin, thank you. we want to check our top stories. we begin with ray brewer. ray: one person reportedly seriously injured in an overnight fire in barnstead. the fire at 80 oxbow road was reported around 11:00. when they arrived, there was one person outside of the home. that person taken to the hospital. no further update on his condition. firefighters said it took them about an hour and a half t the cause of the fire is under investigation. erin: an autopsy is scheduled for today on the man who died in a fire in seabrook yesterday morning. investigators have not released the victim's name. the state fire marshal's office is still trying to figure out how the flames started. nashua is dealing with a deadly number of drug overdoses. three people have died already this month after seven last month, bringing the total for

rural area. so they did have problems getting equipment down the road. the fire captain rather says when they arrived, there was one person outside of the home. that person was taken to the hospital with what's described as serious injuries. the fire captain says they fought hard to keep the fire from spreading to the surrounding woods. they were able to do that. during the course of the fire though, some powerlines had come down blocking part of the acss the yes to the house there. that meant there was only one way in and out. there were other problems as well. >> concerns fighting the fire with water and supplies. with the drought conditions, we have no water around. we had the three-alarm fire full of water concerns. ray: no firefighters were injured in starting the fire. the fire marshal's office has been called in.

reporting live in barnstead, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: thank you. all eyes are on the caribbean. the hurricane is churning as a category 4 storm packing winds of up to 145 miles per hour. just the outer bands have caused street flooding and forced evacuations. the worst is yet to come. matthew is expected to dump as much as 40 inches of rain in some areas, raising fears heavily deforested country. the storm is blamed for at least three deaths. the u.s. forecasters say it is too soon to tell how the east coast could be impacted. sean: the danger of hurricane matthew is hundreds of miles away, the impact is still being felt here in the granite state.

boham is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and allows an improper person to operate a vehicle. she is free on bail this morning. erin: an alert police officer helped track down the bank robbery minutes after the hold you have. 39-year-old john forser problemmed the bank. just three minutes after, a description was broadcasted an officer spotted him. they arrested him las a 7 eleven on maple street. sean: a former stoddard fire who admitted to starting two brush fires will spend two and a half years in prison. as part of the plea bargain, he will no longer be allowed to be associated with any fire department. erin: a man accused of stabbing a carjacking in nashua has been found not competent to stand trial. back in april, police say jonathan calvin

her car, and lead police on a chase that ended in a massive crash on the everett turnpike. a hillsbury said he could so long as he was found fit. sean: a cessna went off of the runway. good news is no one was hurt. are remembering the fire of their former chief. he was 67 years old. kane joined the fire department in 1971. he was promoted to chief in 1994 and held that position until his retirement in 2007. the department ordered flags at all manchester fire stations be lowered to half staff until kane is laid to rest. calling hours will be held friday afternoon.

a judge in canada has temporarily suspended the ban on new ownership of pitbulls in similar breeds. the ruling came yesterday, the same day the new law was set to take effect. the local spca took the city of montreal to court over the ban. the judge suspended parts of the law until tomorrow even when he evaluates the spca's request. sean: police across the country are seeing an increase in number of scary clown sightings. there are reports o heard. durham police they there were reports last night a person was walking around the u.n.h. campus dressed as a clown and using a megaphone. they checked it out, but did not find anything suspicious. berlin police have looked into reported clown sightings as well keene police. so far no threatening clowns have been found here in new hampshire. in massachusetts, a shelter in place order was issued at merrimack college last night after a staff member saw a

clown roaming around campus. one building was evacuated. police say they did not find any gun toting clowns. a college spokesperson say it was a false report. some students say the incident put them on edge. >> it is hard to believe at first. there are weird time out there. they like to mess with everyone. i think we all took it seriously. once they had the sirens and started and evacuated buildings. that's when it become pretty real pretty quickly. sean: again it was a false report. many people talking about the clown sightings on the facebook page. everybody is getting so worked about people walking around in clown costumes. get a grip. roy says i predict they will be banned from halloween. they write why is this a big deal. people walking around looking like clowns have been happening for

thoughts by leaving a comment on the facebook page. erin: classes resume after they were canceled. the bat problem was first noticed last week at an exclusive private school. officials sent out an e-mail saying a bat flew into one student's hair. the girl was not bitten. she did have to get rabies shots just in case. a company was called in to get rid of the bats. it says there were likely hundreds of them inside the school's walls. turning now to sports, the red sox are off when the american league division series begins in cleveland. the indians will host one and two. the series will shift back next sunday and game four in necessary. if the series goes five games, they will head back to cleveland for game five on the 12th. erin: the world's first bionic

temperatures drop back into the lower 50's. a few upper 40's. most areas in the low to mid 50's. most climbing into the low to mid 60's this afternoon in pittsburgh, colebrook, and probably upper 50's later on today. here's a look at it. the general trend of an overcast sky early gives way to parable sunshine. fairly light breeze except at the shoreline out of the northeast through the afternoon. lows tonight dropping backo valleys. low to mid 40's. tomorrow it is temperatures in the 60's statewide. looks like we could approach 70 in inland sections of southern new hampshire. it is low to mid 70's going forward for thursday and for friday. both of those days with sunshine if you are getting away for the holiday weekend should be good as well with a good deal of sunshine around and the temperatures in the low to mid 70's on friday. all eyes on hurricane matthew which was a category 4 hurricane. it is approaching right now. the eye wall right to the southern coast of

situation there. that's almost completely unstating the rain and wind. forecast maps continue to send this northward as a category 3 or 4 hurricane through the bahamas and then stays close to the eastern coast of florida on friday and near the outer banks of north carolina on saturday. that's by day five of the forecast and the track of the hurricane center. anything beyond day three or day four is a very where this is going to be. from there, most of the maps have the traveling just to the south of new england by the time we get later saturday night and into sunday. you can see the maps and the spread here. some of them are off shore. some of them running inland. a lot of that is going to depend on exactly where the front is in the midwest that gets here and how close it will be to the northeast. the slower the system moves, the better chance it has to be shoved out to sea. the quicker is moves. it has a better chance of running inland and giving us a quick band

rainfall late saturday and into sunday. there's a look at the extended forecast. again high and dry for the next several days. temperatures edging upward. we'll be in the low to mid 70's. we'll see an increase in clouds. all of this depends on exactly how quick the track is north as this system continues to lift its way northward. a lot of this is centered around sunday or sunday evening. a 12-18 hour band of rainfall would be our real to keep track of. you get beyond day three and day four, it is really difficult to tell the exact track. erin: yeah. i don't envy you. it is not an easy thing to do. kevin: we have to wait to watch it. sean: all matthew all the time. erin: still ahead. sean: forget the smell of apples. a new scent could be coming to your home. a candle that's meant to
