is underway and the governor of florida is warning residents to get out. marci gonzalez is live in the path of the storm in florida. marci: good afternoon. already a rainy day and we are starting to feel the severe impacts of the storm. hurricane matthew moving towards florida. the massive storm threatening severe flooding and destructive winds. potentially the most powerful hurricane to hit the u.s. in more than a decade. governor scott: evacuate, evacuate, evacuate. unfortunately this is going to kill people. marci: possibly the largest evacuation ever in florida with orders in place for 2.5 million people from here to the carolinas. >> i'm thinking just to get as far away from the flood zone as possible. marci: some gas stations running out of fuel. >> i spent almost an hour

evacuations. we can go to kevin skarupa in the weather center. kevin: this continues to strengthen at this hour. top winds at 140 miles an hour as it moves northwest, picking up speed as well. you have seen a motion to the northwest at 10-15 miles an hour. eventually it will be nearing the east central coastline of palm beach county as well as up through jupiter and eventually up through the land of damage will be from the system. over a foot of rain is possible on the carolinas. conditions will continue to worsen in florida later on this afternoon and evening with it continuing to parallel the coastline going forward. a lot on that as the storm track

while breest was convicted of the 1973 murder of susan randall, he has never admitted to the crime, and is hoping dna evidence could get him a new trial. wmur's ray brewer was at the hearing in concord. ray: robert breest is now 78 years old, having spent the majority of his life in jail. his lawyers told the court that based in part on those dna tests he deserves a new trial. since 1973, robert breest, seen here at previous hearing, has been incarced breest was convicted of the murder of 18-year-old susan randall, her body found in the merrimack river in concord. a dna test done in 2012 found that there was dna from two males under her fingernails. in appealing to the state supreme court, lawyers for brees say he's entitled to a new trial, something the state opposes. >> in none of the 5 dna tests from 2002 to 2012 was the defendant excluded as a source of the dna profile.

test results exonerate mr. breest. we say that they are favorable. ray: in the original trial the state also relied upon the testimony of david carita, who said that breest confessed to him while they were both locked up. carita has since died, but the defense says that testimony can now be disproven by another inmate. >> carita says breest confessed and kelleher was there. the authorities go to kelleher and say will you testify against breest and kelleher says that never happened. ray: however the state says , there's no evidence any officer made that trip and says the court should also take into account what it called breest's strange behavior, regarding showing up at the manchester police department for questioning. >> susan randall did disappear from manchester but her body was found out on interstate 93 in concord. ray: although it's not part of
