it is very cold out there. kevin: temperatures are down your the freezing mark in several areas. we have frosted risers for certain parts of the state in a freeze warning in place for others. we start off with temperatures in the 20's and 30's. we will enjoy the clearer skies and lighter wind the afternoon. temperatures will start up in the mid-20's to upper 30's. better to the afternoon. let's take a look at your tuesday morning ride. we're joined i doubt davidson. deb: everything is looking great throughout the granite state. 93 south, we see building volume. as you make your way through windham and down to salem, all the other highways in new hampshire are up to speed. if you are heading into

frontage road. you are bunched up again at that 95 connector. this report is brought to you by minuteman health. i am deb davidson. sean: the holiday weekend is over, but it was a very deadly one on new hampshire roads. at least half a dozen people died in crashes since friday, the most recent was last night on interstate 93 in manchester. wmur's ray brewer is live at the state police barracks in bedford this morning with the new ray: good morning. state police say the crash on the southbound side of interstate 93 involved a total of five vehicles and claimed the life of a woman from derry. with the end of the holiday weekend there was a lot of extra traffic on the highways last night. police say a pickup truck driven by a man from hudson didn't slow down in time for slow traffic near the split with 293 around 6:30 last night and hit several vehicles.

vehicles rolled several times and ended up off the highway. the driver of that car, 62-year-old cynthia perkins of derry died at the scene. no one else was seriously hurt in the crash, which does remain under investigation. so far, no charges have been filed. this marks at least five deadly crashes in new hampshire since friday, with six people losing their lives. reporting live in bedford, ray brewer wmur news 9. sean: thanks. the man charged in connection with the death of his 19-month-old step child is due in court today. 30-year-old leo witham was arrested on friday, two days after the child died at an apartment on ashworth avenue in hampton. witham faces several charges, including endangering the welfare of a child for purposely violating a duty to care and possession of a controlled drug. investigators have not released any details about the child's death.

a man over the summer is due in court this afternoon. 27-year-old ryan kirk was arrested on sunday after a three month investigation. a 24-year-old man was found dead in an apartment back in june, and police believe he came to new hampshire specifically to buy the fentanyl that ultimately killed him. investigators say it is often hard to bring charges in cases like this. >> they are difficult cases because you have to have a witness to the witnesses are tied up in the world of addiction and they don't necessarily want to be cooperative with the police. sean: the number of deadly drug overdoses is on pace to reach a record high this year. sean: a manchester man is accused of robbing the td bank on south main street in the queen city. police say 35-year-old brian chistoffels handed a note to a

signed a disaster declaration for north carlina in the wake of hurricane matthew. as the death toll from the storm in the u.s. reaches 21 with 11 of those in north carolina. possible record flooding is expected to persist through friday after matthew dropped a foot of rain and new evacuations were ordered yesterday. rescue crews saved hundreds of people, pulling many of them from roof tops. and thousands of people across the southeast are staying in shelters. in haiti, the new threat is from disease, especially cholera. as h people wait for aid to arrive especially in remote areas of the penninsula. the un estimates that nearly 1.5 million people in haiti need assistance and the humanitarian agency has made an emergency appeal for $120 million. cholera has already killed an estimated 10,000 people, since the earthquake in 2010. in brazil, doctors say many of the children born with small heads to mothers infected with zika are developing other serious health problems as well. researchers are now calling it

they have not said but the new problem really is. nestle is recalling some of its popular drumstick ice cream cones due to concerns over listeria. a factory in california that makes the treats showed signs of the illness. the recall includes the 16 count variety pack and the 24 count vanilla pack of drumsticks. so far, no one has reported actually getting sick. nearly a thousand pounds of lunchables are also being recalled because of a labeling error. combinations contain wheat and soy, which are not listed on the package. no one has gotten sick, but some customers have complained. rr auction is once again selling history. one of the highlights of this week's auction is a one page letter that albert einstein wrote to his son somewhere around 1929. in the letter, which is written in german einstein says he longs to see his son and invites him to visit for easter. he also added that he had solved what became known as the

state police say one woman was killed in the crash on 93 south, just before the 293 split monday evening. investigators say it appears a ford f-350 was driving south when it came upon slow moving holiday traffic. the 50-year-old driver was unable to stop in time, hitting several other vehicles. one of those vehicles rolled over, killing 62-year-old cynthia perkins of derry. no one else was seriously injured. been filed, but the crash remains under investigation. this makes at least five deadly crashes in new hampshire that claimed six lives since reporting in bedford, ray friday. brewer, wmur news 9. sean: we now know the name of a teen who was killed in a crash in tamworth over the weekend. state police say 17-year-old juliette bertrand-huntley of madison died when she went off the road while rounding a curve

investigators are still looking for any information that could help them figure out why she lost control. we now know the man who was killed while allegedly speeding away from police. state police say an officer tried to pull over 59-year-old kevin morong in stoddard sunday night. police say morong sped off on route 9, racing through hillsborough and into henniker, before losing control on route 202, hitting three other vehicles. morong was ejected and died at the scene. five high school students who lost their lives when they were hit by a wrong-way driver in vermont were remembered last night. ? sean: hundreds gathered to remember the lives cut too short. one of the victims was 15-year-old janie cozzi, a sophomore at kimball union academy in meriden. now the community is rallying behind the families. >> on sunday afternoon, my daughter bailey turned to my

sean: the driver of the truck that hit the teens remains in critical condition. authorities have issued an arrest warrant for him. he could face 5 counts of murder. prosecutors say after the crash, he stole a police cruiser and caused another series of collisions leaving several other people injured. his bail has been set at $1 million. turning now to the new hampshire drug crisis, more than 280 people have died from drug er the state medical examiner says fentanyl is blamed for 120 deaths. 71 are from fentanyl mixed with other drugs, only 5 deaths have involved heroin, and 11 are from a mix of heroin and fentanyl. 41 people have died from non-opiate or opioid drugs. right now there are 89 cases still pending toxicology results. new hampshire state police has a new director this morning. captain christopher wagner was

wagner has worked for state police for over 20 years, starting as a trooper in 1995. most recently he served at the commander of the support services bureau. wagner says he's honored to be named the new director >> they do tremendous work every day. a lot of the times they are heroes. they go about their work without fanfare. sean: wagner is from litchfield and graduated from u-mass lowell with a degree in criminal justice. there's a lot of things that can go wrong on your wedding day, but losing the mother of the groom in the woods isn't usually one of them. state police say the mother wandered off the property they were staying at near route 302 in landaff and got lost sunday. thankfully, after an hour and a half of searching, she was found safe and reunited with her family. the wedding was able to go on as

state police are included in some of the photos. for many people, it's back to work today after the columbus day holiday weekend. tourism officials say as many as 600,000 visitors were expected in new hampshire. many of those were leaf peepers who headed up north to take in the fall colors. columbus day is the third busiest travel weekend in the state. the fall season is expected to bring in about $98 million to the state's economy. an owl is recovering this morning after a passerby found it standing on the side of the road in western massachusetts. the driver was able to move it off the road and called police who came to pick it up. police say there may have been a problem with the owl's legs so they brought it to an area rehab center for treatment. coming up on daybreak, the presidential candidates are on the road again. where clinton and trump are today and the latest on fallout from sunday's debate. and a baseball legend says goodbye. we take a look at big papi's last game.
