back with donald trump for a rally at snhu arena in manchester. jennifer: the u.s. senate race here in new hampshire is one of the most hotly contested, and most watched, in the country. neither candidate is taking this race for granted. wmur's jennifer crompton joins us with a sense of how hard they're working. >> this is a grueling grassroots fight to the finish both , catching up with voters in some creative in this very tight contest. senator kelly ayotte greeting the lunchtime crowd, working the drive-thru at a burger king in nashua fast food and fast , friends among 50 stops in five days for the republican incumbent. governor maggie hassan shopping for votes at a market basket in concord the democratic , challenger sharing her rival's sentiment of how much she enjoys meeting, and listening, to voters.

largely flown under the radar. it did not get attention from national parties. it has been relatively quiet, at least in terms of the political theater. that does not make the issues any less important. social security, energy, important things they will be talking about tonight. term, while jim lawrence ran a couple of years ago in a primary race for the republicans, then won the primary this time around, but again, he is an underdog coming into this race, but they also have their core supporters, because on a friday night, donald trump in town, high-profile candidates coming into the state this weekend. they are gathered there for a while. we're standing by live.

fourth and final debate, and as you said, no other place to be on a friday night for these political supporters gathered outside the new hampshire institute of politics. compared to other races this week far fewer supporters out here but just as passionate. , supporters for democrat annie kuster want her back in congress for a third term saying the , daughter of a former lawmaker, and a world war two veteran stands up for veterans issues , and families. while supporters for challenger republican jim lawrence say the conservative father of eight, who served three terms as a state rep, should take over the seat. we asked these supporters what they want viewers to learn about their candidate tonight. >> that she is the most qualified candidate and that she cares most about her constituents. >> i think it is probably the most important. >> he is a good conservative. he is a good father.

do something more and a couple , of students came forward and really were sharing their feelings. >> every other year, the fifth and sixth graders here take a trip to boston. they walk the freedom trail, right the duck boats and even , get a tour of fenway park. they started raising money last year, through penny sales and the like, but the kids decided to take that and give to their $1500 school mate. >> boston is a trip that they look forward to pretty much since kindergarten and so for , them to give up their trip that's a lot for them but they , know what sawyer's going through and what his family is going through. >> it's kind of mixed feelings of happiness and sadness because i feel sad that his mother passed away, but i feel happy that's we're doing this for him. >> i feel really bad and i wish that i could help even more than i am. >> so there's no boston trip for these boys and girls. the money is going into an
