right now a major event is under way in the granite state. in the presidential race. and another is just a couple hours away. thank you for joining us, i'm josh mcelveen. jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. we are now just seven hours from the first votes being cast here in new hampshire. and right now the clinton campaign is getting some high profile help from president obama who is right now holding a rally inside the whittemore center on the campus of u.n.h. in durham. let's listen in. we got one more day, and we can choose the politics of blame and divisiveness and resentment. or you can choose the politics that says we're stronger together. right on wmur.com. also on our mobile app. and on our facebook page. josh: on the republican side of things, presidential nominee donald trump is holding his second to last campaign event before election day, right here in manchester at the snhu arena, that's where we'll find political reporter adam sexton who is standing by live. reporter: josh, this is the very same venue where in 2012 mitt romney held his final campaign event of that filling it to capacity here, 11,000 people and many more thousands on the outside, unable to get in. so he set a high bar for mr. trump who is looking to equal that crowd or perhaps surpass it as he wraps up one of the most unique and controversial campaigns for president in u.s. history. new hampshire of course holds special cache for trump as he often notes himself when he visits here, this is the state that delivered his first victory in the primary process.

established political order. one of the biggest question marks for tomorrow is how the independent undecided vote will break, whether they choose trmp or clinton. we're going to play on outsize role in the granite state in who controls the white house, congress, so on. the lines are wrapping around the block, already a big crowd building up for that rally that will start a in this election, there are a lot of motivated people on both side, perhaps more so than in previous elections. both side seem utterly convinced that they're going to win. we saw the democratic enthusiasm last night, we're going to see the republican enthusiasm here. jennifer: thank you, adam. hillary clinton is spreading what she calls a positive message on the campaign trail

inequality in the country. clinton was in pittsburgh today, that is an important area, and an important battle ground state. she also may stops in michigan and in north carolina. both presidential candidates are focusing these last efforts in a handful of swing states. as wmur's diane roberts explains now from washington, they're also sending a message to their bases as well. reporter: jen, it's no longer about swaying theec committed ones go to the polls. the campaigns are ramping up and the candidates are wrapping up, headed into tuesday, election day. in the battle ground state of virginia, voters lined up hours ahead of an ivanka trump rally. >> just out here to show support and participate in the process. reporter: as the focus shifts from trying to sway voters to

her and hope that everybody it gets out to vote. reporter: he's a political science professor at american university in the nation's capital. he says truly undecided voters just aren't going to vote. but candidates are using all sorts of star power to make sure their committed voters do. >> it's to motivate people, it's to be a validater, it's to say i care about this person, you should care about this person and go out to vote. reporter: and that's exactly how the candidates are spend >> let me just say, the choice in this election could not be clearer. it really is between division or unity. >> i'm asking to you dream big, because with your vote we are just one day away from the change you've been waiting for your entire life. reporter: polls suggest undecided voters make up a small portion of the electorate, about

wmur news 9. josh: of course the race for u.s. analyst is one of the most clothesly watched races not just here in new hampshire but nationwide, that's because the outcome could help determine the balance of power in the u.s. senate. incumbent republican kelly ayotte is facing a strong challenge from democratic governor hassan, and jean mackin is following their busy schedules today. she joins us now live. reporter: josh, as you can imagine, it is an all out statewide c candidates, just a few moments ago governor hassan introduced president obama at that u.n.h. event that we brought to you live. this is part of her final push, leading up to election day. she also had events earlier today in claremont, keene and peterborough where she thanked supporters at a hillary clinton campaign office, asking them to get out the message to support all democrats up and down the ticket. now kelly ayotte is on board a bus with her picture on it next

this was supposed to be a 24 stops in 24 hours campaign, but she's added a few stops, she's now up to 27. here is what both candidates had to say when we caught up with them. >> right now we're here in newport and we're going to be hitting the entire state and i just love talking to new hampshire voters, and it's really about them, answering their questions and just shaking those hands and getting that support. >> i ask all granite staters to get out there and vote tomorrow, it's so important to haveou i'd ask them to think about the fact that if we can come together and do what we've done the new hampshire down in washington, we can build a stronger future for all of our citizens. reporter: it is a tight u.s. senate race in the state of new hampshire. both candidates tell us there will be little or no sleep through tomorrow night. live in panthers, jean mackin, wmur news 9. jennifer: thank you. turning now to the race for governor and both candidates

to you with kristen carosa who is covering this race tonight. kristen? reporter: we're just hours away from election day, and the candidates for the state's corner office hard at work trying to connect as many people as possible and to win over the undecided. it was another long day on the campaign trail, we caught up with them after they spoke the nashua rotary club meeting this afternoon. republican chris sununu is serving his third toarm as executive councilor. he's waterville valley. his democratic opponent, has been a schowr since 2012. both candidates say they are the right choice for voters and are feeling confident. >> i'm looking for to the vote on tuesday, i think a lot of people in new hampshire are excited to get out and vote and i think we're all looking for to wednesday morning when we can move forward together as a state and country. >> we're in the final home stretch, we've been doing a lot of door to door talking to people one on one over the past

crash yesterday morning, police say they were at an intersection of 28 and 171 when they were hit by another car. jennifer: a man accused of selling a deadly dose of heroin to a 21-year-old is in court, was expected to plead guilty, but he withdrew his plea. watson is a former little league coach and was also involved in the boy scouts. a trial date has not been set yet. josh: we're going to begin with the candidates running for congress in our second district. jennifer: then, tonight we honor these police officers. mike: dry for now, but there is one chance of showers before we get to the en of the week. josh: at 5:30, city and town clerks across the state are getting ready for one of their busiest days of the year. what they're telling voters they need to know before getting to the polls.

rivers end camera. jennifer: peggy james joins us live with a look at your evening commute tonight. peggy: hi there, jen and josh. off to a busy start, just got day report of an accident on mast road in goffstown with injuries. we had another crash in candia on 101 west, still delays in the candia stretch due to that one. nothing unusual on 93 north, just is there spots through the work zones windham. 293 an earlier crash has cleared, so things are doing better through the mill yard. looking good on the hooksett tolls up to concord on 93. 101 west starting to fill in through bedford. route 101 in the keene sansy area will be closed tonight from main street from 11:00 until 5:00 a.m. ever right turnpike is stop and go as you make your way north through merrimack. and an earlier crash on the spaulding turnpike northbound is

heavy. from the wzid traffic network, i'm peggy james. jennifer: the manchester police department recognized officers for their achievements with an award ceremony this morning. among those recognized were officers ryan hardy and matt o'connor who received the police department's medal of valor. they were shot back in may by a suspect wanted in a robbery. state troopers and other officers including one from goffstown were also >> the officers responded professionally, reacted to the defendant even after they were fired upon self times, and treated them with dignity and respect even during the handcuffing process. jennifer: a manchester detective was also recognized for his involvement in the indictment of 90 people in a new york city gang running drugs and guns. others were awarded for saving

mike: a chilly start to this monday, but plenty of sunshine boosting temperatures close to the average for this time of year, and it turns nice and mild just in time for election day tomorrow. take a look at our time lapse photos in conway, the presidential range capped in snow, as winter has token hold -- taken hold over 6,000 feet up. in concord 52 degrees, after there is a look at the average, right on the norm for the high and a little below the average for the low. by the way, your sunset happened a while ago, now down to 4:30, thanks to the old clock change over the weekend. back to standard time. the chill is in the air, mid to upper 30's great north woods through the upper valley. on average lower 40's lakes region points south to concord, over to rochester and the coast. manchester a little milder, but

outside of the downtown area and you're walk into the low to mid 40's. overnight tonight seasonably cold, 20's to around 30 on a big recovery in temperatures tomorrow as a warm front moving through over the last 24 hours is starting to allow milder air to surge in here. that means temperatures are heading into the low, possibly mid 60's. but on average low 60's during the day tomorrow, as all this mild air rushes on in. now it would stay very mild on wednesday, too, the air mass will be quite war we have to track and you can see it on satellite back in the mississippi valley and central plains states. this is our next weather player that moves in during the day on wednesday. with some scattered showers in many parts of new hampshire. so for tonight, clear skies, lots of sun on the way for tomorrow. and then we get temperatures back into the low 60's at least 10 degrees above the average for had this time of year, moving ahead to wednesday, the clouds

a good part of the day will feature very light rain if any, but not much in the way of shower activity. as you're heading to the polls tomorrow morning, yes, bundle up, it will be chilly around 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 a.m. temperatures starting off on average in the lower to mid 20's north, on average in the 30's elsewhere. but as we advance through the happens to the old temperatures, we hit the low 60's in southern new hampshire, and north country, upper 50's to around 60. state, no excuse weather wise not to get out there, do your job and vote during the day tomorrow. as for high as cross the state, upper 50's and lower 60's. so here we go beyond this, for tonight we've got the clear skies, sunshine warmer for tomorrow, then we cool down with the showers scattered about on wednesday, bright, breezy seasonable for thursday and after a shower later on friday, temperatures begin to fall, it

josh: a lot of people feel anxious and nervous about election after a long and controversial campaign season. jennifer: as kim hutcher son explains, if you are one of these people, consider these tips and practices. reporter: republicans and democrats are united about at least one thing, more than half of them say the 2016 election is a source of stress. that's according to the american psychological association. if you are experiencing election related anxiety, here are some things you can do. read enough to stay informed, but don't binge on political news. take some time for activities that will recharge you.

stick with healthy habits. difficult as it may seem, try not to worry about the outcome of the vote. instead, take action on issues that matter to you. while it's good to have meaningful respectful discussions about political ideas, avoid talking about the election if there's a chance it will lead to conflict. if an argument arises, know how and when to stop yourself. remember, stress and anxiety are not productive, they have negative health effects and won't change the outcome of t says voting itself can make you feel you're taking a pro-active step, and that helps you cope with uncertainty. josh: all right. back now to our final pitches where the candidates get to speak one last time before the polls open. here's carol shea porter, democratic candidate in the first congressional district. >> i'm carol shea-porter. if i'm fortunate enough to be elected to congress again, i plan to go down and do exactly what i did in washington before

campaigns are sprinting to the finish, with a flurry of final events, including some high profile ones right here in the granite state. meanwhile, candidates for new hampshire races are also busy trying to get last minute support. welcome back, i'm josh mcelveen. jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. candidates in the first and second congressional races are shaking as many hands as they can. mike cronin live from the second c.d. in nashua tonight with more. reporter: well, it's been a right here in the second congressional district as well as those in the first c.d. are ready for tomorrow. in the first c.d., incumbent republican frank guinta is asking voters to send him back to washington where he says he'll be an invoice. democrat carol shea-porter says she has the background to retake the seat that she's held before, while incandidate sean o'connor says he's the right person to work with both parties. in the second congressional

reporter: it's been a long contentious and emotional trip to the voting booth in new hampshire. a huge turnout is expected for tomorrow's election, and state and local officials have been working to make sure everything is orderly and safe. >> we'll have larger than normal crowds, so that will add to some confusion, a little chaos maybe, but there's no specific threats in new hampshire, but obviously this is an important time for our country. so we have to be aware of any threats that reporter: new hampshire homeland security director perry plumber says the emergency operations center in concord will be operating from the time the polls open until they close tomorrow. they expect that everything will run smoothly, and have been working with the secretary of state's office to avoid any cyber or internet related issues. >> our system is not set up so could it be hacked very easily. we have paper ballots, so we're very fortunate here. we don't think that there will

as for temperatures right now, they are starting to drop of course, the sundown at 4:30 this afternoon and temperatures already responding to the lack of sun. we're back into the 30's to very low 40's in many spots, from the merrimack valley and coast back into the monadnock region, many spots below 40. same story around the lake sunapee zone. upper 30's to lower to mid 40's. if you're along the lake shore you are quite mild, due to the fact that the water temperatures are chilly but not nearly as cold as they will get in the part of the great north woods and northern parts of the white mountains, although franconia notch at 44. overnight tonight we do drop below freezing everywhere except right at the coast, may hang right around 31 or 32 by 6:00 in the morning. then we're looking at a nice recovery in temperatures quickly in the afternoon. why will that happen? a storm well off shore not working back in towards new hampshire. high pressure nosing in means clear sailing for tonight and

marches on in for mid-week. in terms of shower chances, give it about 80% shot. but that will just be in the form of a scattering of showers for wednesday and early wednesday evening. and then once all of this moves on through, notice the dry real estate back to the west, that takes over for the rest of this week, thursday and on into friday. right now it's clear, it will stay that way through a good part of the night, be frost everywhere tomorrow morning as we drop at or below freezing. sunny skies for election day low 60's. on wednesday, that's when the front moves on in with scattered showers. notice future cast, not painting a big wet scenario here in new hampshire, just a scattering of showers, and just cold enough by late day for a few flakes to mix in across the white mountains. highs tomorrow, up into the upper 50's to lower 60's. average high this time of year is 52 degrees. we'll be much closer to the average as we go through the rest of this week.
