away from downtown gainesville. but it's all moving on board, and that's the case for much of central florida. and ocala, arrival between 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. mounted door that, 9:00, 9:30. orlando, i-4 corridor, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and south, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and we'll hone in and tell you what time the storms will be in. and then we trend better. temperatures are currently on the warmer side. we're call tomorrow through the weekend. we'll talk about that in the extended forecast. >> john: people across the southeast, including here in floarksd are assessing the damage. >> amy: a nasty scene in the

the strong line of storms . >> reporter: they're going door to door to try to find anyone that's been trapped in the rubble. three people have been killed and several others injured in louisiana and mississippi. last night severe's weather ripped through the gulf coast. three people killed and dozens more injured and damage that spans several states along the gulf coast. this is the destruction left behind after tornadoes and severe weather struck southern louisiana, mississippi, and northern florida. several people are still missing after a tornado ripped threur three apartment buildings in pensacola. the same storm system killed two people in louisiana and one person in mississippi. the tornado ripped into the sugar hill mobile home park in louisiana. >> we had. 31 people transported to different medical facilities in

crashes to tell you about and an update. apopka vineland, partially blocked at torre pines terrace. and a crash at colonial and goldenrod. we're seeing significant delays on colonial and goldenrod. no word of road blockage but be aware if you are in the area this morning. back out in brevard, we have a crash i95 northbound near fiske boulevard. we're seeing significant delays in that area as well. so definitely take your time this morning no matter where you are located. taking a look at drive times. i-4 westbound, slowing, lake mary to colonial, 24 minutes. the attractions to downtown, 12 minutes. on the 408, that's pretty much up to speed. back to you. >> john: breaking news this morning. a shooting investigation is0 under way in daytona beach. >> amy: the beganman who be out00

>> vir jana arteaga pointed at the officers. she was taken to the altamonte springs police department for questioning. >> at this point, police say that arteaga is cooperating. howard was a student at seminole state college. >> john: an orlando police officer is recovering after being injured in a crash. >> amy: it happened around 1o clock. they cut off the officer and crashed into her cruiser. the officer had the right-of-way. the officer, a passenger, and the driver had to go to the hospitalling but they are all expected to be okay. >> john: spacex is attempting a launch and landing before. it's not officially been completed before. >> amy: they did it on land and not on the water. they will try to land on a floating barge in the atlantic. the last time the rocket fell over and exploded. it'll carry a european

>> reporter: too many. the policy would have -- good morning. the policy would have set up equal guide lines for the district. 100 people spoke out. most were in favor of just leaving things the way they are. >> the problem is that these policies are starting to get adopted, it's as said earlier, a slippery slope. when we get into a slippery slope, i believe that when it leads to giving the opposite sex a chance to be in the locker rooms, it would negative live affect tens of thousands of students and violate their privacy and purity. >> reporter: some spoke up for the changes, urging people to do more to protect the lgbt community.

here sits anr thinks, take out the hate. and there's a reason we need to protect the students. more importantly than anything, their lives matter. >> reporter: even though this proposal is dead, florida today is reporting that the school board plans to hold a public workshop on lgbt issues later down the road. it 7:15. let's check in with jayme king. >> jayme: good morning. we have changes for you. and we have the latest line of strong to severe thunderstorm activity piling on shore. it looks like conditions pretty much going down hill as we get towards midand late morning for a lot of you in the orlando metro, and soons to the west of orlando metro. the tornado watch is good until 10:00 a.m. this morning, this from the storm prediction center of norman, oklahoma. they weigh in every day in regards to the haves and have nots, and we're having it all

in particular, the florida/georgia border has been a very active scene. and south, towards down ellen, southwestern marion county, we're loading up and boosting the atmospheric energy here. that's producing quite a bit of heavy rainfall, strong damaging winds. within any of the cluster as they move on shore. prolific cloud to ground lightning. emphasis on damaging straight-line winds or isolated tornado wrap-up, and hence the tornado watch. and, of course, the lightning we're notorious for in the sunshine state. in deltona, volusia county, south of that, we may find a couple of straggler showers. lighter rains are trying to get established in sumter. it increases exponentially so to the west. the line is coming in. we're starting to see more broken segment. it's not solid from north to

and that jibes well with the modeling at this time. i will show you the model forecast and how this comes on in. you see it has more of a ragged appearance to it. low pressure moving well away from the state. that's the saving grace for us here in central florida, not necessarily the case for far northern florida and the eastern section of georgia, as this stuff races on through. this is the best information i have at the current time. we'll update and refine as need be. for right now, it looks like the most concentrated appreciable rains, getting into oarchghts by 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. ocala. and orlando, 10:00 a.m. to solid 12:00 p.m. time frame. and coastal brevard, cape canaveral, satellite beach, melbourne, palm bay. it'll sweep through in pretty quick fashion. we'll adjust as need be. right now, i'm going with the

we have a tendency down south, where we all live. do know that the threat of strong to severe weather, not trying to scare you, just trying to inform you, the threat of strong to severe weather is moving into the area now. you can see how it's all clustered up. taking a segmented look as it moves in. and it's losing its punch that it had, and moving into the west side of the state. weakening at this time, probably not, but offering up clusters of rather intense storm action. southwestern marion. gainesville is surprisingly quite quiet right now. lighter rains in leesburg, and eustis, and out to the west. nothing as of yet from volusia county or the orlando metro. quickly, i want to address the arrival times of the most concentrated or intense weather in the particular neighborhood.

mount dora, lake county. and 9:00 to 9:30. and in the range of 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in cocoa beach. and the space coast, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the 7 day forecast, trending from wetter to a whole lot better. the weekend, fantastic, average sunshine and -- ample sunshine and cool breezes. >> john: people in the southeast including north florida are going to be assessing damage. >> amy: in pensacola there were strong lines of storms. and fox 35's jackie orozco has been tracking the latest. >> reporter: three people have been killed in mississippi and louisiana. severe weather ripped through the gulf coast. officials are assessing the damage. the video in pensacola, a confirmed tornado touched down.

apartment building in in the city, damaged. and search and rescue braitions are under way. and the same storm system is blamed on at least three deaths in louisiana and mississippi. this is video in los louisiana. two people were killed and 30 others injured after severe weather rolled through the region. at least 100 mobile homes. damagerred after a tornado slammed into the mobile home work in louisiana. it's not known how many were home when the severe weather hit. several agencies immediately responded and search and rescue operations are under way. schools canceled classes ahead of the storm to avoid having busses on the road. governors in louisiana and mississippi declared states of the emergency. in the studio, jackie orozco, fox 35 news. >> amy: frightening to look at that.

>> john: deviling at this -- developing at this hour, a woman from altamonte springs faces a judge accused of killing her own son. >> amy: they said she shot and killed her own son. >> reporter: the police say that the mother's name is virginia arteaga. she spent the night here at the jail charged with premeditated murder. officials worked the crime scene at the home that arteaga shared with her son into tuesday evening. they got a call late morning from someone who knew blake howard and was concerned he might be in trouble. >> we entered the residence and arteaga confronted one of the officers with a handgun in hand. >> reporter: they searched the house and found howard dead. >> we learned many things, we

>> reporter: we learned so much more overnight. the fbi said we want to get into one accuse terrorist's phone. but that's not the case. they've been trying to do this before. >> we heard overnight there are at least a dozen other phones and district attorneys said they have 157 other phones that they want to look at. you have to remember, the eyes in the form of camera, and ears, and they track you everywhere you have go. we have to watch to make sure the floodgates don't open. >> reporter: it sounds like if they do, in fact, decide to hack into one phone, it could open the floodgate, couldn't it? >> it's very possible this could open the floodgates. we have seen this argument, this issue, is not just over this one phone. it's relating to many, many other phones. it could relate to your phone at home. >> reporter: what is the precedent here.

to work in cases like this? >> the fbi is using a 227-year-old statute to justify its case. there is no other case where the government has forced a u.s. company to program for it. that's essentially what it's asking the apple engineers to do. to write code to hack its own cellphone. no precedent. >> reporter: it seems to me that apple is going targeted because -- being targeted because it's american. say it's a cellphone company out of china, the u.s. has no precedent to say, we're going to make you build code to crack your own security system. don't you think it's an apple, american company issue? >> it is. imagine if the chinese government were asking apple or

thank you for coming in. >> jayme: accuweather forecast update. a live look at downtown. it's been a morning of clouds and freshening breeze. i do want to reiterate that a tornado watch continues until 10:00 a.m. a tornado watch for 10:00 a.m. for alachua, marion, and sumter county within the confines of the fox 35 viewing area. i am watching a couple areas of concern right now. what happened though, when kristin was on the forecast at 4:30, the line was more stout looking from north to south. now we're seeing segments. duval, jackson county, and marion, and another one loading up around tampa. watch the break there. of no surprise, the main area of low pressure, we call the parent low or the main low, driving the

area, is moving and advanced to the the north. we separate ourselves, and with diminish the threat. but it's nothing to overlook. a minute to wildwood. and ocala, this will come in about 24 minutes. and winding up in the orange springs area 51 minutes. the cluster is moving at a rapid pace of 45 miles per hour. now one thing we're watching now is this is the velocity scan. when we start to pair these green colors with red colors, you can see how the two areas are getting tighter and closer here. that's kind of weird looking there, but you can see in the last frame that how tightly this is coming together now. we call that gate to gate. reds and greens reaching. and the fine line to the west and the east of the area. something may be trying to spin up there.

once we get through this stormy weather, then it'll be delightful for the weekend. here's our weather baby for the day. >> gina: happy wednesday. here's a live look at i-4 west of the 434. dot is moving their camera around. a lot of congestion in the area. it appeared that we had an`` earlier, minor crash.`` but that seems to be from a lot of road construction. day time work is being done. give yourself extra time if you need to take i-4. alafaya trail is partially blocked at waterford lake parkway. we're seeing significant delays in both directions there. definitely be aware of that if you are traveling through the area. taking a look at drive times. everything is looking pretty slow on i-4.

they fixed him up and sent him back out there. he is now okay and back out in the wild. >> amy: a gainesville police officer who went viral is giving back to some of the neighborhood kids, the same ones. >> john: officer white was called back in january after neighbors submitted a noise complaint about the kids. instead of sending them home, he told them to just keep it down a bit guys been it showed that these kids needed a safe place to play. he pulled strings and they now have a brand new court built behind their house. all materials donated. andothen this guy shows up. anthony bucket blakes showed up with an important message. >> i hope they walk away with the idea that they get the opportunity to help somebody one day and hopefully they see that someone looked out for them.
