9:02 am
does not include us, at least at this point. i'm only looking for isolated rain chances for saturday, sunday percent chance at best. bottom line, breezy to locally windy by mid week and awfully warm. highs both days making a run at the mid-80s. >> that's your forecast. >> the i-4 ultimate project is enter agnew phase, expected to impact a lot of drivers. >> those heading out the door might want to look for an alternative route. work is expected to take more than a year. in other words, you'll have to have an alternate route for a while. she's at orlando near garland with more on the changes you'll need to know about. hey, jackie. >> good morning to you. knarland avenue is very popular among drivers. more than 8,000 cars travel here in this area daily, but they'll have to get used to the new change for more than a year. >> more changes for downtown commuters starting today, crews have shut down garland avenue. >> the closures necessary for crews to get in here and install drainage, relocate utilities, and then realign garland avenue,
9:03 am
basically push it a little bit to the east so that we have room to widen i-4. >> it's all part of the i-4 ultimate project. this will also create a new eastbound i-4 entrance ramp from colonial drive. this area in particular will have a lot of work going on because the city has a project of their own. so you can expect a lot of cambrics workers, closed streets, and signs you need to watch out for in the months ahead. >> there's a lot of work going on in the downtown area and it's important for folks to take a little extra time, take a look at what's planned for construction. >> and again, this closure behind me on garland avenue will remain closed for 14 months. reporting here in downtown orlando, jackie, fox 35 news. >> thank you. 2016, marco rubio will be in seminole county today. >> he's trying to build support ahead of the florida primary coming up next week. rubio will be holding hat that rally at 6:45 tonight. the senator says he must win next tuesday's primary in order to have any chance at that
9:04 am
nomination. and it appears it might happen in a new poll conducted in florida. rubio was five points behind the frontrun were donald trump. trump now has 35 percent support. rubio is at 30. meanwhile, fox 35 got a chance to talk with rubio over the weekend about his campaign as they reached out to us. >> i'm the only one at this point that has any chance of beating him in florida. if donald trump wins florida, it's gonna be hard to stop him. i want to be the nominee for our party. in january, i'll either by the the president of the united states or a private citizen here in florida. rubio coming off sunday's win. right now, donald trump has 384 delegates. ted cruz closing in. he's now at 300. marco rubio at 151 and john kasich at 37.
9:05 am
delegates in order to secure the nomination. >> meanwhile on the democratic side, bernie sanders is fighting to stay in the race. >> ryan has more on what he's doing. yeah, good morning. right now, bernie sanders has weeks ago. he was getting written off, but last night, he went after hillary clinton in the k bait. sanders and clinton took on each other in the debate which was held in flint, michigan. there were a number of times when they interrupted each other. this was probably the most memorable one from last night. >> if you are talking about the wall street bail out where some of your friends destroyed this economy. >> you know. >> excuse me. i'm talking. >> if you're gonna talk, tell the whole story. >> that was one of the feisty exchanges they had last night. the candidates were able to agree on one thing, that was the water crisis in flint.
9:06 am
for failing to intervene sooner when it discovered the residents drinking led painted water. both candidates voted for the governor to be pushed. >> the governor should resign or be recalled. >> what is absolutely incredible to me is that water rates have soared in flint. you are paying three times more for poisoned water than i'm paying in burlington, vermont, for clean water. >> now, that michigan governor is rick sniefrd. he defended himself during the debate. this was the tweet he put out, saying i'm taking responsibility as well for the way the system says we should. my trackser getting things done and i want to get this done. that was his tweet right afterwards. >> thank you, ryan. in volusia a man died after being hit by a car in daytona beach. >> investigators trying to figure out exactly what happened. this took place around 7:00 last night at the intersection of north nova road in brentwood drive. investigators say the man was
9:07 am
the victim's name is not being released at this time. witnesses say that they often see people crossing the road, even though there's no cross walk. the driver of the suv did stop and is now cooperating with the investigation. no word on if that person will be facing any charges. >> new this morning, the u.s. coast guard is suspending the search for a texas man who fell off of a cruz ship near key largo. the 46 -year-old man fell off at 100 feet from the 10th deck of the royal jibian navigator of the seas it. happened late on friday. a helicopter and a plane were used in that search. the coast guard covered about 2500 square nautical miles. the nation coming together this morning, paying tribute to former first lady nancy reagan. >> mrs. reagan died yesterday from congestive heart failure. she was 94. >> good morning. we have been remembering nancy reagan all morning long here on "good day orlando." and it sure didn't take people very long to pay theirerments online.
9:08 am
and it is very clear how influential nancy reagan really was. during her time as first lady, nancy reagan championed the national just say no anti-drug campaign and was very passioned about stem cell research. she also promoted better treatment of our veterans. she met her husband, the late president ronald reagan while working as an actress in hollywood. ronald reagan was also working as an actor at the time. many americans are now remembering her as a great first lady, including florida senator marco rubio, who was credited for saving nancy reagan when she fell back in 2008. >> 2011, i was invited to speak at the reagan library. we had a chance to meet her, have dinner with her. it was an extraordinary experience. >> florida governor rick scott shared his shots about nancy reagan, saying, throughout her life, nancy's incredible commitment to her country and her family did not falter. and she will continue to inspire
9:09 am
all of us to live bravely and selflessly. nancy reagan made a monumental impact on our nation and i know her legacy will live on, just like her husband's legacy has. well, nancy reagan's funeral arrangements have not been finalized just yet, but we do know she's going to be buried right next to her late husband at his presidential library in california. john, amy, over to you. >> thanks, lydia. still to come, it was a close call for a little boy at a local baseball game. >> a little too close. how one guy's quick thinking helped save the day. these pictures are unbelievable, coming up. also, still to come, doctors now yawsing lasers to turn back the hands of time. we'll talk with a local woman who got this new procedure and check out how you can do it, too, c some people don't like to
9:10 am
9:15 am
set goal! he shoots, he scores! >> unbelievable. >> the crowd went crazy. >> two goals just seconds apart in the last minute of the game. as a matter of fact, that last dole was the last person to kick the ball. the lines lions were behind salt lake for most of the game, but in the end, kyle scored a goal, followed seconds later by winter. he tied it up. final score, 2 -2. it did feel like a win even though it's a tie. >> and baseball fan saved the day for a little boy from a ringer to the head. this is crazy. a pittsburgh pirates photographer sent out this tweet after saturday's spring training game. it was between the braves and the pirates in kissimmee. you can see two frames side by side. it's a little difficult to see on this picture. this guy is putting his hand up and saving the little boy
9:16 am
sitting next to him from getting smacked in the face by this flying baseball bat. the bat came within inches of his face. luckily, he was able to save the day and block it. the little boy's on the phone, holding with both hands so he can't react because he doesn't think to drop the phone and protect himself. so that bat literally would have hit him square in the face, knocked his teeth. >> and @ a baseball game, you see it all the time. >> they're joining us tomorrow, >> yeah. thanks so much. here's jayme king. he has your accuweather forecast. great weather for spring training taking place. no doubt. anything you want to do outdoors, i just want to reiterate, we've been talking about it all morning long. put on your skin protection, your sun block. it'll do you good, that angle changing literally by the day as
9:17 am

9:18 am
i've seen repeated gusts when it was cranking. it is blowing pretty good. that will be the theme again for mid week as we trend breezy to windy, but keeping again lots of sunshine, very pleasant temperatures, no rain chance. accuweather visit orlando cam high atop the hyatt regency. you see a look at what's going on. lots and lots of progress down there toward i drive as we are forever growing around here to comedy the masses as they enjoy our weather and theme parks, for sure. uv theme index around an eight. reiterate, cover your skin, protect yourself and due your due diligence especially out at the beaches and golf scene today. by 3:00, 77. we are sunny, nice next seven days. showing us pleasant weather overall with temperatures slowing begin the push into the mid-80s. windy, breezy by mid week. after that, clouds enhance some by friday, sad, sunday as a front approaches from the west. not a big deal. we'll call it 20 %, at least as of right now.
9:19 am
9:20 am
one day you're enjoying rides, events, and up-close animal encounters at seaworld. the next, you're having fun at aquatica. for a limited time, you can buy a seaworld annual pass and get a year of aquatica for free. kick your feet up at aquatica's sandy beaches, and plunge down ihu's breakaway falls. then experience the ultimate thrill with mako, orlando's tallest, longest, fastest coaster, surfacing at seaworld this summer. get an annual pass, and play all year at both parks. two great parks, one great deal. i'm like a boxer in a ring. a small boxer. you don't expect much... and then, wham! i hit 'em with huge creamy goodness! alright round two! bring it, girlfriend! rich, creamy, 100% natural cheese. mini babybel.
9:22 am
there's your live look downtown. traffic heading southbound or westbound? >> either one's fine with me. they're both technically correct. look how crowded it is, though. >> all that new stuff going on. >> thanks. on the health watch, it used to be if you wanted to tap into the fountain of youth, you had to go undered the knife and hide out until your face was healed. now there's a new face lift option with excellent results and minimum downtown. it's called a laser lift. several people have taken advantage of this procedure here locally, including 53 -year-old kimberley mc donald. there's a before and after picture of kimberley and she's even more beautiful in person. kimberley and the doctor who did her procedure are here with us this morning to talk more about it. great to see you. congratulations on your recent wedding and doc, thanks for being here. >> kimberley, tell me how you came to find out about this procedure. >> i googled it. i did research. i noticed a little sagging and i
9:23 am
camera so i thought, i'll think of something but i didn't want to go under the knife. so i googled it. i found the center. and i actually saw someone who had done it and she had said something that was like i don't want to look like i'm 20, like i'm 30. i want to look my age, but adjust better me. so i was like, that's me. so i felt it out online, still not sure. and they contacted me. i looked it over, made the appointment and the best thing i've ever done. >> what's the biggest difference you've noticed with yourself? >> i've noticed the tying here already. i noticed that quickly. i happened people at work say what did you do? your face looks much smoother. oh, yeah. a new cream. >> right. >> well now everybody knows. >> sorry, kimberley. that's okay. >> it's totally worth it. let's talk a little about the procedure. we talk about it being noninvasive. how long does it take?
9:24 am
what exactly are you doing to the skin? >> instead of doing a traditional incision, i go in with this laser it's a very small unit, about the size of the end of a ball point pen. i make three tiny knicks in the skin, one underneath the chin and underneath each ear and i deliver the laser energy. so instead of tying the skin underneath with sutures, i use heat energy to do it. it takes about half an hour to do in the office and you can drive yourself home after you have it done. >> is it just a one time only procedure or do you have to do multiple visits?. >> no, no, it's a one time only procedure. i would expect you to be able to reverse the clock at least five years after this, maybe closer to probably eight. >> so let's talk cost. if you wanted to do a traditional face lift versus the laser lift, what kind of differential are we talking about? >> this is about a third of the cost, about $4,000 to do it.
9:25 am
>> okay. >> and when you talk about what kind of results you're going to see, you said the results will last about five years. what will we see, what difference will we notice? >> this is designed for when you have the candidates that i think are fantastic candidates. if you're in your 40s or 50s and start to see the first little sign of aging in terms of jowls or maybe a little fullness here underneath your chin, this is what this is made for. it's a really great modality, to define the jaw line. >> now, if you were to do a face lift, would thatby permanent or even in a face lift would you have to go back for a touchup? >> even in a surgical face lift, you'll probably still have to have some kind of maintenance along with it. >> but five years, that's pretty good. >> yeah. we think it's going to last even longer than that. it's a new technology. we're still evaluating the longevity of the procedure, but i feel saying we'll probably get at least five years after this, maybe longr. >> and kimberley, you would
9:26 am
definitely recommend it? >> absolutely. >> you would do it again in a heartbeat. >> i would. >> how can our viewers at home get more information? >> go to our website at the basset center and we have all sorts of videos and we'll tell you what the preand post off experience is on there. and please give us a call. i'll be heap to give you a conversation and let you know how this can help. >> we love to see the before and after picture. it does make a difference. thank you so much for coming and telling us more about it. we appreciate your time this morning. 9:26. let's find out how things -- right to john. still to come, your spring break travel plans are getting a little easier. more on the new app that's making check in in a breeze. plus, flaps taking over the runway. we're checking out great alternatives to those high heels
9:27 am
9:30 am
and we're back. it is now 9:29 on this monday morning. so glad you're here. >> welcome to the show. here are the stories we're covering for you this morning. >> while you were sleeping, construction crews very busy get to work. the i-4 ultimate project enter agnew phase and expected to impact a lot of drivers, heading out the door this morning will have to look for an alternate route as work is expected to take more than a year. crews are working on garland avenue right between colonial and mark. officials say the closure is necessary. they will also create a new eastbound i-4 entrance ramp from colonial drive and realign darland avenue which will make room to widethen interstate. crews expect that construction to last 14 months so that's a long time. if you're looking for almightiative routes, you can find them on our website. just go to fox 45 orlando.com. >> also, the search is on for two suspects who shot at a home in east orlando.
9:31 am
night. deputies say one compact knocked on the door of a home and said that he was looking for a man who lived at that address. when the suspect learned the map was not at home a second suspect standing nearby pulled out a gun and fired several shots towards the garage. both suspects ran away. nobody was injured. >> a man accused of robbing the bank and leaving the money south side the bank is expected to be in court this morning. this guy was arrested yesterday. they say he robbed a wells fargo on sea breeze boulevard on saturday morning and then left the bag full of money in the bushes right outside. he's now in jail on $20,000 in bond. >> time now for this morning's business headlines and lauren joins us with more. let's start with the market names names. >> we're up three weeks in a row and finally, i think this is a good thing. we have oil going up and something going down.
9:32 am
said the other, at least for now. >> and gas prices are going up. that's the oil driving tup. is there a trend, how long, how high, anything? >> there's usually aton-day lag. that's what the experts will say. to give you an compact formula, for every $10 increase in the price of crude oil, gas prices move by a quarter, more or less. up.16 in the past week. the national average is higher, also about $0.06, not $0.16. you guys are paying more down there, and you probablied it. >> yeah, it's significant. let's talk about the mac computers getting hit with the ransom we're. we had this happen and they've your phone number and they're talking to you on the phone as you see them taking over your computer. it's the very thing that really i've gone through. it's a mess when they do this. >> this is on your pc, john? >> yeah, it was about a year ago, i guess.
9:33 am
>> and did you have to fork over any money. >> the good news is no, because we had done a story. one of our neighbors got hit with it and they had to give out a credit card and their computer was completely locked down. i unplugged mine immediately and so we stopped it, but i still had to get it redone. >> this is unbelievable. i cannot believe it happened to you. it does happen and it usually happens on pc. now macs are being attacked by ransom wear. hackers get in, make your laptop a brick and if you want access money. in this instance, it's $400 in digital currencies. they get their money, you get your files back. if you downloaded a bit torrent software called and saturday, you need to listen up now. you could be attacked. two things to do, number one, upgrade, download the latest
9:34 am
and number two, palo alto blogs, very detailed. everything you need to do to check yourself. >> and finally, a new service that checks you in for your flight automatically. how does this work for us? >> airline checksin.com. it's free. you register. put in your seat preference. so when your flight becomes zabel for check in, the incident that happens, you're probably sleeping, they'll check in for you, you might actually get the seat that you want. >> i like that. >> always good to see you. catch lauren on fb and a.m., the fox business network at 5:00 a.m. if you're not sure where to find it, check out fox business.com channel finder and it will guide you from there. here's jayme king with your accuweather forecast. at least the weekend worked out in our favor. we had ample sunshine and very pleasant temperatures. i'll do you better today, a
9:35 am
cash in a bit closer 80 degrees. as we wrap up our monday at 5:00. here we go, next system, waiting in the wings out to the west. the western fringe is growing more aggressive. as this was beginning to creep on shore, you can see it here, a severe thunderstorm warning issued for the city of los angeles. this is a very dynamic, potent system creeping off the pacific approaching our region from the west, very late this weekend to next weekend. high pressure is so stinking strong right now, the ramifications, maybe a slight up tick in clouds currying that time and a rain chance a whopping 20 %. that's all. just ice lilted showers early today. and temperatures looking good with 60s and 70s. zero chance of rain today. ample sunshine in place. and for the next seven days, look good. i mentioned a very slim, slight
9:36 am
20 %, 1 thing remains constant, chance. overnights becoming rather bottomy. through the mid-60s by the end of the forecast cycle you see it there on the 7 -day. that is your forecast. over to you, amy. >> thanks, jayme. high heels. it used to be high fashion, but things are starting to change a little bit. many designers have sent models down the runway lately in milan and flats and melanie joining nous with great option.
9:37 am
and that's what fashion's all about. you have to go out of your comfort zone. >> the oxford trend is something that comes back every seen. however, we see a lot of this in spring. it's not a typical oxford. this is for your more fashion forward person. and then everything has a little wedge at the bottom .
9:38 am
>> yeah, they're not bad. navy is a huge trend for spring season, as well as sway, kind of that in between before we get to summer. >> i like these better. >> loving these, too. >> these are more comfortable. again, a little slip on loofer with the ox fwrd feel to it, but these are great slip on. these are also from czarra and $50. >> i love those. >> all right. so let's move on. our next great trend here is all last year, you saw white sneakers. >> i remember. >> i have tons of sneakers you're working all day and out running around, especially if you have kids, sneakers are so easy.
