brad/wx wall weather adlib: well, there is no doubt that winter weather is back! it will be getting colder and colder as we head through the weekend too! tonight will be clear to partly cloudy with a very cold wind blowing in from the northwest at around 20 mph early and dropping to 10 mph late. the temperatures will drop into the single digits while the winds chills will go into the -0s, but it will only get colder in the days to come! saturday will be cold, dry and breezy day with highs in the single digits north and teens south. there will be a good chance for some light snow to come through

hd starts now. we are iowa" stephanie/2shot good evening, i'm stephanie angleson. jack/2shot and i'm jack miller. months now county woman..... was found shot dead in her home. are stll no charges filed. but that doesn't one's accused. shirley carter who died. and now, her husband, bill, has actually filed a wrongful death civil lawsuit against the couple's son, jason, naming him the killer. stephanie: tonight, family and friends are still searching for justice. they held a rally outside of the marion county courthouse, in hopes of bringing criminal charges. stephanie: local five's jacob peklo has more from knoxville in tonight's big story. jacob peklo, reporting: "more than 100 people packed out this courtyard on friday, with a simple request for justice. it's a moment they say has taken far too long to happen." cathie carter, sister- in-law: "we're all upset about it because there should be something done. there needs to be justice in shirley's case."

lining up at 3 o'clock friday afternoon, to bring shirley carter's name back to the forefront. ron danks, attorney: "tells me there's a lot of people who thought the world of shirley and think the world of bill." cathie carter, sister- in-law: "the best thing about her was her kindness, her empathy towards other people, people in poor health, people who were down and out." the last six-plus months have been a time of turmoil for everyone in this small community. after shirley's death, the carter family made another difficult decision, directing criminal accusations toward her youngest son, jason. kris mcvicker, shirley's niece: "he was forced to file the wrongful death lawsuit, and we want to bring attention to this and hopefully bring justice to what's happened." after a few brief comments from organizers, family, friends and neighbors joined hands together for a moment of prayer. matt russell, neighbor: "could happen to anyone. that's the whole point of justice is because everyone is protected by the law." the warm embraces on this chilly day are all

something they hope is not far from their grasp. kris mcvicker, shirley's niece: "these were two of the best people that you would ever know, and absolutely, we're behind him supportive, and want to see justice brought to what has happened." jacob peklo, reporting: "family members believe there is enough evidence for the dci to make an arrest in this case. they are now hoping that friday's rally will be the push to bring the case back to the forefront. in knoxville, jacob peklo, local 5 news. we are iowa." jack: new tonight at 10, a new strain of the bird flu has hit a turkey farm in the midwest. jack: this one will get the interest of all poultry farmers. the usda confimed that the new strain has infected turkeys in dubois county, indiana. federal officials say this strain is different from the one that ravaged iowa's poultry farms last summer. the farm of nearly 60 thousand turkeys was euthanized to prevent the spread of the disease.

outbreak killed nearly 50 million birds in the u-s. stephanie: turning to your local election headquarters now, one candidate says supporters might get sick of seeing him here in iowa. stephanie that's because donald trump says he's going to be in iowa so much the next couple of weeks. trump said he attracts the biggest crowd of any candidate and he has a great relationship with iowans. the only doubt pundits have is whether his supporters will show up to their precincts on caucus night. he's confident they will. against bigotry. jack: president obama's executive order to curb gun violence has gained a lot of criticism from political candidates. he's asking for stricter background checks at gun shops, shows and over the internet. this weekend a large gun show is being held in altoona. this is the first show in the metro since the president's executive order. vendor bob ducharme (doo-sharm) says the existing laws aren't being enforced, and the new requirements won't prevent people from using guns to commit crimes. "no matter what you do, you gotta do paperwork to buy a gun whether it's through gun shows, whether it's over the internet it gets shipped to a gun store near you, whether its at a store you have to do the paperwork to get a gun. that's the way it works. weather system will be even colder conditions too! sunday is shaping up to be our coldest day this winter yet with temps north of the metro staying below zero all day! and the wind chill values will be in the - 30s there with the metro likely to have - 20s for wind chill temps. we will likely have some sunshine sunday, but it won't help us any. and with clear skies sunday night into monday, it will be the coldest morning we have seen with lows close to -10 in the metro and -20 in northern iowa! and this will be the actual temperature, not wind chills! temperatures will moderate heading into next week with 30s returning by friday

jon: welcome back. tonight is all about high school hoops. 12 games on tap we shot for 15 but sometimes things don't go your way. but stilla great lineup. the maroons are 8-1 to start the season. ankeny comes into the night 9-2. dowling opens the scoring joey kern the three from the corner finds the bottom of the bucket. but trystan cummins comes right back and lay in of his own. forth all night. ted brown with a rebutle-- that's an exclamation-- flush . but trystan cummins was the one with a big man early-- drives again off the window ball game in the first. then the three start raining again from the wing.... he was feeling it-- so why not some more-- this

go hittner to marin daniel back to hittner and the lay up-- silky smooth for the maroons. ankeny though showing some fight even down big codee myers drives into the paint gets the floater to fall.... but dowling making easy work of ankeny tonight. 78 to 39 the final the maroons add another to the win column jon: we head back to roosevelt for the girls game they will be taking on hoover as well. starting off with roosevelt grace cumming down low gets the assist from sarah hanson turns around and shoots it in for two. cumming again down low gets the rebound and is surrounded by hoover but she still puts it up for two. hoover scorless in the first quarter would turn things around in the second. hannah blackford would get the pass below the hoop and put in for two. hoover again starting to gain confidence in the second half. brianna hale with the steal she would run it down the court and lay it in for two. unfortunately it would not be enough. roosevelt would take this game 58 to 28. jordan: most years when a team moves up a class, you can
