explaining why socialist shouldn't be a bad label. martin o'malley, who has been a distant third, used his time to try and invigorate supporters, and show that he is a viable option. elias: and finally in the top five... elias: a texas grand jury has cleared planned parenthood of wrongdoing over a series of controversial undercover videos. the videos appeared to suggest planned parenthood illegally sold fetal tissue and organs. the jury instead indicted the two anti-abortion activists behind the staged videos that sparked the controversy. elias: the topic of gun control is getting attention at the iowa statehouse....wit h a new bill circulating. elias: the measure would give children under the age of 14 the right to use a handgun with their parents permission and supervison this is the third year a pair of young girls... 10 and 12 year old meredith and natalie gibson ...have led the effort to get the law changed. the girls say they like to shoot for sport and hobby just like it was ballet or basketball ... this year they have their own

potential law change called the youth safety and parental rights act. they presented their story at a judiciary sub committee monday afternoon... and found a room split with suppport and opposition. "it boils down to this is a common sense approach. " "children under the age of 14 don't have the same kind of judgement as children 16, 17,18 might have " elias: for the youth safety and parental rights voted on in a house it passes it will go to a full committee. bill... it passed in the house three times. iowa lawmakers...the state's upcoming medicaid education funding... the director of iowa's medicaid program updated a senate committee improvements they've made so

switch over to managed care. one concern has been about the call centers for people on medicaid who have questions about the change over. the changeover is expected to take place march first.... as for education funding, it remains a fight over numbers.... the debate hit the house floor...with a bill calling for a four percent funding increase... but an amendment has passed the house to change it to a two percent increase. "19:41 under this plan, property taxes will go up, class size will icrease, positions will be cut, items like textbook purchases will be ushedoff for another year and technology will be pu at the bottom of purchase orders. damaging fire is sparked during some work at a marshalltown business... sunday night, firefighters repsonded to j- b-s swift and company's meat packing plant in marshalltown. crews spent nearly two hours removing portions of the roof and extinguishing the smoldering areas. after investigation, it was confirmed the fire started as a result of roofing work, causing nearly 500 thousand dollars in damage. elias: damage. elias: at ((time check)) we'll take a short break, but still have more good morning iowa ahead... coming up, the winter weather can have an effect on your emotions....but there are ways to fight off a winter depression. elias: but first...for those traveling into polk county...be safe this morning... the sheriff's office has automated traffic enforcement vehicles at two locations.... one at the ...five-thousand block of northeast 22nd street and a second at the ...71-hundred block of southeast vandalia ..that's in pleasant hill. so take care on the roads

"you're watching good morning iowa in hd. we are iowa." elias: on your money now elias: steady job growth and low mortgage rates meant some good news for the housing market... home sales rebounded in december, with total sales for 20-15 the most in nine years. the national association of realtors said sales of existing homes climbed almost 15 percent last month . sales had previously plummeted as the industry adapted to new mortgage disclosure rules. elias: its no surprise that if you want to go to the n-f- l's biggest game, you'll have to pay some big bucks. the average resale price for tickets to the superbowl is almost 52- hundred dollars. a pair of seats near midfield for the february 7th matchup between the carolina panthers and denver broncos sold for 12- thousand one- hundred dollars each... that's the most expensive seats sold so far.

trending now...a walk around the block turns into a marathon finish for a dog in alabama elias: lots of pictures from the elkmont half- marathon in alabama are being shared...mainly because of ludivine the bloodhound. her owners had let her out for a bathroom break....but she ended up at the starting line... and without a human or leash, ran the entire 13-point-one- miles. her owner... didn't even know about her
