these babies have brain damage to differing degrees which means inserting this generation into society is going to be very complicated. the world health organization now says the virus is "spreading explosively," with the potential of three to four million cases in the next 12 months. (dr. bruce aylward, world health organization, assistant director general) so this virus has been on the move for some time, so a lot of people have been exposed to this virus already in those areas, but it will continue to move, would be the expectation. up to 1.5 million brazilians have been infected but symptoms are mild to none for most people. the serious risk is only in pregnant women. there is no treatment for the zika virus and no immunity either. it's been around for decades but only arrived in the americas last year -- spreading to 24 countries and 31 cases in the continental u.s., all of them brought to the u.s. from abroad.
