midday...i'm lucas casey. lucas: our top story....another fazzino trial..with two people already taking the stand lucas: dozen people have taken the winneshiek county courtroom ... witnesses shed what happened fazzino was found dead inside her family's home her husband, alexander is now on trial for her death. among those testifying, emily's friend who was also the family nanny... she described a rocky relationship between emily's addiction and alexander fazzino's controlling nature. ""i asked emily two questions, one if she was afraid of alex- what'd she say? -yes. then i asked her a second, i asked if she thought alex would harm or even kill her...... she nodded her head yes." last night investigators arrested a man in connection with the november deaths of amy and amber fraaken. following an interview with police, officers charged 47- year-old barney fraaken with two counts of year-old barney fraaken with two counts of first degree murder. on november 22nd, his wife and daughter were found shot to death inside a home on hull avenue. fraaken was taken to a hospital for self-inflicted injuries...and was released from medical care yesterday. police believe the shooting may have been related to a domestic conflict. lucas: local five is also following the latest from tuesday's shooting in a metro school parking lot. lucas: authorities believe the man who was shot may have been waiting to buy drugs when it happened... tuesday night police found 18- year-old darrius colter shot outside of park avenue elementary . during their investigation, they also found a revolver and shell casings near the school. police are still looking for who was responsible. colter was shot in the leg, there's been no update on his condition. lucas: authorities warn of a scam targeting retail clerks in

the scam uses claims of an audit from the corporate office. they tell the clerk to close the shop, empty their register, and then wire the money to them. and to make it sound legitamite....the scammer claims to be watching the security cameras. indianola police say the scam is happening in west des moines as well. anyone who thinks they've been targeted should contact police. lucas: an alert now for residents in ames. your water may look a little rusty today. ames city officials have installed new pipes, and starting today they'll flush them clean to make sure they are properly installed. as a result, you may see some rusty water or changes in water pressure this week. the rusty water is still safe to drink, but may stain laundry. if the discolored water causes staining problems, free rust remover is available at city hall or by calling the number on your screen. lucas: and for those heading out on the roads today...look for additional patrols along interstate 235.... iowa law enforcement is increasing their presence along the roadway thursday...paying

now looks to pack a pretty good amount of rain with snow possible. a warmer trend back into the 40s looks to follow that system so if we do see snow hopefully we can melt it back down soon after. lucas: over to the statehouse...whe re lawmakers are looking into serious allegations at a southeast iowa school. lucas: the investigation of child abuse allegations at midwest academy has state lawmakers questioning oversight... the boarding school for troubled teens is located in keokuk...and was raided by authorities back in january... the house government oversight committee is asking how this school was able to operate without any state oversight. "in the past, often when there is an investigation going on, there are sometimes we can't talk to who we want to because they are under investigation by other authorities and so we get what we can take and try to put it together through that. " lucas: administrators from the

services, and the state's attorney's office will go before the committee in the coming weeks to look at exactly what happened. lucas: also at the statehouse, with approval in place, iowans are just more than a month away from the medicaid change over... lucas: - on cam with one in five iowans using medicaid, there have been plenty of concerns...such as where they will be covered. yesterday, a senate subcommittee met about preparing a bill to oversee the new privatized program. the idea is to ensure the money that's been earmarked for program beneficiaries would stay that way. lucas: and that wasn't the only action regarding the medicaid change... former iowa governor chet culver organized a "medicaid rally" at the capitol... he's been holding townhall meetings about this medicaid change-over the last few weeks.... chet culver, former iowa governor: "my concern is that the first thing that we're going to do under the new program is give 14 percent of that money to three private out of state companies instead of to the beneficiaries." lucas: there has been some speculation culver may be gearing up for another run at state

culver says he has no plans to run for office, at either the iowa or national level. look for our full interview with former governor culver on this week in iowa, airing sunday at 9 am. lucas: in more local news, the actions of a metro high school are getting some attention lucas: roosevelt high school has taken a step toward making students of any gender identity feel safe.....by opening two of its restrooms that used to be staff-only...to now, being " all- gender" restrooms. the change comes after a student created a petiton...and took it to school leaders the principal says he knows there are at least ten students currently at the high school who identify as transgender... the student that lead the push for change says she started her misson after seeing another student struggle. i was using the restroom one day, and a student who identifies as a male, he was using the womans restroom because for some reason he didn't feel safe using a restroom intended for the gender he identified with, i don't think thats right. lucas:
