shot in ken county yesterday. corporal lloyd mccann was trying to apprehend a domestic violence suspect, after a brief chase the suspect got out of his car and exchanged gun fire with the trooper, and hicks later died and mccann is in critical condition. a sinkhole opened in northeast philadelphia today, people that live on the 88 hundred block of bradford street. alerting them to move their cars while it was buckling. crews have replaced the 8-inch main and they are working to repair the large cracks in the pavement. philadelphia is building another waterfront park this one in south philadelphia. they will spend almost $2 million transforming pier 68 into a place of play and relaxation over looking the delaware river. vernon odom is live now, it

sounds like the park could be a wonderful destination sandwiched between columbus boulevard and the river. >> reporter: jim, it's going to be lovely, all too often this is the major calling card or the face of what you see along the delaware river, no trespassers and danger. no longer, you see this fence stopping people from going down to the river, razor wire on top it looks like a prison. that is many of the cases in areas leading to the river but coming soon next summer this will change on pier 68 as it is in many places. the wildlife was at peace feeling the vibe of redevelopment coming to pier 68. next year 15 blighted unused acres will be transferred into a new pier park, one of many parks

the city is creating with funding and contributions every half mile along the river. >> it will be a magnificent park when it opens, this is the third park we have built in the last five yours, this is one of parks already open for business and other opens next month at pier 33 and washington avenue. it has fishing points. >> many areas like parks and trails improves the area and has economic benefits for the entire city. >> this area heading southbound will be known as delaware waterfront trail, a six mile long biking and walking trail that extends to fishtown. south philly neighborhoods on the other side, that battled from seeing a casino being built

and now they are stepping in to give new jersey a state song. nora muchanic has that story from trenton. >> wearing distinctive red t shires they made themselves, a group of students came to trenton to lobby for a state song. >> tennessee has 11 state songs and we are the only state that doesn't have one. >> i think it's important, it would be something good for new jersey. >> new jersey is squabbling over a state song for decades, you would think the home of the sinatra and bruce springsteen would have one but we don't. >> the delran students, are lobbying for a tune "i'm from new jersey". >> the dude is 92 years old, that is older than i am. and it's such a great song. >> he is roaming the halls for

tonight. >> the sixers were awful last season and they have the second worst record and they can vastly improve their roster with the nba draft. it's in brooklyn and we join jeff skversky live with the preview. >> reporter: hey ducis, the sixers have the third and tenth overall picks and if they are going to make a run for andrew wiggins and the top pick from cleveland, they better get on that quickly. they are running out of time, the clock starts for cleave tonight and there are multiple reports that the sixers are going after andrew wiggins. here is brooklyn at the barclay center, which one of these guys or multiple guys will end up on the sixer's roster tonight. everyone else, the sixers are eyeing on hand including wiggins

region, 76 in the poconos and the shore communities with a west wind 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. as we look at the dew points, yesterday we were in the mid-70s, especially south of philadelphia, that was the oppressive humidity, all the water vapor sitting in the atmosphere. 64 in trenton and 61 in philadelphia and 50s now in the poconos, the lower the number the drier the air is, and those dew points go into the 40s come saturday. satellite and radar, some activity bubbling up north and west of state college, that remains there and high pressure is in control of the great lakes, and we get multiple high pressures out of canada. so far this late spring and early summer season, that is a good thing if you don't like the heat and humidity, yet another high comes in sitting pretty here in new england as well as the mid-atlantic for saturday.
