"action news" reporter, sarah bloomquist, is live at the zoo tonight. and sarah, you have the details. >> well jim, that's right. police tell "action news" the 57-year-old mechanic killed when the heavy-duty golf cart he was working on fell on top of themselves. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. and police on the scene in a maintenance area at the back of the zoo. the police say the mechanic working on the 9-foot golf cart this morning. a mechanical jack failed and the golf cart fell on his chest. no witnesses and no other workers around at the time. the mechanic laid there for an unknown amount of time until he was discovered after he failed to respond to his radio when other workers tries to contact him. pronounced dead at 11:43 a.m. the zoo will bring in grief

counselors to help them deal with a co-worker well known and well-liked. >> a great guy and we all really liked him. i was loved by many and definitely something that will hit a lot of people really hard. >> this mechanic worked here at the philadelphia zoo since march of 2000. this did happen in an area that was not accessible to the public. behind the scenes as they say. again, there were no witnesses. live at the zoo, sarah bloomquist channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, sarah. and medics took five students to children's hospital late today after an accident involving a school bus in south philadelphia. chopper 6 hd flew over the intersection at 15th and passyunk at 4:30 this afternoon. they say a white pick up truck rear-ended the bus. actions learned of 28 students from an islamic academy were on board. the treated students complained of pain, but they say the injuries are minor. prosecutors dropped rape

charges against a philadelphia police officer once hailed a hero. richard decoatsworth arrested in may, 2013. the 28-year-old accused of drugging and raping two women and forcing them into prostitution. earlier this year decoatsworth accepted a plea deal but withdraw the plea. prosecutors say they dropped the charges after an intense follow-up investigation. today decoatsworth walked out of court a freeman -- free man after a year in jail. and he did not comment but his mother broke down in tears. >> god is great. god is amazing. [crying] thank you jesus. >> decoatsworth was honored by the white house after he was shot in the face while on duty in 2007. decoatsworth still faces legal action related to an alleged domestic incident involving his girlfriend. former sportscaster, don

tollefson, today admitted to scamming hundreds of people with fake travel packages. he led guilty in doylestown, selling his victim tickets to out of town eagles game and the super bowl in the name of charity. victims are seeks $317,000 in restitution. tollefson will be sentenced in 60 days. the search continues for the gunman who committed the execution-style murder of a 42-year-old woman saturday night in the strawberry mansion section of philadelphia. and kenneth moton live at police headquarters. do the police have any leads here? >> well jim, if they have any leads they are definitely not giving us those details this evening. but an update, the homicide detectives say the killings were caught on camera. this afternoon the homicide detectives back at the scene of an execution-style murder on the 3200 block of moore street in strawberry mansion.

it was a possible hit. the victim the police say was a 42-year-old mother, katherine barry. >> was she targeted? >> absolutely she was. we don't know why but she was absolutely targeted and we're asking for the public's help. >> the captain clark says around 10:00 saturday night barry walking home with her 13-year-old doubter and dog. they just returned from the store. a man walked up and opened fire. after police scoured the area looking for clues they found r surveillance video of the killing. >> you see them walking up the streets and out of the shadow as male described as a black male in early 50s, heavy set with like a gray beard pulled out a gun and walks right up to here and fires about nine or ten shots right at her, striking her several times and killing her. >> barry's horrified teenage daughter was not physically injured but witnessed her mother's murder. >> absolute tragedy. the mother gunned down in front of the daughter. the daughter was the one who

called 911 and got the police out there. very traumatizing for her. >> the police are looking for tips as they try to figure out why this more was killed. we're also working to find out more about this victim, katherine barry. we have the latest tonight on "action news." reporting live from philadelphia police head quarterers this evenings. jim? >> thank you, kenneth. an arson task force now vest gating the deadly fire of the cooper university health system c.e.o. john sheridan and his wife, joyce, found dead in a burned-out bedroom in the township home he remember yesterday morning. autopsy results are expected tomorrow. sheridan led cooper health for the last ten years much his wife was a retired school teacher. fire gutted a montgomery county home in pennsylvania early this morning. firefighters called to the 700 block of eastland circle after 3:00 a.m. flames were shooting through the roof when crews arrived.

junior citizens high-rise, and they took the streets to air their complaints. amy buckman was there. [chanting] >> several dozen senior citizens blocked washington avenue between third and fourth streets this morning to protest what they say is bad management at the courtyard at riverview. the senior citizen apartment building subsidized by the philadelphia housing authorities, but owned and managed by the michaels organization out of new jersey. they say the manager is disrespectful not responding to maintenance. >> i have been here 15 years and my rugs have not been cleaned or washed or nothing. they are stuck to the floor and they won't fix it. >> putting out senior citizens $2 short for rent. >> the elevator often out of

order. >> and the final straw friday when the manager locked them out of the common social room. they tried to speak with her about the residents complaints. >> this is channel 6. can we talk with you, sir, about some of the complaints that the seniors have? we came out to the offices of the michaels organization which runs the building. a spokeswoman told me she was aware of tenants complaints but referred to them as a personnel issue she was not able to discuss with us on camera. in an email they say the company is planning to meet with residents soon to discuss concerns. adding the broken elevator is under contract to are repaired. residents who request the common room be unlocked for their use, and any evictions are processed by an attorney following the letter of the law. in south philadelphia, amy buckman for channel 6 "action news." two south jersey colleges expanded partnership to help
