good afternoon, rick will be along a little bit later. in the news this noon, a path of deadly storms leaves across the nation's midsection. but the big story is the alarming new news about the ebola virus. they say that 70% of people that have contracted ebola in this current outbreak have died. and west africa could see as many as 10,000 new case a week. this as u.s. health officials continue to scramble to figure out how a nurse contracted the virus. marcy gonzales has more from dallas. >> reporter: potentially life saving help for the nurse being treated at this dallas hospital. nina pham being given a blood

important facts about the spread of the virus and new details of screening measures at major airports. it's all there at 6abc.com. to another news, a 10-year-old boy in wayne county, will be charged as an adult for killing an 80-year-old woman, it happened over the weekend in tyler hill. he got into an argument and put her cane around her throat and punched her numerous times, the boy's grandfather cares for novak, he is now being held at the wayne county correctional facility without bail. two philadelphia firefighters were injured battling a house fire in the tacony section overnight. that blaze left nine people out of their home. katherine scott has the details. >> reporter: two firefighters were taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion and nine people are displaced after the fire

gutted their home. >> i saw the smoke coming out of the house. >> jeffrey realized the home across the street from his was on fire. he acted fast. >> i grabbed my fiance, my daughter and the cats. >> residents were able to get out on their own. >> when the company arrived, that was about 2:00 minutes, the fire was on every floor. the red cross responded while attending to the families and while firefighters wfr at work. three homes were affected but the damage is major in the home where the fire began. >> the fire marshall is investigating and the opposite homes on either side have smoke damage. >> everybody got out okay and the firefighters were amazing, they risk their lives and everybody is safe. >> residents on either side of the house were able to return

home this morning and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. philadelphia police are looking for two suspects that opened fire on a north philadelphia street killing a man, it happened on the 2100 block of north uber street at 11:45 last night. police say that 32 bullet casings were found at the scene and a 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 46-year-old woman was shot once and is in stable condition at the hospital. that indicates she was not the target. >> due to the fact that the female was only hit once and this male was shot at least ten times, it appears that this male was the intended target. >> police are now talking to witnesses and checking out surveillance video hoping to identify the suspects. these pictures are just into "action news" of a dog found extremely malnourished in

chester county, it's a young adult female pit terrier, mostly white about black spots, it weighed just 20 pounds when found in the backyard of a home, and the delaware county spca is investigating the homeowner for possible neglect. they are following a strict regimented care from the spca. the penalty face for raghunandan yandamuri's trial continues at this hour. a jury found him guilty of first degree murder of 10-month-old saanvi venna and her grandmother, he faces the death penalty or life in prison. a massive 800 mile long weather system is threatening the country from the gust coast to the midwest. these storms are blamed for two deaths in arkansas and alabama. the state of louisiana is in a state of emergency after trees were uprooted and cars crushes

and power lines left danglingp and part of a roof of a tire shop collapsed on top of a car this morning. here at home we are enjoying a taste of summer in october. sky 6 hd taking a look at the center city skyline, the sun is shining through the cloud cover and it's a vast improvement through yesterday's gloomy, rainy weather. david murphy has the word from accuweather. >> reporter: accuweather promised with a return to summer and there is a little cloud cover we are dealing with this morning, but enough sun is digging through the clouds to make it feel bright and the flow from the southwest tapping into the warm, slightly more humid air to the south, it feels like summer and rain to the west not an issue for us today. here are current numbers, in philadelphia, 77 degrees, same

thing in millville and 76 in dover and 74 in the lehigh valley, and everybody is warm. here is a panel we don't always show you, dew points. everybody is over the 60% threshold, it feels moderately humid in the reaction. we have a chance to go up to about 80 in philadelphia, only 3 degrees more than where we are. and far above the average high, of 67 degrees. an indication that tomorrow will be warm, tonight's low not getting all that cool, 66 degrees, 17 degrees above average. but as we look ahead, stormtracker 6 live double scan, you get a sense that we'll be looking at a different sort of day, there is an area of low pressure and the comma shaped cold front, sort of what we call a backwards cam comma and a warm

passengers on an american airlines flight when the pan ets started to come down. some of the panels came loose and the pilot turned around shortly after the flight started. >> looking around and trying to figure out what was going on, it sounds like bowling balls were fall frgt overhead bins. >> they do not rely on the wall panels to fly safely and it is believed the problem was caused by a blown airduct. in indiana several people were injured after a double decker bus overturned. about 25 people were hurt and eight of them seriously. the bus was trafficking from chicago when it happened. it's believed that it happened within the driver swerved to avoid another crash on i-65.

day to of the sentencing phase for oscar pistorius in south africa, a psychologist that testified for him characterized him as a broken man. he was found guilty of culpable homicide in the murder of his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. these are the first pictures of north korean leader, kim jong un, who has not been seen in six weeks, he is seen smiling with a cane at the event. but north korean media did not say when this was taken or when he made the visit to the science center. they believe that another person center. they believe that another person may be run i'm tom wolf. these are my parents. we look after each other. but too many seniors have no one. and harrisburg politicians don't seem to care. as governor, i'll create a registry so families can check backgrounds of care providers.

nice, a place you would not mind spending time in. 77 degrees in philadelphia and your dew point at 63, i pointed this out at the top of the half hour, it feels slightly humid out there, that is unusual for this time of year. winds out of the south at 11 miles per hour. that is not oppressive humidity but you'll feel it if you are outside exercise or doing yard-work. mid-70s through allentown and trenton and upper 70s in millville and mid-70s in dover and 75 in wildwood with a 74 degree reading at the airport in atlantic city. satellite shows you how there is still cloud cover out there and this is thin and sparse enough to allow sunshine in between the clouds, we think it's fairly bright the rest of the way, plan on grabbing the sunglasses before you head out driving. up in allentown, sun mixing with

clouds and breezy and 76 degrees, is your forecast high. down the shore a nice day on the boards for a stroll, sunny and breezy and 76 degrees is your high there, and in philadelphia, a high of 80 degrees, with a mix of sun and warm, winds are out of the south, at 20 miles per hour through the rest of the afternoon. mostly cloudy and fog could be developing overnight. we were looking for that this morning but there is another chance of that tomorrow morning. 66 is the overnight low, that is mild for this time of year. for the afternoon and evening commute, no big issues, a little breezy and clouds and sun mix, we'll fall from the upper 70s to the low 70s by 7:00, tomorrow we are warm again, because we have a cold front to the west, but it's a different kind of day, we'll see clouds digging in and

maybe sprinkles and showers in time for the early morning broadcast, and then as we get into the afternoon, any time after lunch time or in particular after 2:00 or 3:00, keep your eyes on the western skies for downpour producing showers but perhaps a couple of gusty thunderstorms as they pop up from the northwest. as the front pushes closer to us, another chance of these scattered but heavy downpour producing showers and thunderstorms and more of the same up until 11:00, i am liable to have a little something to show you in the morning as we go through the day starting at 4:00 with adam and cecily you'll look at something on radar. we'll have the live images here better than any where else. we could go as high as 80 degrees here in philadelphia, the models that are 24 hours out make its hard to pinpoint it.

video game store in philadelphia. now the details, the man convicted of killing a baby and her grandmother in king of prussia is learning his fate. the sentencing phase for raghunandan yandamuri continues today and he could get the death penalty. david henry is live now. >> reporter: the jury is on a lunch break after hearing the rest of the testimony in the penalty trial, they will hear closing arguments and then make their life or death decision. 28-year-old raghunandan yandamuri is facing the death penalty after the jury found him guilty of two counts of first degree murder. in 2012 he killed 10-month-old saanvi venna, and her grandmother. he claims he was forced into it and the police say he acted

alone and was motivated by an out of control gambling problem. he demonstrated on video how he killed saanvi and her grandmother. after the lastwity and was called in the penalty phase, he indicated he wanted to address the jury directly but that would open him up to cross-examination over his lack of remorse. we'll hear more about that this afternoon and the jury will decide whether or not to impose the death penalty. david henry, channel 6 "action news." >> david thank you. two philadelphia firefighters were hurt overnight putting out a house fire, it started at 4:30 a.m., on the 400 block of vista street, everybody inside was able to get out

safely but at this point nine residents are not allow stod return home. a south jersey woman was killed in a crash yesterday on i-95 in buck county. 44-year-old lisa de maio died when her jeep liberty hit a guardrail and flipped. police say it happened because a black sedan pulled in front of her jeep and hit the brakes. the ebola virus is proving to be even more deadly in africa than experts first thought, the world health organization now confirms the death rate has riz and to 70%. back in the u.s. customs and health officials in washington, atlanta, and newark, new jersey, will take the temperatures of passengers from three african nations, federal health officials say that the entry screenings will add a layer of

it has spawned tornadoes, hail and flooding rains. >> reporter: this dramatic photo was captured in heartfield, alaba alabama, it set the stage for devastation, killing two people in arkansas and alabama. a 75-year-old woman was crushed by a tree that fell on ton of her mobile home. >> tried everything i could to get her out but there was a tree on top of her. >> in arkansas a father was killed and his wife and children rushed to the hospital after their home was leveled. they are picking through the debris of what was one their homes. >> i think it was an ef 2, it's main determination was the mobile home behind me that was pretty much demolished. >> and louisiana a state of emergency, trees uproots and

for us, we have clouds spread out enough to allow sunshine in between them. it probably looks better on the ground than this satellite suggests and the showers in pittsburgh and the virginias is not a problem for us. 80 for a high this afternoon in philadelphia, that is right i said 80 and for the evening commute, breezy conditions and warm and 78 by 4:00 and mid-70s by 5:30 and the low 70s by 7:00 tonight. a little bit muggy, but not too shabby. here is the wide view with the large system to the west, notice how slowly it's pushing to the east, we don't have a threat of rain today. you see some red and yellow boxes forming ahead of that main line east of atlantic a, the red one is a tornado watch box, and there are severe thunderstorms, as it pushes towards the east, it looks like we'll get some heavy downpour producing rain cells and strong gusty

thunderstorms as well tomorrow afternoon and overnight into early thursday morning. i talked about this a while ago, but lets go through this again, if we get storms, here are the main threats, downpours whether or not we see thunderstorms are likely because of the humid air we have building in over the next 24 hours, locatized flooding but not major creek and stream flooding. this is flashy roads that tend to take on the flooding easily. it's possible if we do pop storms. and the national storm prediction sent ser warning of a pond books possible tornado up and down the east coast, but that is a stretch for us. i think just downpours, localized flooding and strong straight line gusty winds, this is enough to make sure you treat these storms with respect. we'll have another look at future tracker 6 when i step

causing controversy. she continued her cross fit workouts until the baby was born. alicia vitarelli has the story. >> reporter: these are the images causing a stir, a pregnant woman in her ninth month doing strenuous pushups while standing on her head, all part of her cross fit workout. when she became pregnant with her second child she saw no reason to quit. >> being pregnant is not being sick. >> the only thing they she changed was the amount of weight she lifts from 65 pounds to 50. she worked closely with a trainer and when she showed her doctor videos of her workout she was assured it was safe to continue. >> people that are at this level of fitness before the pregnancy, they can lift and to their bodies and continue to work out at that level through the entire

the world's largest chocolate companies are joing the battle against ebola, like mars, hershey and godiva and general mills are all fighting to help the outbreak. they are taking donations to the red cross. it's mid-october and we still feel like summer here but in the mountains of colorado they are getting ready to ski, parts of summit count got a few inches of snow over the weekend, employees at the loveland ski area are getting ready and they

say that mother nature will determine the exact opening date. >> a few inches of snow. i want that for all winter here. especially after last winter. we don't have to worry about that, we have to worry about putting on sunscreen. we are dry outside according to stormtracker 6 live double scan. it's the kind of day you want to get outside. not a bad idea to wear sunscreen, the sun is lower but it's a good idea if are you going to be out there. the story is how warm it's going to be, pleasant with slightly lower humidity. and there are downpour reducing showers. maybe tomorrow night and early thursday morning. 77 degrees with no such trouble. the dew point above the threshold, and 63 is the threshold at 77 miles per hour,

a fair amount of cloud cover out there. enough holes in the cloud cover to allow sunshine and rain out to the west of us and it's a slow moving system and it will take until sometime tomorrow until we have to worry about that rain arriving in our neck of the woods. everybody will get toasty today. 76 in allentown and 77 reading and close to that in trenton and wilmington and mid to low 70s down towards the shore and 74 in cape may is the cold spot. a high of 80 at 3:00 today and still holding on to 77 by 5:00. and down to 72 by 7:00 and keep in mind it's on the muggy side and an overnight low of 69 degrees, maybe some fog or drizzle tomorrow morning and it will feel muggy out there. in the morning i may have showers to show you and sprinkles as least on

stormtracker 6 live double scan, our radar does a great job of picking up the heavy stuff but also the light stuff. the cold front is driving in from the west and showing up in the form of heavy, downpour producing thunderstorms. the model when we show it every couple of hours, we'll place this stuff differently, but the idea is after lunch time and into the later afternoon hours, anybody has the possibility of picking up the heavy, isolating downpours. by 11:30 at night when cecily is wrapping things up she'll probably some some showers and additional thunderstorms to show you. we are looking at a fair amount of rain here on these models, it's not unusual for a full day ahead of time for the models to disagree but we could go two-thirds to two inches of others. it could come down heavy enough for street flooding tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night.

i want to mention, hurricane gonzalo is a category 2 and veered away from san juan, puerto rico, it could grow into a 4 as it comes past bermuda as a 2 or 3 late friday night. if you have plans to go to bermuda or have an interest there on friday, you may want to keep your eyes on the storm, it could be a pretty good hit. warm around here today and pleasant with a high of 80, summer time lovers got out there and love this for a day. tomorrow it might be hard to get outside in the afternoon, humid and 79 degrees, much stickier this time of day and tomorrow afternoon we are under the threat of a scattered shower or thunderstorm. the rain ends early sunday morning. but a thunderstorm early thursday morning but we kind of dry out and things look good on friday, saturday, and cooler on
