good afternoon, sara bloomquist is off and we begin with noon with developing news. there is word of a confession from eric frein. the accused cop killer was paraded in front of the media this morning after his suspected murder of a pennsylvania police strooper. sources tell us that he admitted to the crime that sparked a 48 day manhunt in the poconos. chad pradelli is live now where frein made his first appearance this morning. >> he is charged with first degree murder and attempted murder and a slew of other charges. he looked like a broken man inside of the courtroom and gave many one word answers before the judge and there were more than a dozen pennsylvania state troopers it in the courtroom and each one of them stared at frein and you can sense their fury and

then there was a spectacle on the courthouse steps. >> they brought out frein in front of a throng of people and cameras. and then paraded him around the courthouse while people yelled, why? he is accused of killing troop er and wounding another trooper. >> a team was sweeping through the area and surprised him as he was outs side of the hangar, gave him commands to sounder and he complied with those commands and was take and into custody. >> the bomb squad is conducting a sweep of the hangar because of possible booby traps. a rifle is recovered and frein may have buried another weapon,

a journal was also discovered but its contents are unclear. police say that the accused killer knew the terrain and that allowed him to remain at large for too long. >> he was able to get into cabins and other unoccupied structures and in other cases he had things hidden and he was able to get out of the weather and be protected. >> he was captured after an exhausted search and this allows the poconos area to regain some normalcy. for the families of corporal dickson and trooper douglas that will never happen. >> they have suffered an unimaginable loss of unspeakable proportions.

>> frein was remanded to the pike county facility. the district here says he will seek the death penalty. i'm chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> we are getting our first look at the abandoned airport hangar where frein was captured. it's in tannersville, monroe county, frein was arrested by u.s. marshals who were on routine patrol as part of the manhunt, and he was apprehended without a struggle. police cruisers are still on the scene there as the investigation continues despite frein's capture. dupont highway, they used the note to locate the suspect and victim hours later near the dover mall. he abducted his estranged wife and kept her duct taped to a bed for the past week. an apartment fire forced 69 people out of their homes and the blaze injured one resident and one firefighter. heavy flames tore through the building just before midnight and many residents were not able to get out the front door and they had to find different ways to escape. >> the smoke was everywhere, we had to go out the back window out the fire escape. >> an emergency shelter is set up at sarah high school for all the displaced. the fire remains under investigation. one wilmington family's scare is now over. boo the cat is back home. the exotic looking savannah cat

plane crashed into a flight training facility in wichita, the pilot reported an engine problem right after takeoff. he was killed along with four p.m. in the building. intention flames kept people from ending erring the building. hawaii's national guard deployed troops because of the massive lava flow. it is making a slow slide to pahoa, and could isolate the residents there. homes are threatened but so far none has been decide. officials today are concerned about the fumes rising from the molten black lava and the potential to become toxic. nurse, tracy, hickox, is

there is a murder mystery out of utah where five family members were found dead in their home. they were apparently poisoned. alicia vitarelli joins us with more on this bizarre tragedy. >> bizarre and heart breaking, the mother, father and three of their children were found dead in the master bedroom by their son, the only one that survived. and now details emerged that says it could be merger. the police believe that the family died from an accidental or purposeful poisoning. >> according to the search warrants, relatives found the parents, benjamin inchristie
