as you can imagine this community is on high alert tonight. police are passing out fliers just like this one alerting everyone about this crime. tonight they're hoping that someone will recognize that suspect so they can make an arrest. philadelphia police want you to take a good look at the man caught in these surveillance pictures. detectives believe he's responsible for an attempted rape of a 19-year-old woman early wednesday morning. >> somebody out there is going to recognize this person. we need them to call. if they want to remain anonymous they can. just tell us who he is. we'll take it from there before he hurts somebody else. >> reporter: the attack happened as the victim was walking in the 1300 block of wharton street at 1:30 in south philadelphia. she told detectives she felt someone walking behind her. she grabbed her mace and that's when the man attacked. >> he rushed up lined her grabbed her tackled her to the ground and he pulled her dress down -- the top of her dress he pulled down exposing her. she managed to fight him off and pepper spray him at which time he fleddism it's no doubt

a terrifying ordeal and police are praising the brave 19-year-old woman for being able to fight back and escape. >> she was in the fight of her life. that's her handled at his throat. so she was in the fight of her life and she fought him off. >> reporter: we showed people living in the neighborhood pictures of the suspect who is described as a 37-year-old black man about five-seven and 225 pounds. police say he was wearing a black hooterred sweatshirt and black pants. no one we talked to recognized him. residents are disturbed by the news and hoping for a quick arrest. >> i wonder if she had any kind of training or had anybody tell her, you know, don't freeze in that moment, like fight, scream, yell, yell fire, do something. you know, to get away. >> there's a balance between fighting back and being smart and i think that she probably, you know, took a little bit of a risk but i'm glad that she did and i'm glad that the guy didn't hurt her any more than he did. >> reporter: and tonight detectives say that they are reviewing more surveillance video. they're asking anyone with information about this to call

police. live in south philadelphia, gray hall, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, gray. in the past hour, officials in minnesota released new details about the death of music icon and legend prince. the head of the local sheriff's department said there were no signs of trauma on prince's body when he was found by first responders. officials have also ruled out suicide as a cause. an autopsy has been completed officials say it could take several weeks though for the results to come back. abc news is in minnesota tracking the latest on that investigation into prince's death and we'll have more for you at 5:30. 20/20 is devoting a full hour to prince's life and legacy tonight. elizabeth vargas will have more on his impact on the music industry and the investigation into his death. it's called prince, the legend, the mystery. it airs at 10:00 p.m. here on 6abc. >> new at 5:00 tonight a man involved in a deadly shooting with violent police made his first court appearance today. according to police john bane

and richard barr jr. were lined a holdup in vineland earlier this month. there was an exchange of gunfire when officers arrived on the scene, bard was killed, bane is now facing several charges including robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon. his bail remains at $200,000. >> students at howard high school of technology in wilmington returned to class today one day after that deadly fight in a school bathroom yesterday. 16-year-old amy joyner-francis lost consciousness during the fight yesterday morning. an autopsy has yet to determine how she died. today grief counselors were on hand at howard high and schools dismissed early. chad pradelli is following that investigation. veal more tonight on "action news" a -- he'll have more tonight on "action news at 6:00. >> dr. steven mayer superintendent of robbinsville schools was hit and killed tuesday morning while jogging. according to police, the driver was a 17-year-old student at the high school, mayer oversaw. today friends, family and

loved ones attended a memorial service at princeton alliance church. the memorial was broadcast via satellite to several locations including robbinsville high. >> turning now to the race for the white house. with less than four days to go until voters head to the polls in pennsylvania and delaware candidates are working local voters trying to build momentum and last minutes support. >> that includes republican frontrunner donald trump who is holding a rally right now at the delaware state fairgrounds in kent county. and that's where "action news" reporter trish hartman is standing by live as well. trish. >> reporter: rick, monica, you might be able to hear trump is still speaking inside. the event started about a half hour late so he has been speaking about 30 minutes or so on jobs trade immigration all within the first couple of minutes. thousands of people gathered here at the delaware state fairgrounds to hear donald trump's speech ahead of tuesday's primarily locations. >> this is great. we love to be here. do we love delaware? do we love it? yes? inside the arena at the telling wear state fairgrounds asking for their support and their vote this tuesday. amole out this week shows trump ahead among delaware republicans by 37 percentage points. >> delaware was hit very hard by closures of its auto manufacturing plants, right, yes? over the years including chrysler and gm plants, cruz and kasich support the trans pacific partnership which will absolutely kill the auto industry in this country. i'm against that. i've been fighting it. >> reporter: hours before the rally people waited patiently to get in. some came with chairs a and blankets can. first in line donna and her 15-year-old daughter natalie. >> because i wanted to be able to be up front when -- see him up close and possibly have him sign my hat. if. >> reporter: why do you think he would be a good president. >> because he is a businessman and this country needs a businessman. >> reporter: many trump fans say they're ready to support a candidate who is not a career politician.

joe sestak are the four democratic candidates for the u.s. senate and they gathered at the 6abc studios in philadelphia today for an hour long discussion on several issues. it was moderated by our own jim gardner. our "action news" special vote 2016 the pennsylvania democratic senatorial primary debate will air this sunday morning at 11 o'clock. >> now to the philadelphia flyers. the team's post season hopes are on the line tonight in washington. >> after a big win against the caps on wednesday, the flyers lived to play another game. but they're still down three games to one in the series. >> "action news" sports reporter jaime apody is live inside the verizon center with a preview. hey, jamie. >> reporter: hey there, rick. they've done it before, six years ago against boston, the flyers came back from an zero-three deficit to win the series but these capitals they're the best team in hockey and they've shown that all year. take a look at morning skate this morning after skipping practice yesterday, the flyers

took to the ice. yesterday they attended ed snider's memorial service instead. the problem for the flyers they have been having trouble with scoring. with braden holtby in they've been killed on the power play. tonight they know they have to play physical but smart. >> i think that's been our goal all series long. we want to wear them down. they have a big fast team over there. we got to play the same way. it's not like we're going to be more physical. we're just trying to play within our structure. >> it's going to be a physical series in that we need the keep our emotions in check and play within our system. >> i thought we did a good job of that last game. we got to keep doing it. >> speaking of emotions it was an emotional day for the flyers yesterday as they attended ed snider's memorial service and jay snider ed snider's son ended the service by saying to the caps watching on the live stream we're not done yet. let's hope he's right. we'll have more coming up a little bit later in sports.

live in washington, i'm jaime apody channel6 "action news." >> thanks jamie. breaking news from philadelphia international airport where chopper6 is over a huge protest by drivers of uber black and uber x. as you can tell perhaps in the middle of your screen they're using their vehicles to temporarily block the arrival road near terminal a here at the airport. this protest began just about a half hour ago and they are apparently demonstrating against the guidelines for taxicab drivers. they say those guidelines are unfair for uber drivers. there have been no arrests. police are on the scene. again, the purpose of the demonstration is for the group feeling they are unfairly targeted because of guidelines that favor taxicab drivers so they're blocking the entrance here at terminal a. we'll keep an eye o situation bring you more information as it becomes available to us. >> time for a check of the "action news" traffic report for elsewhere. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with a low down on the slow down friday night. >> that's one of a few

protests we have going on out there right now rick and monica. there's one in olde city along market street and we have one in center city along south broad close to the union league. and on the highways at this point things are mostly dry, most of the highways but it's plenty crowded here on the schuylkill expressway. eastbound we've had two separate issues. there was a crash by girard that's gone and a broken down vehicle approaching passyunk also cleared but you can see the heavy delays the result coming away from the boulevard in towards south philadelphia. also getting word of an accident on 95 northbound by academy taking out a lane so that's causing some slowing. in evesham township a crash is closing old marlton pike by the sanctuary. stay up on 70 to get around that. in winslow township, we're watching a crash along 73 by the a.c. expressway. and headed into delaware, it's been a better day at the delaware memorial bridge. three lanes opened, only one closed because of the emergency construction but it sounds like that one could remain blocked for several more days. rick and monica, back over to you. >> all right, matt, we'll see you next half hour. thank you. much more still ahead on "action news at 5:00 tonight.

why should we trust a like steve santarsiero who will say anything to win an election? after claiming credit for passing universal background checks for all gun purchases, "santarsiero admitted in an interview that he didn't write pennsylvania's gun safety law." his campaign brags about his accomplishments, but "in fact, he has failed in 54 attempts to get any legislation on the books." we just cant trust steve santarsiero. i'm shaughnessy naughton, and i approve this message because we deserve better.

>> officials in ohio investigating a bizarre string of murders. eight people were found dead today at four different crime scenes about 100 miles east of cincinnati. seven of the victims were killed execution style according to police. in the past 30 minutes officials said all the victims were from the same family and included a 16-year-old. so far no arrests have been made and a motive is still unclear. president obama is in london tonight to urge britain to stay in the european union. he met with prime minister david cameron today. he says eu membership allows the uk to spread british values across the continent and brings extraordinary economic benefits to british citizens but he says ultimately the voters must decide. >> speaking honestly the outcome of that decision is a

matter of deep interest to the united states because it affects our prospects as well. >> voters will have the final say on the issue in a referendum in june. >> dozen ares of verizon workers hit the streets of center city this morning in protest. members of the communication workers of america local 1300 gathered on walnut street. many held signs reading fight corporate agreed. thousands of verizon workers have been on strike in several states. they say the company is outsourcing their jobs. verizon says it is not shipping jobs overseas. and it stands ready to bargain with the union leadership it says in good faith. 12 big buildings are winners of an energy saving race to make philadelphia greener. officials announced the winners of a city wide competition to reduce energy use. a dozen buildings reduced their energy output or needs by 5 percent and they won in three different categories. officials say the real test, though, comes now with long term sustainability and winners each get $5,000. good job.

here with the forecast for the weekend and more. hey, cecily. >> hi, monica and rick. after nine straight dry days in a row, storm tracker6 live double scan finally showing some showers on this earth day. not a lot going on, though. we have a few sprinkles in new castle county, in cumberland county. the main batch of rain, this was some heavy rain over cape may county, it's continuing to push out to sea but there is some more on the way and the bulk of this will be occurring in the overnight hours. temperatures, though, ahead of this cold front. we've got the winds out of the south-southwest so it's pretty warm out there. philadelphia 76 degrees right now. we hit 78 degrees earlier today. allentown reading and trenton 75. dover also 75. cape may with a wind off the ocean a little bit cooler, currently 61 degrees. and you may have noticed today a little bit on the humid side. typically, though, in the summer when we have dewpoints in the 50's we talk about just how comfortable it feels but everything is relative. we had dewpoints in the upper 20's earlier today so there is

more moisture in the air and this is the reason why. satellite6 along with action radar showing these winds out of the southwest all ahead of a system. there's low pressure over the ohio valley. this is very slow moving. there's a cold front and this whole system is gradually sliding to the east but it's going to take awhile to move in and it's also going to take awhile to move out. so, future tracker showing 7 o'clock tonight lots of clouds, a few spotty showers, not much activity. again, really the same around 11:00. the main event occurs in the wee hours of the morning around 3 o'clock. don't be surprised if you actually hear a rumble of thunder south of philadelphia. the problem with the slow moving system is that it will remain unsettled for your saturday morning. 8 o'clock plenty of clouds with a few scattered showers and then gradually as we head through the day, the skies will clear from northwest to the southeast but those clouds likely will linger at the jersey shore right into the late afternoon hours. so, this is what to expect.

a few scattered showers and downpours, a couple of thunderstorms. we're looking at about a quarter inch to perhaps a half inch of rain in some areas, really a drop in the bucket. so the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow is a day of transition. morning clouds, lingering showers, some afternoon sunshine with a high of 73 degrees. so pretty nice weather for the union game. on sunday, beautiful, mostly sunny and pleasant, 69 degrees. monday we bump it up to 82 degrees and then tuesday some showers rolling through. wednesday we dry things out, partly sunny and cooler with a high of 70. adam will let you know if that cooling trend continues for the end of next week coming up in the full accuweather 7-day forecast, guys. >> sounds good. >> thanks cecily. >> quick break. more news when we come back. stay with us. >> ♪ >> reporter: prince's fans paying tribute. >> this morning we played purple rain. >> reporter: as police now discuss their investigation into what caused the 57-year-old to lose consciousness in an elevator at his home near minneapolis yesterday. >> cpr was initially started but was unsuccessful. he was pronounced deceased at 10:07. >> reporter: his sudden death follows a scare last week. after this concert in atlanta. >> ♪ >> reporter: on the way home, prince's private plane forced to make an emergency landing because his publicist says he fell ill with the flu. the next day, prince giving an impromptu performance trying to reassure fans. >> he said, you know, when you hear news give it a couple days before you waste any prayers. >> reporter: today those prayers and tears. >> it's unreal.

extra fire crews were brought in to help in the fight. still not clear what was inside the building or how it caught fire. no one was injured. >> from our delaware news room now, police in dover have arrested a man for an attack at a party. authorities say 23-year-old keontra hynson showed up uninvited on sunday morning. when the a man who lives there told him to leave police say lynn son pistol whipped the man and ran off. he's charged with a home invasion and assault. he's behind bars on $35,000 bond. this is toms river residents gabriel mueller. it was 15 years ago this month that she was found murdered in a wooded area in lakewood new jersey. tonight authorities are asking for your member finding her killer. mueller who was 31 at the time and the mother of two children was strangled. authorities tell "action news" the investigation is ongoing and any additional information from the public will help. also from our delaware news room surveillance video we showed you tuesday on "action news" at 5:00 has now helped police catch a

suspected package thief in new castle county. 40-year-old raymond montgomery allegedly stole packages from a front porch on greentree lane in bear. investigators say they got a lot of tips when they released this video. a call to crime stoppers is what eventually led them to montgomery. >> students in delaware are learning how to stay safe online. the beau biden foundation held a training session for students at archmere academy in claymont today. their goal was to teach students about online safety and how to avoid and prevents bullying. >> we want them to talk about the things that are going on in their school and when they're in danger in homes or on teams we want them to talk about that, too. >> in his eight years of delaware's attorney general beau biden spoke to thousands of kids about online safety and the dangers of scen cyber bullying. a dispatcher in philadelphia received a special honor. 2016 distinguished service award to takeisha taylor.

she was chosen by her coworkers and supervisors for the honor. >> in honor of. day two schools were awarded for their forward thinking environmental program and we at 6abc are proud to be part of this. for the past 10 years 6abc along with wawa and a law firm of manco gold catcher and fox have presented the awards to a pair of schools. here's meteorologist, david murphy with this year's recipients. [cheers and applause] >> reporter: the ladies of notre dame dane into mueller and villanova are excited to be recipients of the environmental community service award. the award is landed out each year to schools who are using nature programs to improve their communities. >> they have been monitoring the stream quality all year. >> reporter: project stream is a program that is studying the water quality of darby creek. >> it's really important because this is our watershed and we have to take care of it. >> reporter: students say they're enjoying giving back to their communities.

>> i wanted to study environmental science in college and i think that this is really inspired me. >> it's our environment. we all live here. we all impact it in one way or another. >> reporter: notre dame's focus was on the water. school number two's focus, the farm. winslow township middle school in atco, camden county won the award for their environmental stem course. the students were challenged to create sustainable hydroponic systems in their class gloom they have been working really hard. it is amazing. >> reporter: ryan bowie took a reading of his planter and noticed its ph levels are a bit high. >> we might need to ap adjust or nutrients. >> reporter: hydroponics are soilless and depend mainly on water. >> it's a great way of being sustainable. it doesn't require the use of excess water. it doesn't require an excess amount of land and it can can be done in someone's house. >> reporter: that's what cameron felton's parents did. >> my parents let me grow stuff outside.

>> this is a look at the currents situation in wharton texas. the houston area here is still recovering from paralyzing floods. this storm killed at least eight people and flooded more than a thousand homes. so far it's caused more than $5 billion in damage. emergency crews made more than 1200 rescues throughout the course of this disaster. a little baby left in a hot car is okay tonight thanks to the concern of two strangers. police responded tots to this new mexico parking lot after a woman called 911 and they found a screaming two month old boy in the back seat of this unlocked vehicle. investigators say it was likely 96 degrees in that car. paramedics treated the baby for fever and dehydration. his father is now charged with child abuse and endangerment. >> president obama is helping britain's queen elizabeth celebrate her big birthday. the president and first lady had lunch with the queen and prince philip at windsor castle today. the meeting comes one day after elizabeth turned 90. the obamas gave her a custom

>> segue. >> see what i did there. >> he probably said that for 25 -- >> give or take. >> i'll say it tomorrow, too. >> we need a little drink for those plants as we take a look at double scan live radar it's been fairly dry through most of the day, a little humid, on the warm side. the batch of rain that passed through cape may county has pushed off the coast but we are not near the end of a chance for some of these scattered downpours and storms. that will continue into the overnight. in fact we'll kind of increase overnight and early on saturday morning. 75 allentown reading as well as trenton. the poconos low 70's. we did hit 78 for a high in philadelphia. along the shore in the upper 60's. upper level low basically over cincinnati this is a cold pool of air that's sparking some of these downpours and thunderstorms and then with it southerly winds ahead of it pulls in moisture from the south. so we have to get this entire system through and it's moving painfully slow from the west to the east.

again, not much happening here for your friday night. 70 degrees at 8 o'clock, still very warm. 67 in the lehigh valley, 66 in millville, a spotty shower here or there. even through 11 o'clock, most areas stay dry. some activity trying to pull itself together from the poconos west of reading, even southern parts of delaware, new jersey. early in the morning 4:00 a.m. that's when you could get woken up by a rumble of thunder or a brief period of some heavy rain as that passes by and early on saturday morning. again, it's any other a washou -- not awashout but it cp in spots. in between tonight and early on saturday we're looking overall about a quarter of an inch, some areas could be less than that. some areas you could get under a thunderstorm or a quick downpour you could get maybe a half an inch of rainfall. depending on location here saturday is how quickly it clears. in you're closer towards the lehigh valley tomorrow, early clouds will give way to quick clearing and sunshine with a

temperature of 70 degrees but if you're on the flip side far to the south and east closer to the shore tomorrow, showers are going to linger there through much of the first half of the day and then maybe some bright sunny spots developing would be very late in the afternoon with a temperature at 64 degrees. then high pressure comes in for the second half of the weekend on sunday when sunshine returns for everybody. temperatures right around normal at 69 degrees and low pressure with this associated warm front draped over the great lakes, that's going to push to the north and behind this high temperatures are going to head towards summer-like levels as we begin next week. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast morning clouds and a few showers especially south of philadelphia tomorrow give way to some sun returning north to south at 73. pretty perfect here on sunday, wall to wall sunshine, upper 60's. summer-like 82 on monday. decent amount of sunshine, some clouds build in spots in the afternoon. and then another cold front comes in for the north on
