playing on her porch. friday night, jim is off. a heart breaking development in the case of a little girl caught in the cross fire. 8-year-old gabrielle was shot in the head. her father thanked supporters for their prayers. the reward leading to the gunman stands at $12,000. officers put to the streets searching for evidence, handing out flyers. they need help from you, which they are not getting. >> it's been hard to get additional information from the community. we are hoping to incentivize this. >> she was on the porch around 8:30 when a gun battle broke out. surveillance captured the moment

she was shot. police will only release it as a last resort, if they think it can help identify the shooter. a few miles away, a south jersey community is grieving victims of violence. a couple found dead in their home today. police say their son is responsible. "action news" reporter is live at the scene with what we learned about the suspect. jeff? >> reporter: monica, this is where ryan coles lives with his parents and where he brutally attacked them. sources tell "action news" he didn't have previous run ins with the law, but police were aware of his struggles with meantal illness. these are the victims of their son's rampage. police spent the day processing evidence as neighbors recall their recent interactions with the man now accused of murder. >> he seemed detached. >> we really didn't know.

i don't think the impression i had was that. >> reporter: sources say the 28-year-old may have used a chair to beat his parents to death. a relative found the couple when he checked up on them after not reaching them last night. ryan coles was home when police arrived. >> he was a good father. my great uncle. we are all shocked. >> he worked at coles music service. >> kind of in the mood. always cracking jokes. he was just, you know, happy. >> reporter: this facebook post shows a happy trip to the phillies game frr the father and son. ryan struggled with mental illness which prompted several calls to the police. >> to go from that boy on the bike to this.

that's mind boggling. >> reporter: coles has another son who was admitted to a mental health facility prior to the murders. autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow. coles is locked up on $1 million bail. jeff chirico, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, jeff. a man is in critical condition after being beaten. it happened in the 700 block of adams avenue. no word on the victim's identity. he's hispanic between the ages of 28 and 35. no word on the motive for the attack. he is in einstein medical center in critical condition. a south philadelphia man is recovering after being shocked by exposed wires on a city street. he leaned up against a pole for a moment and electricity jolted him. dann cuellar talked to the man

in the city to find out who is to blame. >> reporter: this is 27-year-old mike smith of south philadelphia. he was jogging around the neighborhood, working out, when he arrived at this pole at 20th and oregon. >> i leaned up against the pole. i tried to relax and take a break and stretch on the pole. >> reporter: suddenly, he got the shock of his life. >> i felt like somebody punched me in the back of the head. >> reporter: paramedics transported him to the hospital where he was treated for electric shot shock. he came in contact with exposed wires at the bottom of the pole and there was another light across the street with exposed wires. his father called to report the problem. who did you call? >> my father called pico. >> reporter: pico? >> yeah. >> reporter: when he noticed the problem had not been fixed, he called us. they sent a crew within minutes.

>> we had no idea the situation happened until 6abc contacted us. >> reporter: pico is not responsible, the city is. within an hour, the wires on both traffic lights were addressed and shielded the plastic covers that had been removed. >> we take this seriously. anything that harms the public. >> reporter: the city says it wants to know when the covers are broken, missing or wires exposed. the proper way to expose this is to call 311. in south philadelphia, dann cuellar, channel 6 "action news." from the delaware news room, police in wilmington are investigating the death of a man found hanging upside down from this fence. the body was found in the parking lot of a business in the 500 block of martha street. it appears the man may have tried to climb or jump the fence when his clothing, his shorts got caught. there are no signs of foul play.

it's still not known exactly how he died. another arrest has been made in a theft that targeted the men and woman who put their lives on the line for our country. stolen merchandise was intended for veterans and the items are on their way back to the right hands. bob brooks is live at the philadelphia police impound lot with the exclusive story. bob? >> reporter: monica, good evening. these suspects picked the wrong u-haul to steal. detectives made getting this stuff back to the wounded warrior project a top priority and tonight took a major step in doing so. bike pedals, helmets, tires, brake shifters and more. it's all stolen goods recovered tonight and soon. going back to the men and woman who earned it, wounded warriors. the philadelphia highway patrol made a second bust in the case. detectives say there's another

one on the way. >> we are going to get all the stuff back. the rest of the bikes back by the weekend. >> reporter: these parts, along with nine bikes were taken from the wounded warrior project earlier this month. they were set to be donated to vets. volunteers parked the u-haul for a soldier ride. in the morning, it was gone. through quick police work, four bikes were recovered in northeast philadelphia. "action news" was there for the raid. >> people are doing the right thing, i'll say that. >> reporter: after the truck was towed to the impound, the bed was open, the bike parts packed in their cases. >> very important for us. a member of the police department, it's the least i can do and our department can do. put their lives on the line to keep us free. >> reporter: back out live here, one arrest has been made in this case so far. again, we heard from detective logan, confident that at some point this weekend, the

remaining five bikes will be found. you can be sure "action news" will be there when it happens. reporting live at the police impound lot, bob brooks, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a south philadelphia woman is found guilty of animal cruelty. there is a happy ending in the story. the cat she is accused of neglecting and abusing is now thriving. this was him ten weeks ago, covered in a chemical suffering from burns. the owner was found guilty of animal cruelty, but better news here. check out lumpy now. he's a healthy, playful cat that is a favorite at the spca and looking for a good home. turning to our weather. the beginning of what will be a hot weekend and week after. if you are headed to the shore, you have more to worry about than keeping cool. we have a check of the forecast.

>> this august will be our hottest august on record and after a string of temperatures in the 80s, today, we bump it up to 93 degrees. that's nine degrees above normal and we have dew points in the 70s and 60s. right now, dew points in the upper 60s and 70s. as we head through the overnight hours, the winds out of the northwest. tomorrow amp, dew points, except for along the coast should be 50s and low 60s. that's comfortable. the coast could have dew points hovering 70 degrees. you will be getting a sea breeze at the beach. inland, we'll be in the 90s. a problem on the beach is because of this. tropical storm gaston is 1800 miles away from land. the problem is it's going to strengthen into a category one or category two hurricane. it will throw long periods of

swells toward the beach along with an on shore flow. there is a risk of rip currents increasing through the weekend. i'll have details on that. the shores of the poconos will lead eventually coming up in the full accuweather forecast. >> sounds good, thank you. the fbi requested documents from philadelphia mayor kinney's office. agents raided the homes and offices of john as well as those of city councilman bobby. they donated heavy to kinney's campaign. reports quote kinney is complying and they will comply with what's asked for. the subpoena was served shortly after the sweeping series of raids. president obama is set to visit philadelphia next month. he is coming september 13th to

campaign for hillary clinton. he will urge people to register to vote before the deadline. no word on where the president will speak. vice president president, joe biden, was in wilmington. he announced new funding for amtrak northeast corridor. the nearly $2.5 billion loan will be used to buy new trains, upgrade tracks and make improvements to platforms. it will allow amtrak to increase the seating on the train. of course biden was a long time amtrak commuter during his days in the u.s. senate. he took the train between wilmington and washington, d.c., nearly every day for more than 30 years. new jersey towns hit hard by hurricane sandy can again apply for more grant money. governor chris christie made the announcement. there's $42 million in community development disaster recovery fund. they can apply for the money monday. the deadline is october 18th.

at an airport in omaha, nebraska. a man stripped to his boxers, jumped an eight-foot fence, stole a truck and rammed it into a plane full of passengers. the truck hit the landing gear. the man was captured, restrained and taken into custody here. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the behavior. help is coming in from

mississip mississippi. the nuns were found stabbed to death. the two were nurse practitioners that served a a rural medical clinic. their home was broken into and their car found a mile away. the police department has ten officers. volunteers are coming in from other towns to help with the investigation. the governor of maine is apologizing to people of his state for leaving an obscene voice mail. it started when he was told state representative called him a racist. that prompted la page to leave the following voice mail. >> i want you to prove i'm a racist. i have spent my life helping black people and you little son of a [ bleep ] [ bleep ], you, i need you to -- i want you to record this and make it public.

the burma jungle and attack a japanese critical line to china. they met in southwest philadelphia to look through old memorabilia and shared stories from that difficult time. a local couple is sharing their secret to a happy marriage. betty and david celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary today. family members brought flowers and balloons to celebrate. betty is 96, david 99. they were married in a rabbi's study in south philadelphia in 1941. david says he still does one thing every day -- >> january 16th, 1941. she's been my love ever since. >> i remind him every day he has to say i love you. >> isn't that nice? the couple says today's celebration is bigger than the
