was wounded. southwest detectives are on the scene and according to police it all started about a half hour ago with a shot fired. police rushed to the scene. one person wounded. now the suspect is the person barricaded inside. that's all we know at this point but we will keep an eye on things and let you know as it develops throughout the evening. >> our other top story tonight is the heat and a record that stood for a hundred years was tied today. the temperature hit 94 matching the record for the hottest september 9th in a century. and officially bringing us into heat wave number seven. >> and we do have the close of yet another uncomfortably hot work week on this friday. the beginning of our weekend will be much the same. a heat advisory has been extended into tomorrow. let's go to cecily tynan for our first check of that accuweather forecast. cecily. >> monica and rick we are official in heat wave number seven. it started on wednesday, 91 degrees. yesterday 95. today so far 94 degrees and that does tie the record high set way back in 1884, a record

that stood for 132 years. now, the heat index shows you not quite as intense as yesterday. our dewpoints did drop a little bit but still it's uncomfortably warm. feels like 99 in philadelphia, feels like 100 at the atlantic city airport, 101 in dover, 102 in millville. feels like 98 degrees in lancaster. satellite6 along with action radar showing there's a cold front that's stalled up to the north and closer to it we are seeing some scattered showers breaking out in the lehigh valley. now, what will happen with that front, it will advance farther up to the north as a warm front tomorrow and that will bring back high dewpoints and high temperatures and that heat advisory has not only been extended until 7 o'clock tomorrow evening, it's also been expanded across our entire viewing area except for the immediate coastline right on the beaches you will get a little bit of a break with temperatures in the 80's there. however, future tracker showing that tomorrow

miss america pageant we decided to do a full body dip. >> reporter: there was barely a breeze to cool things off as temperatures climbed into the 90's. this couple from long island was one of the few who planned a beach day. >> it's warm in factor maybe a little bit too hot and humid but we'll be under our umbrella so it will be fine. >> reporter: on the boardwalk crews prepared for saturday's miss america show us your shoes parade. thousands from across the country are expected in ac for this weekend's pageant. as you can imagine miss alaska's dad says the heat has been a bit of a shock. >> i feel like i'm in a sauna right now, so it's nice, though. it's news. it's a big difference. big change. >> reporter: many boardwalk merchants are hoping the extra pageant visitors will be good for business. last weekend's false alarm over hurricane hermine mean led the city to pull the plug on beach concerts and hurt businesses large and small. >> canceled the concert. people not coming here. a lot of people lose. >> reporter: how much did you lose? >> i no make nothing.

country. north korea said it conducted a high level nuclear test explosion today. that is its fifth atomic test and the seconds in just eight months. the un security council secretary general is condemning the tests and is urging the council to take action. >> well, just days before the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 the house has passed a bill that would let families of victims sue the government of saudia arabia. president obama has threatened to veto it. the bill was passed by the senate back in may despite objections from the saudi government. 15 of the 19 highjackers on 9/11 were saudi nationals. the obama administration has warned that the legislation sets a dangerous press dent saying if u.s. citizens can take the saudis to court then a foreign country could in turn sue the united states. >> ♪ for the first time members of the nypd held a procession through lower manhattan. this solemn event was held to highlight the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

hundreds of officers marched to the footprints of ground zero as thousands lined the streets to watch. 71 police officers were killed when the world trade center building collapsed. dozens more have since died from illnesses contracted while working in the hazardous conditions immediately after the attack. >> communities in our area are also remembering the victims of 9/11. in wilmington this morning students at the delaware military academy laid a wreath to honor those who died that day. delaware governor jack markell commended students for carrying outtrade activities hundreds of cadets lined up to salute the flag and pay tribute to those who lost their lives. >> ♪ >> all right. turn to politics its a david and goliath matchup for an iconic local seat in congress. the second congressional district seat is vacant for the first time in years after congressman chaka fattah stepped down. coming. lawmakers have been unable to agree on a bill that sets aside money to combat the virus. >> medical marijuana programs in pennsylvania should be fully up and running by 2018. today inside philadelphia city hall the committee on public health and human services held meteorologist to talk about the implementation of the medical marijuana act. pennsylvania governor wolf signed the bill into law back in april. it will allow for qualifying patients to access the drug in pill or other forms. the city is still working out zoning and planning issues for the medical marijuana dispensaries. >> health check tonight. major television networks teaming up for the annual stand up to cancer telethon tonight. >> that's right. the all-star telecast will air at 8 o'clock on more than 60 networks including right here on 6abc. wilmington a record high of 95 trenton tying the record of 93. reading within 2 degrees of the record high. right now philadelphia 93. wilmington 90. reading that 92. millville 93. cape may, though you get the wind off the water, quite a bit more comfortable, currently 82 degrees. now, normal number of 90-degree days in an entire year 27. we now are at 44, so this means there have only been five years with more days in the 90's. the record back in 2010, remember that well, we hit 90 degrees 55 times. looks like we have a couple more days in the 90's over the next seven days. satellite6 along with action radar showing that there is a cold front, it's really stalled up to the north, but this is producing a few light showers in the lehigh valley. there is one heavier downpour right now right over copely that is just to the east of 45

we have been talking about meteorologist adam joseph outside with more on the heat advisory in effect. again a lot of folks heading to a concert tonight may want to dress in t-shirts and shorts. >> yeah, because that feels-like temperature is going to remain at or above 90 at least through 10:00 or 11:00 tonight. present number 93 in philadelphia after topping out officially just came in of 95 degrees this afternoon. that is record breaking. 90 in wilmington, right now 93 in millville and the only place beating the heat is the shore with a sea breeze in the 80's. so, with that outdoor concert, 90 at 7 o'clock, again these are just the air temperatures, does not include the humidity, so 87 at 9:00 and 11 o'clock 85. between that 10 and 11 o'clock you can expect it to feel still 90 degrees during that hour. heat advisories remain in effect through 7 o'clock tomorrow evening for basically the entire viewing area with the exception of the shore where again the heat index will soar over 100 tomorrow

there she is, died when she fell from a platform on august 24th. a medical examiner ruled her death an accident. >> well, this sunday marks 15 years since the 9/11 terror attacks. delaware county held its annual memorial service earlier today. >> ♪ law enforcement and first responders gathered in media for a wreath laying ceremony in rose tree park. they remembered all of the 9/11 victims including a pilot from glen mills and others from our area. officials also recognized a folcroft police officer christopher dorman. he received the district attorney's office order of merit for heroic actions when he was shot in the line of duty. >> it's nice to see how many people support us and people see how dangerous our job really can be at times and just nice to show support from everybody. >> reporter:. >> officer dorman is going back to work actually for the first time since he was shot back in june. >> a 59-year-old woman was robbed and assaulted while she

was waiting to cross the street in spring garden. police say the suspect seen here is running away with the victim's stolen bags last friday afternoon. the man allegedly punched the woman in the face and shoved her to the ground at broad and ridge just after she got off a septa bus. he stole her iphone bank cards keys and cash then jumped into a waiting dodge caravan and took off. a popular candy maker has started hiring replacement workers for the folks who walked off the job in bethlehem this week. just born the company he that makes marshmallow peeps is concerned about the supply of peeps for easter. they already have enough of the marshmallows to get through halloween and christmas but to continue meeting customer demand they're bringing in more workers to replace the ones on strike. nearly 400 union members are picketing over wages and benefits. >> ♪ >> turning to politics tonight ton trump and running mate mike pence are in washington, d.c. they're attending the values voter summit one of the largest gatherings of social conservatives. >> trump is promising

97 degrees at the atlantic city airport. the old record was 5 degrees lower than that. dover 96, 95 in wilmington and trenton, 95 degrees is where we topped off this afternoon. presently your heat index, the combination of the air temperature, the dewpoint 102 millville, 99 in philadelphia, 100 for the atlantic city airport. mid 90's in the lehigh valley. two areas seeing a bit of a break, one the poconos with some of those showers at 74. and cape may 87 right now. even beach haven on the sand there long beach island 95 degrees is what it feels like. there is a front to the north. this is now transitioned to a warm front meaning this is not going to work to the south. this is going back to the north so if you see a stray shower tonight it would be in those far northwestern suburbs. attached to that front is low pressure an cold front. that cold front is what's going to bring the rehe leaf but you can see it's still way to the west anywhere from green bay south of minneapolis to omaha so it will be sometime before that completely pushes through.

rick williams. the big story on "action news" tonight breaking news from west philadelphia. a police standoff continues along the 200 block of south millick street. investigators were called to the scene for a domestic disturbance at about 4:30 this afternoon. when they arrived there, they undery -- encountered an exchange of gunfire. a woman was shot. a suspect is now barricaded inside the home. police believe there are other family members inside as well. we'll continue to track the situation and have updates on air and online at 6abc.com from west philadelphia. to the record breaking home. we hit 95 at a in philadelphia breaking a record set back in 1883. the sweltering heat forced some schools to close early today and forced others to find relief. tonight we remain under a heat advisory. whether at the shore or the the city the mission was the same, finding ways to keep cool as the mercury climbed
