she was hit repeatedly but survived mainly because she was wearing a bulletproof vest. and we spoke to jessie hartnett who was ambushed this past january as seen in this surveillance video. hartnett recently underwent his ninth surgery hopes to return to the job. >> something that i always wanted to do, and to have it taken away from me gives me the extra push to get back. i hope i can go back, i don't want to be retired. >> meanwhile after a bloody rampage, commissioner ross referred to as one of the most violent acts he has seen in some time. >> it's nothing short of miraculous that she is here to receive this warm welcoming and it's like this and not at a gravesite. >> nicholas glen's rampage ended

with one person dead. glen was cornered and shot and killed. >> walter thank you. bombing suspect ahmad rahami was on the fbi's radar two years ago. rahami's father alerted the feds expressing his concerns that his son may be a terrorist. he later recanted saying his son was hanging out with the wrong crowd. and they disclose that rahami was captured he had a notebook with extremist ramblings with him. he is charged with the attempted murder of police officers in the shootout that led to his capture, held on 5$5.2 million bail and the flow of information flowed seamlessly to make a quick arrest. >> along with information that comes from the community, we saw it yesterday. that tip came from the community and information flowed and an arrest was made.

the k-9 unit is currently under investigation for allegedly bringing a prostitute into the unit's headquarters on state street. >> the fact of the matter is, i will not tolerate any activities conducted in my office that my officers are involved in that is going to reflect poorly on this city or on this police department. >> sources say that a member of the k-9 unit is alleged to have brought a prostitute into the building surrounded by a chain link fence concealing her identity from cameras mounted outside but her presence was captured on cameras inside of the building and several of the k-9 officers knew about the prostitute's presence. >> are the officers involved on active duty or desk duty. >> i can't even go into that right now. >> search warrantses were executed to extract evidence. and acting prosecutor, would not

talk specifics. >> it's the office policy not to comment on any internal affairs investigation that may be going on but something could be forthcoming. >> in the meantime, the k-9 unit is locked up while the investigation continues. live in trenton, i'm nora muchanic, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a philadelphia teacher is under investigation tonight after the video surfaced online showing him physically fighting with a student. you can see the two purging and kicking each other and at one point the student is put in a head lock, and it unfolded in lincoln high school, the argument started after the student was late to class and students say the teacher tried to call security and the phones did not work and went to another classroom but was confronted in the hallway. >> he pushed him and pushed him back a bit. >> the goal is to get to the

bottom of this, to make sure this doesn't happen in the future. >> the teacher had to get stitches and police charged the student with assault. the two women seen in this video were using stolen credit cards, the video from the wawa on aramingo avenue, was recorded less than an hour after reporting her wallet stolen. it was taken from her purse when she was at the oyster house restaurant on the night of august 5th. a delaware high school is celebrating a big award, the school will receive $10 million from a national contest given by a famous widow. vernon odom has the story. >> reporter: miss wick's design class at design high, one of the most unique charter schools in the nation, 300 students are here mostly from the newark

area, high income to homeless all chosen after interviews to assess their motivations and quest for learning. the school was awarded $10 million to help rethink american high schools which is chaired by the widow of apple computer founder, steve jobs. >> it's it's design thinking process used in businesses more and more and they learn how to identify a problem and how to generate possible solutions. >> and we use process based learning and they don't like the tradition feel how schools were set up. and it's mostly textbook work. >> now in the second year of operation, is one of only ten schools chosen to get the $10 million grant. that is out of 700 schools in all that apply.

>> life at 10 other schools that stretch from washington, d.c. to oakland california, this school will be under a microscope as experts assess how all the innovative experiments pan out. >> it's hands on. >> our media classes are letting us choose what kind of art or media you want to do and you can focus on that. >> it's funded by the state government and the nine other schools getting the $10 million award are split between charter and traditional public schools. i'm vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." philadelphia city leaders gave an update on the renovation project at love park today. the mayor unveiled an inactive rendering of the new welcome center allowing visitors to picture themselves at the location. cash and building materials is being donated for the location and it's expected to be completed next spring.
