about leaving her husband for neal schon. >> our relationship was very controlled by tarik. anyone that watched the show or even spent 24 hours with us knew where i had come from and what i had been through. there wasn't a time in -- that's one of things through "the real housewives" they joked about that they couldn't get to have lunch without him right there. >> she stars in a new music video for the journey song "resonate." the video is of -- video was released monday. same date tareq salahi filed a $50 million lawsuit against neal schon claiming emotional distress and other issues. investigators are tracing whitney houston's prescription drugs to figure out what caused her untimely death. houston was found unresponsive in the bathtub at her beverly hilton hotel saturday afternoon. investigators are checking with houston's doctors and pharmacies about the drugs found at the scene.
11:38 am
though they say there was not an unusual amount of pills. health experts say if someone are were to talk a variety of drugs and alcohol it can stop them from breathing. and investigators are still waiting for the toxicology results to determine the cause of her death. meanwhile houston's family will have a private funeral saturday in newark, new jersey, in her hometown church where she sang in the gospel choir. houston's sudden death shocked fans all over the world this weekend. and as we have been reporting, substance abuse may have contributed to her death. dr. joshua joins us this morning with more on struggling with addiction and the growing problem of prescription drugs used at the same time one might use alcohol. good morning. >> good morning. >> talk with us about the drugs reportedly found in houston's room and how these drugs could have potentially led to her death. >> reportedly the drugs or medications that were found in her room were lorazepam, xanax, valium. these are all in the class of
11:39 am
medications that are used to treat anxiety problems. these medications in and of themselves if you take whopping amounts of them can have some respiratory suppression. what i think is more likely is that potentially she took more of these than she should have and could it cause you to basically pass out. and then if you pass out she was in a bathtub and could have fallen under the water and then so out of it her body didn't wake up from that or she could have combined it with alcohol which has another added effective in terms of central nervousness depression and can cause you to stop breathing. >> tell us what are these drugs generally prescribed for? >> so, they are generally prescribed for anxiety and very helpful medications. i prescribe these frequently in my practice. you have to be very careful in the patients you put them on and really want to be cautious about using them and anyone that had a history of addiction because these medications can be easily abused for misused. the thing that surprised me when i heard about whitney houston
11:40 am
was that she had three different on site in her hotel room. that's really unreasonable. there's really no reason why somebody should have three of these medications when one on two would suffice. >> could they check to see if they were all from the same physician? >> yes. when you get a -- when you get a prescription, at least in virginia and most other states, prescription bought local have on the label patient's name and doctor's name as well. they can track that down. >> would that be then an offense by the physician to prescribe three different drugs that do the same thing? >> well, potentially it could be an offense by the physician. they would have to review medical records to find if there is any rationale behind it and also to see if that physician had gone through the necessary measures to check and make sure there wasn't any abuse. they have something called a prescription monitoring program in most states where doctors can pull up information about the medications somebody is taking. so you can see if the patient is doing something called doctor shopping where they are seeing multiple doctors to get the same type of medication for abusing purpose. >> we know that whitney houston
11:41 am
apparently went through rehab. what's the typical success rate of rehab for people who have had drug abuse problems? >> success rate with going into rehab one time is not very high. a lot of times people are going into rehab the first time is because their family wants them to get the help. the real key rests on the person's motivation and true desire finally ready to get themselves clean. and then they need to make absolute lifestyle changes. you can't just go into a rehab for 30, 60, 90 days, come out and feel like you are cured and can go back to your old ways. you need to change who you are hanging out with and change your lifestyle and really need to make the addiction one of your primary focuses. >> we thank you for answering those questions. lot of people sometime wondering so much about what is going on. you are going to be answering our viewers' questions. he is a psychiatrist and can answer anything on questions from depression, child behavior problems, addiction issues.
