the first state in the whole country to approve same-sex marriage at the ballot box. in d.c., bruce leshan, 9news now. >> the d.c. high school student who shot a fellow chases mate is being tried as an adult. brandon smothers appeared in front of the supreme court yesterday. the district says he will be held until he appears in court next week. smothers shot another student on wednesday. that victim did suffer some life threatening injuries. a six hour standoff between police and an armed man in pittsburgh finally came to an end this afternoon. the whole thing began when kline michael saxton took a hostage at gunpoint and held him on the 16th floor of a pension administration firm. he claimed to have explosives. police cleared out the building when family members and friends came to the scene, saxton surrendered. >> the negotiators were very

successful in keeping the line of communication open. no one was injured. no life was taken. >> he recently wrote on facebook that it was all over and he had lost everything. friends pleaded with him through social media to surrender. starting monday, new yorkers will see a controversial ad popping up in their subway system. the person behind that ad has now launched a legal fight to place it here, in our metro. the ad reads, in any war between the civilized man and the savage support the civilized man. support israel, defeat jihad. behind it, gellar, she's with a group. some call her ad antimuslim. gellar disagrees. >> honestly, anyone that disagrees with me, i would take a bullet for their right to disagree with me. this is the beauty of america. the free exchange of ideas. >> throughout our history, there are people that engaged in hate speech. this is just the next generation.

we have all seen clint eastwood's empty chair act by now. but another empty chair act down in texas has a few people screaming racism. a man in austin, texas, taped an american flag to a metal chair and hung it from a branch of a tree with a rope. and some neighbors say it resembles lynching and they find it offensive. johnson says you got me all wrong. >> what made you decide to take it down, if you don't mind me asking. >> it had nothing to do with racism. nothing. >> when you put up a chair in your lawn with a rope around it, you're sending a message. >> as you heard, johnson did take the display down. the travis county democratic party denounced the display and called on republicans to do the same thing. the white supremacyst group, area nation, planning to march for tomorrow in southeast d.c. and as surae chinn reports, neighbors are outraged about that march and they've

making this happen. made him smile. forget about his treatment for a while, that's magical. >> absolutely. what better gift can you give to a four-year-old. >> absolutely. we were just getting used to this great weather and you put a crimp in the program. >> we have a cold front tomorrow. it's going to bring showers and storms. the forecast looks pretty good. let's take a look outside right now. you can see the weather cam is in the clear. beautiful weather out there at the moment. you probably noticed that it's a little bit more humid today than it has been the past couple of days. current temperature is 75 degrees with just a few clouds. that dew point at 61 right now. winds out of the southeast. bringing in that more humid air mass. a look at our temperatures all around the region. right now it's only 70 degrees in winchester. but we are still sitting at 75 downtown. 70 in andrews at the air force base and 74 degrees in

hagerstown. so those temperatures aren't going to fall quite as quickly overnight tonight as they have been because of the higher dew points holding on to some of that heat that we got during the day. today it feels like summer. tomorrow definitely. we're going to have that summer- like feel in the forecast. there's a cold front on the way. that's going to bring us showers and storms as we head through the day tomorrow and then it will turn very fall- like behind that cold front. so if you like the fall-like weather, you have something to look forward to in our forecast. here's a look at satellite and radar. we have the showers and thunderstorms moving through the midwest. this cold front is going to continue to slice toward us and we will see that threat for showers and storms developing as early as about dinner time in the d.c. metro area and possibly even a little bit earlier than that in some of the areas to our west. let's say the blue ridge and through the areas of the appalachians. you can see the increase in cloud cover. as we head toward the noontime

hour and dinner time, more of those showers and storms erupting. you can see along the beltway, we'll see showers and storms. the concentration of moisture appears to be to our south. now this isn't the only line of showers and storms. another one looks to arrive as we head into the overnight hours on saturday. heading into early sunday morning. but by the time we wake up on sunday, a noticeable change in the air mass t. will be breezy and it will be dryer as well as cooler. all right, so overnight tonight, we're going to see mostly clear skies, not as cool, though it is humid out there than what we have been enjoying. 55 to 63 for your overnight lows continuing at 5 to 10 miles per hour. still be mostly sunny tomorrow morning, but it will start to get warmer and more humid with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. and then tomorrow, partly cloudy and warm with showers and maybe even a thunderstorm by dinner time. 79 to 85 degrees for your afternoon highs with those winds becoming southwesterly at

health experts in britain say painkillers could be the cause of your headaches. tina cross reports. >> victoria saxton suffered from migraines for years. for a long time, she tried to manage the pain on her own with over the counter painkillers. >> and they work at first. you take more and more. i started taking them like they were candy. >> it turns out, she was making her pain worse. doctors diagnosed her with what's called a medication over use headache. >> about 50% of people actually go and get the diagnosis because they think their doctor will send them away, saying it's just a headache. >> british health experts say patients who take over the counter painkillers including aspirin and ib profin could be causing their headaches. the national institute is urging doctors to take a closer look at whether painkillers could be hurting their
