dod is being sued. they say the dod doesn't recruit enough women and won't release records about the practices which it is required to make public. they focus on recruiting at the army naval, and air force academys. we left a message for them. a virginia woman is facing up to eight years in prison for lie together fbi about her support for isis. heather kaufman pleaded guilty yesterday. police arrested her last year after following her to months due to suspicious facebook posts with possible connections to isis. she'll be sentenced in may. 4:33 now. under ground emergency crews fixed another problem. montgomery fire crews found they could not communicate with one

today the next steps are happening in a plan to bring more business to aspen hill. if you live near or drive by aspen hill road you may have seen a vacant building there. they want to use the place for new stores. the county council will hold a hearing on the plan today. supporters say they're excited about the idea of new businesses. critics say they don't want a big box store like walmart in the area. you might not be getting the right amount of sleep.

sleep experts come up with a list of recommended sleep times as a result of a study on various age groups. for example, a newborn, up to three months should get between 14 to 17 hours of sleep a day. that's what they do! a young adult age between 18 and 25 should get 7 to 9 hours of sleep. this is the first time any professional organization has developed age-specific recommended sleep durations. that makes sense. the younger you are the more sleep you need. toddlers need more sleep. you come school age require less sleep. >> what about us? >> i think we need 7 to 9. we're not getting it. >> yeah. >> last time i saw 9 hours -- right. >> 4:41. if you're groggy when you step outside this morning. let's say you're near the water. >> pretty. >> it is pretty but the cold air, boy, it's going to hit you

burning head to toe as they ran from the building. you're looking at video from the scene in perth. two in critical condition. the explosion happened as an electric generator was being installed in the supermarket at the mall. they don't know if the blast was connected to recent power outage in the area. >> angie goth thank you. we're learning about two new suspected cases of measles in nevada. one suspected carrier is an elementary school. the letter will be sent to the entire school notifying them of the possible exposure u. the second case is not related to the school district but coworkers may be impacted. we're waiting for the test results to confirm the cases. as we learn of more cases of the measles, the debate over mandatory vaccinations is spreading. tracie potts is live on capitol hill this morning with what lawmakers are saying about this issue. >> reporter: good morning. this is getting political. we're hearing from current and

possibly future washington politicians on whether or not they think parents should have the final say on whether or not their kids get the measles vaccine. this outbreak which started in california at disney land and spread to more than cdc says 102 in 14 different states is taking on a political tone. you heard president obama in the "today" show interview says yes parents should vaccinate their kids that the science is clear. chris christie said that parents need to have choice and he clarified in his office clarified that yes, he supports vaccines but he also thinks that some parental choice needs to be involved in this. and new morning, hillary clinton, we're hearing from hear as well, she tweeted as she put it the earth is round, the sky is blue and vaccines work. so lots of politics now mixed in whether or not the measles ss ss

last year two 18-year-olds were shot outside of the zoo on easter monday. that prompted the zoo to review the security measures. today prince george's county skools figuring how to discipline a teacher that they say say attacked a teacher. this was the teacher punched in class last week. the school said the teacher said something the student misinterpreted. parents told us the comment was racially charged. >> if the comment was made that i was told was made i could understand the pain and the anger that was incited in that student. >> the teacher was treated and okay today. the school district is working to find out exactly what happened. it is 4:48. today we'll see new data on the state of mental health in the u.s. the release is timed with a launch of a kennedy center for mental health policy.

monster. a warm furry coat. or a groundhog. we have good weather for driving. the drive time forecast all green lights this morning. at least as far as the driving conditions are concerned. stop for the red lights. look at the dry pavement. that's the way it's looking throughout the day today. we'll have dry road for the morning commute. cold though. you need to have the heat on. we'll have temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in the metro area. dry roads for the an commute and lots of sunshine. temperatures right now around the region are hovering just near 20 degrees in montgomery county as well as prince george's county. all below freezing shenandoah valley and the mountains. most locations are in the low 20s. look at oakland it's only 5 above zero there. near the bay it's a little bit milder. in the upper 20s this morning. and windchill temperatures these are our windchills. feels like 5 degrees in gaithersburg now with the breeze that is kicking up.

it's in the upper single digits in much of loudoun and fairfax county. right now single digit windchills as well in prince george's county. the winds are blowing around 15 to 20 miles per hour. these are windchill temperatures likely of 8:00 a.m. this morning. going forward windchills by noontime they'll be a little bit better. it will be in the mid 20s as temperatures up around 30 or so. during the afternoon mid and upper 30s windchills will be just 20s to around 30. the winds will be gradually diminishing throughout the day. i took this photograph a couple of days ago of a gorgeous sunrise. this was in northern montgomery county. post your pictures on facebook and twitter. i share those on instagram as well. and now as we look at the wonderful photograph this is another great photograph. this was taken in paris, virginia over the weekend by lloyd ferguson. he posted that on twitter. tomorrow after we get through the cold day we'll rebound. roller coaster ride near 50 tomorrow afternoon.
