hampshire primary. disappointed but not done. joe jacoby is passed over for the hall of fame. what's next? is . it's been a mess on the bw parkway for hours now. we sent you a breaking news alert about the investigation and now we know what snarled traffic on the parkway near riverdale road. news 4's dar darcy spencer join now with the news. darcy? >> reporter: we are live on riverdale road. this is one of the ramps to the bw parkway behind me. the parkway reopened within the last hour by i'm told there may be residual delays. we tried to get video of the scene but it was difficult because of the layout of the parkway. this was the closest we could get. police activity on 295 north

between good lock road and route 410. park police tell us an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on the parkway about 6:45 this evening. the driver was apparently swerving. the driver, believed to be a man, then pulled over on to the shoulder but then police say he shot and killed himself before the officer was able to make contact with him. the death investigation shut down the northbound lanes of the parkway for more than four hours. the southbound lanes were also slowed down because of this investigation. >> yeah, i was stuck for about 45 minutes, just had to take a detour, they shut the ramp down so we're trying to get back up to pennsylvania. so now we're affected. we're going to have to reroute all the way around to get to 695 and go up 83. >> reporter: park police are continuing the investigation,

we want to go back to breaking news on the bw parkway. all northbound lanes of the parkway are back open after being shut down for hours, snarling traffic, park police say somebody committed suicide in a vehicle near riverdale road. a police officer noticed the car was swerving and tried to stop the vehicle. that's when the driver pulled over to the shoulder and shot himself. a flagrant violation of united nations security council rules. that's how secretary of state john kerry is describing today's rocket launch by north korea. and south korea's defense minister boarded a destroyer ship working to gather information on the launch.

launches like these are seen as crucial steps toward north korea's ultimate goal of having nuclear-armed long range missiles. north korea's leader kim jong-un has overseen two nuclear tests and three long-range missile tests since taking office. convicted domestic abusers could get their guns taken away if a new bill becomes law in maryland. senator jamie raskin, a democrat from montgomery county says he plans to introduce the bill this year. it would require courts to order abusers to hand over their firearms to federally licensed arms dealers. more than a dozen states have strengthened laws to keep firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers. a batting is brewing over protected bike lanes in the eastern part of d.c. it was a packed house in the shaw neighborhood as d-dot went over several options for a new north-south route. it would run on fifth, sixth and ninth street between new york

the overnight. we have snow and rain monday night. everybody's been talking about that already so that's what we'll dive into. also cold air headed our way. speaking of chilly air. look at this, our average high is 45 degrees. look at these temperatures. all next week temperatures will be below normal. we won't get out of the 30s in a lot of spots so be prepared for that. right now temperatures are in the 30s. 36 in d.c., 32 in leesburg, 34 in gaithersburg. overnight temperatures falling into the 20s. tomorrow just in spots like how we had this morning, mainly because we have clear skies, we're clearing out nicely and we'll have sunshine tomorrow even though we've got this coastal system, that's going to head out to sea and miss us completely. could bring a few clouds to southern maryland so that might be the area that could see cloud cover tomorrow. this is our system we're watching coming through for

monday night into tuesday. will end up over the ohio valley as we go into monday afternoon, monday night and again spreading snow in here and some rain. looks to start off as rain as early as late afternoon monday then our temperatures drop. it will transition to a little snow we could have dry periods and periodic snow through the day on tuesday so that's why we'll lower totals a bit. not looking at that much. inches not feed. and there's still uncertainty but doug and amelia, we'll have you covered so tune into channel 4, they'll update you on the latest information and we'll get closer to it, the picture will become more clear. question know it will be high-impact snow is even though it's a couple inches because a couple inches around d.c. is enough to halt traffic. a high impact event for traffic and travel tuesday into wednesday morning. tomorrow morning, you won't have to worry about much except that it's chilly but we'll warm up, temperatures nearing 50 degrees on sunday so not looking too
