basement of one of the townhomes in the 1800 block of windjammer way. you can see from these pictures, extensive damage done. we know that many families were displaced. news4 is on the scene now getting word that the fire chief is expected by 7:00 a.m. to update the situation and give us information on what possibly caused the fire. kristin wright headed to the scene. she'll have a live report. we just got word from d.c. fire that the person who died in a fire on sedgwick street northwest was a man. fire officials tell us he was the only person in that home. in the video, you can see the fire extended on to the second floor, and on to the roof as well. we're working to find out how this fire started. right now in loudoun county, virginia power has resolved a power outage. when we first reported this outage last night, 23,000

call had to wait 28 minutes for a d.c. ambulance, even though a private ambulance was nearby. in the day ahead, there will be a vigil for a 15-year-old boy killed at the deanwood metro station. yesterday, 17-year-old maurice bellamy carried in court charged with killing washington. the shooting happened while washington, his mother and would sisters were waiting for a train over the weekend. bellamy asked washington why he was looking at him, washington said, what, and bellamy shot him twice in the chest. >> i couldn't believe that the kid -- that it was a kid, just looking -- around the same age of my grandson. i just couldn't believe it. >> now, the murder was captured on tape by metro security cameras. police compared the pictures of the gunman to a database of juvenile offenders and that is what led them to bellamy. the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult. now, to

the fire is out but several people don't have anywhere to go. the flames spread across five rowhouses in brooklyn last night. you can see the flames raging here, black smoke filling the night sky. >> 11 people were hurt including a firefighter. one of the people was seriously hurt. it took firefighters more than an hour to get the fire under control. it's not clear how the fire started. a firen

man's body found in the debris in the basement after firefighters believed everyone was accounted for. let me tell you what's happening right now. it's time for the investigation. that's what you see happening. just the beginning at this point. the fire ripped through this townhouse, the one in the middle and the man was found in debris. this was a big fire in windjammer road in woodland hills. here's what it looks like from above. this is a chopper view from above. and the fire, a lot of flames, as you see, just a lot of fires. firefighters say the fire was set by gas and that makes it harder to fight. fortunately, a smoke alarm did alert the upstairs residents and firefighters rescued two neighbors. firefighters were able to get the fire under control just after midnight. and that is when they found the man's body in the basement. again, firefighters initially believed that everyone was accounted for in the townhome here. and then around midnighhe

insecure. and now to information on the terror attack in brussels. belgium investigators looking for one suspect in the attack that happened a week ago. this morning, authorities are reducing the death toll. officials had previously said 35 people had been killed not including the three suicide bombers. they now say the number is 32. meanwhile, 44 people are still in the hospital recovering from their injuries. muslims in our area are taking a stand against terrorism. many held a vigil in dupont circle last night to show solidarity with the victims of the deadly bombing in pakistan. the group sent us these photos. they also say they condemn all acts of senseless violence. the vigil came after a deadly attack on easter sunday. thousands of people were rounded up in pakistan yesterday. no one was arrested though. a playground in pakistan was bombed. more than 70 people killed there, about half of them were children. the taliban has claimed responsibilities for that attack. the man accused

an egyptairplane that he threatened to blow up is now heading to jail. seif elden mustafa is charged with hiding explosives and kidnapping. he'll be detained eight days in cyprus. prosecutors said he had explosives on that belt yesterday. it turned out to be a lie. no one was hurt. this morning, a former redskins defensive lineman is facing charges of domestic violence. george starke was arrested at the w hotel monday night. he was charged with assault after a woman said he hit her in the face. you can find the story on the nbc washington app or share it on the facebook page. a fire in d.c. seriously damaged a house and displaced a family last night. this happened on hartford street southeast at the intersection of alabama avenue. d.c. fire said no one was hurt. it's been 15 years, but this morning, we have a surprising new development in a virginia murder investigation.

and the court overturned the original convention. wolfe remains in prison awaiting a new trial until his guilty plea. dulles national back to normal after police had to evacuate the main terminal. around 5:00 yesterday afternoon, police canine found an unattended item in a baggage claim area. about 90 minutes later, they cleared the bag and let employees and passengers back inside. the evacuation affected check-in counters at seven airlines. there were others as well not sure how many related to that security scare. this morning, the suspect from monday's shoot rege mains in the hospital in critical condition. larry dawson is a pastor from tennessee. capitol police said dawson pointed a pellet gun at security officers inside the visitors center. the capitol police shot him once he's released from the

superior court on two charges. meanwhile, we're learning that u.s. capitol police asked congress for more money less than a month before monday's shooting for extra officers and security posts. the aye hd team has been investigating security threats on capitol grounds. cal top police asked for an additional $35 million next year. one agency official told the senate, we want to keep the fights outside the buildings and identify threats before they enter the buildings. the report was filed three weeks before monday's shooting in the lockdown at the visitors center. the ied 0 team has learned that the agency also wanted to add more check points inside the buildings and garages. >> it's the challenge that we face throughout the country. the unknown threat, whether it's an organized effort, or whether it's the individual, we always have to be cognizant of the threat environment. >> congress must decide by the end the year whether to give u.s. capol

95. a consumer alert this morning. it doesn't matter how much you spend on a car, the price tag is no guarantee for good h headlights. "consumer reports" susan hogan has the details. >> consumer report for highway safety tested and rated headlights of 2016 midsize cars. the independent testing group evaluated the headlights after dark. and out of 31 car, only one was rated good and that was the toyota prius v. all of the rest didn't do as well. the institute measured lights from both low and high beams, while cars traveled straight and on various curves. prius v scored best with l.e.d. lights. those headlights are only available to consumers who purchase the advanced technology package. and don't think the more you spend always
