"first at 4," our affiliate in richmond is reporting at least six people shot at a greyhound bus station. state police say two of those shot are state troopers and another is a female. those three have been taken to vcu medical center for treatment, but we don't know the extent of those injuries. police say the shooter is in custody. it's not clear if officers shot that suspect. that bus station is on one of richmond's busiest streets right across the street from the city's minor league baseball stadium. again, six shot at the greyhound bus station in richmond. two of them are state troopers. the suspect is in custody. we will continue to update you on our nbc washington app. back to you. right now the search is on for a newspaper contract worker accused of stabbing someone at a crowded metro station. >> police say they know who he

a man was stand at the addison road station in capitol heights and prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins has been working this story all day. >> reporter: this is one of those guys who hands out the free washington post express paper as you're heading into the metro, usually very friendly, gives you the paper and you keep on going. well, this is the guy who metro police believe stand a commuter on his way into the train station. it happened just over that way. you can see there's now a metro transit police officer car there, and they are still continuing their investigation and trying to track down this paper man. here is what it looked like earlier today. now, we're told that when this happened it was very crowded, just before 9:00 a.m. here is how a metro spokesperson is describing it. >> they get into an altercation that escalates to physical and on the sidewalk behind us here the suspect tackled the victim and ended u

panhandle of west virginia, that rain not hitting the ground. the air just too dry. tonight only some isolated showers out there. we're at 73 degrees right now. still around 70 at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 still mild with a temperature of 68. tonight pretty quiet. tomorrow we will be tracking some rain at tilmes and even a few thunderstorms. there is the potential for high winds that could produce isolated wind damage and a low to moderate threat of heavy rain. in ten minutes lauryn will be tracking the rain and storms tomorrow hour by hour with what you can expect in your neighborhood, chris. >> thanks, amelia. amelia was talking about rain, heavy rain and flash flooding has been slamming parts of little rock, arkansas. the rising water swamped a college parking lot submerging some of the vehicles, and firefighters had to get out there and conduct some water rescues as well. three people had to hang onto trees after the water pushed their car over a bridge but crews were able to pull them down to safety. severe weaer

through oklahoma. a tornado touched down there in tulsa last night. seven people reportedly taken to hospitals with injuries. the storm produced some powerful wind and heavy hail. the leaders of 50 nations are in town for the nuclear security summit. they're here to find ways to reduce the world's nuclear stockpile. president obama met with leaders of several asian countries to discuss north korea's latest nuclear test and missile launches. just as high on the agenda this year, keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. there are rising concerns terror groups are trying to make dirty bombs. well, our storm team4x 4 is near the convention center. it's a secure zone, that means lots of road closuclosures, par restrictions, and eight-foot fences. there is also limited pedestrian traffic. the summit affecting drivers,

connecticut avenue. also closed though on metro, mt. vernon square. that station closed through friday. the line is running but you have to use shaw or gallery place as a stop instead. i'll see you tomorrow morning on news4 today. a man is in a fairfax county jail this afternoon after leading police on a pursuit that stretched from chain bridge road through route 29 in fairfax. police tell us they tried to pull the car over and the driver refused to stop. they followed the car along route 29 until they were able to force him over. we're still working to find out who he is and why they were trying to pull him over in the first place. a scary discovery on a school bus in loudoun county. a mysterious explosive device. news4's chris gordon has the story from ashburn. >> reporter: yesterday during routine maintenance, an explosive device was discovered on the exterior on one of the school buses. now, last week was school br,

allowed a federal agency to conduct a drill using bomb sniffing dogs at briar woods high school. on monday and tuesday of this week, the students were transported on the same bus where the explosive device was still on board. >> one, it is in a benign state, which means it has no blasting caps or electronic triggering devices on it. it is a safe substance. >> reporter: ahead at 5:00, loudoun county public schools wants to know how the protocol broke down allowing an explosive device to remain on a school bus that later carried students. back to you. >> all right. good questions, chris. here in d.c., thousands of you work in federal buildings, but there's a new report out that questions just how secure they are. we're in for spring storms. amelia and lauryn are monitoring. it's a line of showers and storms approaching our area. they'll have more "first at 4."

we could have isolated spots through the overnight and into the morning. some thunderstorms possible tomorrow. we'll keep a chance for rain and possibly some thunderstorms as we continue into friday afternoon and friday evening. more rain on saturday but another thing, we've got windchills in the 20s by sunday morning. amelia will have your forecast on that coming up. >> all right, lauryn. it's not a done deal yet but state officials in virginia are optimistic about the future for express lanes between i-395 and the d.c. line. the state secretary of transportation provided updates on major road projects at a meeting with local elected leaders this morning. they also talked about plans to extend express lanes south on i-95. when it's all done in 2021, virginia will have an 84-mile-long express lane network. the improvements aren't just for folks commuting by car but also for buses, trains, and car pooling as well.

report is warning of serious security risks at federal buildings, not only in our area but around the nation. the report says the general services administration doesn't properly keep track of building passes that are issued to get in and out of a lot of these buildings. these are for employees, visitors, contractors, and the report says too many of them are subject to identity fraud, tampering, and counterfeiting. the gsa operates more than 9,000 buildings nationwide, and in response to this report, gsa says it's already started to tighten up the way it handles those passes. more choices at lunchtime. how chipotle could be mixing things up as it recovers from that damaging e. coli outbreak. and after this month's unprecedented metro shutdown, a lot of you have been asking if it could happen again. narrator: all that political mail might be overwhelming. let's simplify. only one candidate has been endorsed by the washington post:

us that the suspect admitted to sexually abusing this 6-year-old girl when he was arrested on monday. this all happened in the parking lot behind us here. a mother came here to pick up two day workers to help break down some furniture inside her home, but police say while that could be the cheaper pay to go, it's extremely dangerous. it was last wednesday evening when montgomery county police say two workers were picked up from the parking lot of this 7-eleven along north frederick road. 44-year-old jose compos gonzalez was in a bed breaking down furniture when he inappropriately touched a 6-year-old girl. after they left, the child told the mother what happened and she called 911. >> it is not i will lee but it's not the best practice. when you hire somebody to come into your home, you have no idea who is coming to your home. you don't know what the background is. >> reporter: now, police are asking anyone with information about this suspect to contact them right

victims out there. coming up at 5:00, the mother of the 6-year-old takes us inside the home and she tells us exactly how this was able to happen when she is just feet away. >> meagan fitzgerald. thank you, meagan. the words of a fairfax county police officer on trial for murder may come back to haunt him. prosecutors will be allowed to tell jurors who adam torres said before and after the deadly shooting of john gear in august of 2013. witnesses say he was shot while his hands were in the air. police were called to his house for a domestic dispute. torres says he wondered whether he fired out of anger over his own marital trouble but quickly concluded the shooting was justified. torres' murder trial begins april 18th. wow. that's hail. right now folks along the

assessing the damage from a heavy hail storm. it pounded vehicles and homes and covered the ground yesterday. the video we're showing su from the town of coffeyville, kansas. large section of the south are expecting even more severe weather today which sort of puts our own wind and rain in somewhat perspective. >> are we getting some of that? >> we are but it's not going to be that severe in any sense. you want to have the bigger umbrella handy tomorrow. there could be some thunderstorms if we do see them bubble up, mainly we'll be worried about gusty winds and some heavy rain. a very low threat of hail, and really not seeing the chance for a tornado here. so your first weather headline, some rain at times tomorrow. we'll get in on limited sunshine. one of those days in washington where the weather will feature a little bit of everything. on saturday it will be cooler and the chance of some showers, especially through the midday

metro's general manager is trying to reassure riders after word leaked that parts of the system could be closed for months. paul wiedefeld wants riders to know he is working on a long-range maintenance plan. it will be ready in four to six weeks. he said in a message to

the long-term maintenance plan. severe turn lance forced an american airlines plane to make an emergency landing in little rock. flight 3355 was headed to memphis from dallas yesterday when it encountered some pretty rough weather. the ride was so rough it sent a beverage cart flying in the air spilling and tearing the side of the seat. >> this guy behind me, he's saying, are we going down? are we going down? and he goes i got kids. and this husband and wife sitting behind me, and i look back and i said, sir, i said i promise you, this aircraft is 100% safe and everything is fine. >> two flight attendants were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the remaining passengers were put on another flight. tonight, you could weigh in on a plan to make some parking changes in reston town center.

and back to that breaking news we are following in richmond. nbc's pete williams has learned one state trooper is now dead at that shooting at a greyhound bus station. pete tells us that the troopers were just conducting a narcotics training operation in the station. that ended. they disbursed throughout the station and were just talking to people. one man that this trooper was just talking with suddenly pulls out a gun and starts shooting and shoots the trooper. police say it does not appear to be an act of terrorism. that suspect is in custody. five otherop

temperatures out there right now, boy, is it warm. we made it into the lower 70s today. thank goodness for that southerly wind. that helped to bump us up quite a bit into the 70s and we're not going to fall too far tonight. if you're driving out and about, it's still going to be breezy, temperatures in the low 70s. right around 70 degrees between 7:00 and 8:00. showers possible. isolated chances of showers. but it is going to be breezy so make sure you have that steering wheel held tight. wind gusts up into the 30s and that's the way it will be during the overnight as well. clouds pushed in. we had a little veiled sunshine out there this morning. clouds continued to move into the region and that's what we're looking at. cloudy conditions right now. we're not seeing any rain on our radar. you may be able to see it from the nbc washington app. it's a different resolution but it's not falling. we're just too dry. it's not hitting that surface. so we've got some rain possible tonight but just some scattered showers or some isolated showers i should say as we go
