the bus station will remain closed for the rest of the day. back to you, doreen. >> thank you, pat lawson muse. new charges tonight against a tennessee man who was shot by police at the capitol this week. larry dawson faces charges of resisting and assault of a federal police officer. court documents say he passed through a metal detector twice before that shooting on monday. both times it alerted that he had metal near his waist. the documents say that when police wanded him, dawson pulled a bb gun and pointed it at the officer. they say he was shot twice when he refused orders to put the gun down. the charges against him carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. donald trump here in washington today to meet with his foreign policy team, but his day also included a surprise stop at the headquarters of the republican national committee. a source with the rnc told nbc news that the agenda included party unity and other subjects. that meeting comes as trump is facing new stres

station today after police say a newspaper vendor stabbed a metro rider. some witnesses and security camera video from the addison road station are giving police a clear picture of what happened. prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins is outside that station with reaction from some riders. tracee? >> reporter: this is a man who greets commuters on their way to work. it's leaving many people here wondering what led to him allegedly stabbing a man multiple times. >> it was simply i got my paper, hello, thank you, and like that was it. >> reporter: this commuter was shocked to hear that the guy who handed him his paper this morning may have stabbed another commuter less than an hour later. >> he seemed fine to me. to the hear this even happened is like -- >> reporter: metro spokesmen say they don't know what caused the express paperman to suddenly stab a 24-year-old man who was going to catch the train this morning. it happened just before 9:00. >> they get into an altercation that escalates to

the suspect tackled the victim and ended up stabbing him. >> reporter: metro transit police are searching for the suspect and working to positively identify him. but they say they have no doubt they'll be able to catch him quickly and bring him into custody. >> at least three good camera views of this incident. we are able as a result of that to identify the suspect. in addition to that there were multiple witnesses. >> reporter: there was also a female newspaper contractor at the metro entrance who is now working with metro transit detectives. >> there were actually two newspaper vendors handing out those newspapers. his colleague obviously knows who he is. the station manager is here every day and has seen him. >> reporter: a "washington post" spokesman released this statement saying, we are looking into exactly what happened. we are aware that an express contractor was involved and are currently gathering more information from police. it's leaving commuters wondering what happened with the paper man

>> everybody has their own issues. >> reporter: metro spokesman says they have clear hd video of what unfolded here. they're not going to release it because they say they know where their suspect or who their suspect is. all they have to do now is bring him in, and they're confident they're going to be able to do that. reporting live, i'm tracee wilkins. back to you all in the studio. >> thank you, tracy. that incident is just the latest high profile case for metro. last weekend 15-year-old davonte washington was gunned down in front of his family at the deanwood metro station. a 17-year-old has been charged with his murder. back in february a man was shot during an attempted robbery on board a green line train approaching the anacostia station. patrols have also been increased to deal with the spike in assaults carried out by groups of high school teens. those assaults are among the crimes that have risen when compared to this same time in 2015. the transit system was also the scene for two murders last year, a stabbing on a red line train on july 4th and a shooting in

warning about a serious security risk in federal buildings here and around the nation. it involves the different types of security badges that different buildings give out. as tom sherwood reports now, recent violence on capitol hill only highlights the risk. >> reporter: violence and security threats. they can occur anytime, anywhere. like monday at the capitol visitor center. even with increased security visibility around federal buildings, security remains a top issue for federal workers. >> whatever can be done to enhance security is something we support. >> reporter: carl oversees over 8,000 federal employees. >> it's important that the agencies know who is going in and out. >> reporter: a new inspector general report on thousands of federal buildings controlled by the general services administration says there is a serious security risk. the report says there are too many different types of secu

emergency room. our pat collins is at d.c. superior court now with more on this. pat? >> reporter: jim, a cop says a man tried to assault him with a hula hoop. after that it got violent and ug ugly. this is what timothy cox looked like after it happened. he says he has broken bones around his eye, stitches in his forehead after he was beaten by a u.s. park police officer. >> he kept on hitting me in my head. when he saw the blood, that's when he stopped. >> reporter: mr. cox was a passenger in this minivan when it was pulled over for a traffic violation. he says a park police officer maced him and then beat him in the face after he ran into his sister's house nearby. >> he sprayed the mace directly in my e

see but i was still trying to get the mace out of his hands because it was like he was trying to keep on spraying it. jooshg the park police say the officer was trying to arrest the driver of the minivan when mr. cox assaulted the officer by throwing a cooler and two hula hoops at him. the cooler missed but one of the hula hoops hit the officer in the face. that led to a chase into the house and a fight in one of the bedrooms. they say mr. cox was maced and struck in the face but police say it was self-defense. >> at that point that suspect reached out his hands and grabs that officers getalia and squeezed. the officer's only recourse was to punch him in the eye with a closed fist. >> reporter: john davis was the driver of the minivan and friend of mr. cox. he believes they were targeted because police thought they were gay. park police say they have no evidence the officer used any h

at the hospital he had used pcp earlier that day. john davis and timothy cox both have been charged with assault on a police officer. both men have had those charges dropped. doreen, back to you. >> pat collins. thank you. a driver is in custody after a police pursuit in fairfax county. it started along chain bridge road early this morning and ended at route 29 in fairfax. political tell us officers tried to pull over a car but the driver wouldn't stop. police say they followed the car along route 29 until they were able to make the driver stop. still no word on the driver's name or the reason for the initial traffic stop. a former judge has been sentenced to a year of probation for ordering a defendant in his court to be physically shocked. robert nalley is his e.

charles county until 2014. he was removed from the bench after he ordered a deputy sheriff to activate what's called a stun cuff. he did that when a defendant refused to listen to his orders. nalley pled guilty to a civil rights violation earlier this year. according to his arrangement, he must also attend anger management classes. it was not nalley's first brush with the law. back in 2010 he pled guilty to deflating the tire on a car that was parked in a spot that he wanted to use. severe weather is tearing through the nation's midsection and more could be on the way. as nbc news jay gray shows us, a twister slammed into a church just as people were having a prayer meeting. >> reporter: storm sirens sounded overnights a violent weather ripped across the heartland. multiple tornadoes ravaged parts of oklahoma tearing down trees

>> reporter: yeah, and doreen, keisha ajay says it was her friends who encouraged her to come to this parking lot behind us to hire a few workers. she was trying to stay within her budget, so she did, and thousand she says it's a decision she regrets. police say it happens often. people pull up to certain parking lots looking for inexpensive labor. that's what keisha ajay was after last wednesday when she needed help moving some heavy furniture. >> i had a large bedroom set that i needed moved. >> reporter: so she came here to the 711 parking lot to pick up two day workers. one of them was 44-year-old jose compos gonzalez. she was working in her room while gonzalez was just feet away. >> my daughter was upstairs in her room and the day laborer was undoing the armoire. >> reporter: that's when court documents say gonzalez inappropriately touched the 6-year-old girl and then apoloz

what do you want? >> some wheelchair attendants, baggage handlers and sky cabs protested outside national airport today. they want higher wages. some of the workers who are contracted by outside companies make less than $4 an hour plus tips. they say those wages are not liveable and they're pushing for $15 an hour. the protest today is part of a national campaign for airport workers all over the country. tonight we're learning more about when the airport in brussels may reopen. belgium officials hope to resume flights as early as yesterday, but now they're saying they will not reopen before this weekend due to the damage caused by two suicide bombers last week. the airport will be able to run only at 20% of its normal capacity. in a separate development, brussels airport police have written an open letter saying they sounded daily

inadequate security well before the attacks happened. interpol has issued an international arrest warrant connected to fake security badges sold to buyers in this country. a romanian fugitive is accused of making counterfeit credentials for the cia, the fbi, and other federal agencies. those badges were sold online and shipped from germany. several people have already tried to use them, including a man who tried to impersonate a cia officer in get into a secure area at reagan national airport in january of 2014. the family of a montgomery county police officer killed while working on an alcohol task force is pushing for tougher drunk driving laws in maryland. the maryland senate and house both passed the bill known as noah's law. it's named after officer noah leotta. it expands the use of ignition interlock devices for convicted drunk drivers,ut

control of its explosives to make sure an incident like this never happens again. the cia conducted k-9 training with the loudoun county sheriff's department at briar woods high school last week training dogs to detect bombs using a school bus. a piece of explosive training material fell out of a package and was left behind on the school bus. this evening the training program has been suspended. >> we want to make sure we're not missing anything here, so we just had a meeting this afternoon with the cia, with the public schools, with the fire marshal's office, and we wanted to make sure we suspended everything with regards to this program until a thorough review is done. >> reporter: on monday and tuesday the bus with the explosive training material on board carried students from three loudoun county public schools. >> it was a special needs bus. there were 26 students total. it went a total of 145.6 miles with the substance on it. >> reporr:

weekend. we have 80 degrees. we have windchills in the 20s. we have storms. we have very strong winds. here is the latest on storm team4 radar p.m. some very light showers out there right now in parts of carroll county and into parts of virginia. for most of us it's dry this evening. just isolated showers into the overnight hours. what we're really noticing, how mild it is, the cloud cover, and the winds. looking further back to the west, you can see more impressive lines of storms. this will be our weathermaker tomorrow. a cold front that moves through the area ultimately during the evening hours. ahead of it we'll be dealing with rain at times. currently we're in the 70s. low 70s. back around the i-81 corridor down into the 60s. washington at 73. annapolis as well. for tomorrow morning not a bad start as far as the temperatures are concerned, but you want to grab the umbrella. 66 at 7:00 a.m. by lunchtime we're in the low 70s. a high tomorrow near 80. we hit our high at 4:00 and by 7:00 p.m. temperatures w b

we'll have rain on and off at times throughout the day. it looks like the best chance of you dealing with rain will be mainly during the morning hours, but there's also the potential for more scattered showers during the afternoon and early evening hours, and maybe a few rumbles of thunder. no widespread severe weather is in the forecast tomorrow but it is one of those days where we're warm enough, we're humid enough where any storm that does form could have some strong gusty winds and some heavy rain. about a low to moderate risk of some heavy rain and a moderate risk of some high winds and any thunderstorms. even if we don't see the storms, you're going to be noticing the winds tomorrow gusting at at least 30 to 35 miles an hour throughout the day. so the weekend outlook, we have a few nats games friday and saturday. showers are possible at both games. kite festival on saturday. shower possible there. cherry blossom ten-miler, windy, cold, brutal, not very nice. sunday morning it will feel like temperatures are in the 20s when you factor in the winds. the thermometer reading about 40 degrees. saturday a high of 64.
