learned in the past hour one of the victims has died. news 4 jackie benson is live at the scene, good evening, jackie. >> reporter: megan, we're told that this began as some type of fight or dispute on the sidewalk just up the street. now, the man who was killed is said to be in his late 40s. it is not clear at this time if he is related to the less seriouslilily -- victim in his late 20s, people heard sounds of a fight out on the streets. it is not clear how many people were involved but it resulted in the stabbing. police shut down several blocks of the road which remain closed down at this time. as well as part of third street. >> there was some information that an assailant may have gone into one of these houses. we have pretty much discounted that. we think that it

miscommunication. indeed it was a victim going in there trying to help. however, to ensure our absolute safety of everybody we're going to clear the house. but that is where you're seeing that activity. >> reporter: now, as you mentioned this is arlington county's first homicide of the year. police have not released the victim's name. they're still in the process of notifying his family. live in arlington, jackie benson, news 4. alexandria just had had its first homicide of the year, tonight police are looking for leads. a 69-year-old man was found monday night with a head injury. today, he was assaulted during a robbery. if you have any information call the alexandria police. a vigil tonight to honor the memory of virginia state police trooper chad dermyer, who was

bus station yesterday. the fellow trooper's killed gunman was identified as james brown of illinois. brown had had a long criminal record and police say he had more than 140 rounds of ammunition with him. about 250 people paid tribute to dermyer. and police say that yesterday's shooting could have been far worse. >> had it not been for trooper chad i can't imagine how many more lives would have been lost. >> a birmingham student injured in the shooting was reduleased from the hospital. another woman was also injured. and today, we're getting video of a shooting. >> do it. use it.

[ screaming ] >> the defendant was wearing a so-called stun cuff and when he ignored orders, the electric shock was used on him. the judge pled guilty to a civil rights violation and sentenced to a year of probation and had had to pay a $5,000 fine. a power line was struck by lightning after a storm rolled through potomac this evening. you're about to see some video. you can see there it caused a pretty good sized fire. now, this happened around 7:00, officials from the montgomery county fire and rescue shot the footage while the firefighters put out the flames. while many of us did not see storms tonight that could change this weekend. let's talk to amelia siegal in the weather center. >> we're going to track rain tomorrow but not thunderstorms. and then tomorrow night

very windy. a high wind watch will begin tomorrow, through noontime on sunday. this includes the entire d.c. metro area, gusts potentially up to 60 miles an hour. with winds this strong we could see minor damage and downed trees and power lines. you want to use caution if you drive a high profile vehicle. a freeze watch will go into effect and run through sunday morning. this is parts of montgomery county, and frederick counties. if you have plants you probably want to put them back inside if you live in these areas. we'll track rain tomorrow, i'll show you the timing of that rain. and you could be completely dry tomorrow coming up in our forecast. and new at 11:00, we're getting video of a huge police presence in downtown silver springs. police say a fight broke out among teenagers, nobody was hurt, we're still leng

they arrested anybody. tonight, firefighters quickly knocked out flames at a town house in laurel. chopper 4 flew over the scene near sandy spring road. the back deck went up in flames and quickly spread up to the roof, nobody was hurt. investigators are trying to figure out how it happened. tonight, two last minute searches were organized for this man's children. it has been a year and a half since the two were seen with their mother. >> reporter: sarah and jacob went missing two years ago in september, last seen with their mother, catherine, when they disappeared in montgomery county. tonight, the children's father, troy turner, tells me he and volunteers will search the park this weekend. >> i don't necessarily believe they're there, but it's one of the more possible scenarios that we can come up with. so that is wh

posted a craigslist ad soliciting young models. the victim responded to the ad and contacted evans on kick. she told him she was 14, but it didn't stop him. on more than one occasion he drove to her house in montgomery county to have sex, police believe there are other victims in the baltimore area. evans is free on bond tonight. and president obama praised the progress being made on securing nuclear materials around the world. then he took a shot at donald trump. the president said a lot of important work is started even if the goal of stopping nukes doesn't happen in his lifetime. then he was asked about south korea and japan and arming themselves with weapons. >> the person who made the statements doesn't know much about foreign policy or nuclear policy or the korean peninsula or the world generally. >> the president said that

trump's comments came up during talks with foreign leaders at the summit. he said other nations want sobriety and clarity from the united states. a new mosque and cultural center will have their grand opening in maryland tomorrow. vice president joe biden, the president of turkey and our dignitaries from around the world are expected to be there. news 4 got a tour of the $110 million center today. the largest muslim center in the entire area. this features a turkish bath, an education center and indoor pool and basketball court. if you have plans to visit the washington monument tomorrow heads up, it will be closed tomorrow all day for repairs. 86 people were stranded when another elevator malfunctioned. and they had to walk down nearly 900 steps. the elevators have been shut down for the second time this

this afternoon, the mayor cancelled plans for d-dot attend a meeting in raleigh. meanwhile, they are rejecting to change the law, despite the governor's suggestion of tweaking the bill earlier this week. critics held a rally as you see there in wilmington today. the controversial law limits protection for gays, lesbians and transgender people. the hacker accused of breaking into george w. bush's private e-mail account is now in alexandria facing criminal charges, named marcel lazar, he successfully hacked the bush family's e-mails, art work and a self portrait of the president in a tub. the authority agreed to charge him with stalking and wire fraud. and if you had a few glasses
