40 miles per hour, gaithersburg just had a gust of 5, annapolis at 40. reagan national gusts to 35 miles per hour. most locations gusts are under 40 miles an hour. i would wait to clear tree debris until the winds diminish because small branches may still be coming down mid-morning. >> and as you mentioned, last night's storm did cause a lot of damage. >> and tom mentioned the trees. this is one he tree, that is actually lining near a house in bethesda. and it's dangerously close to falling taking down a power pole with it, a telephone line looks like, as well. let's get to derrick ward, he's live in bethesda where the homeowners are trapped by that tree. >> reporter: indeed they are. take a look, as you said, it is leaning on power lines, on to communications wires. it's

pole. there are pepco crews on the scene here. as plund, as well, trying to figure out how to take the tree down. but this all started about 2:00 a.m. this morning. we spoke to the homeowner and she said she heard what sounded like things falling on the roof and then sort of a crackling noise. she came out and in the moon light this is what she saw. she said she wasn't too crazy about the tree that is there close to the curb, but now that tree saved that tree that she did like that is almost toppling and she's feeling completely trapped. >> i must say, i was horrified. i understood that if it falls and there is an arc, we could have a fire. >> reporter: and we talked to her by phone like that and used the camera to sort of let

the car fell on to kensington parkway. police say the driver was thrown from the car and killed. alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. we're working to learn more about a stabbing on four mile run on the trail. the person was taken to gw hospital with what police are calling traumatic injuries. working to figure out how that person is doing this morning. and last night's stabbing, the second in arlington in two days. this morning we can tell you police made an arrest in friday's deadly assault. what was their first murder of the year. police say a 17-year-old boy stabbed 46-year-old dennis adams to death on friday. neighbors tell news 4 that 14-year-old is adams' son. right now police not releasing his identity. the teen is expected in court on monday. the stabbing happened friday night on south glebe road near 3ed. it's 9:05. and it looks like the war of words over wives on the campaign trail

donald trump now says that he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of ted cruz's wife after a partially nude picture of his wife was sent out. meanwhile, all the remaining candidates are focusing their attention on wisconsin's gop primary. chris pollone has the latest in decision 2016. >> reporter: speaking with republican party loyalists in north dakota, ted cruz took aim at donald trump portraying himself as the only republican who can win in november. >> and if we nominate donald trump, it hands the general election to hillary clinton with a big silver bow. he loses by double digits. i beat hillary clinton. >> reporter: polls show cruz leading wisconsin. trump kept up his attack on cruz. >> they want me to act presidential, they don't want me to call him lying ted. >> reporter: he also took a hit at john kasich. >> kasich can't help you, folks. he's middle of the pack. >> reporter: kasich didn't want

we expect the washington monument to be back open this morning. it has been closed since friday afternoon when appn elevator bre down again. people had to walk down nearly 900 steps. a faulty power fsupply is to blame. in all, the monument has closed ten times in less than a year because of elevator issues. easing traffic is also welcome. transportation officials say they're trying to make your commute flew virginia a little bit easier. as wtop is reporting, they're working on a transportation package aimed at decreasing gridlock along interstate 95 particularly the corridor in northern virginia. so one of the proposed projects includes extending express lanes south to fredericksburg. virginia is expected to apply for federal grants to help pay for that project. we now know when the fal

this week wednesday's child, a very special teenager who we first introduced you to back in the fall. >> she has been waiting and wishing for a permanent loving family. and she hasn't given up her hope that it will happen one day and neither have we. barbara harrison reintroduces us to allison. >> reporter: she was weighing for us at the front door of her son. allison says hello with the punch of a button. allison wore her favorite rainbow shoes for this occasion and she was ready to show me how well she has learned to get around. >> when i met her, she used a little wheelchair and since then she's gotten surgery and she was really reluctant to walk, but

good morning. tom kierein in the storm team 4 "weather center" tracking the strong winds which you can see in this live view from national harbor camera. clouds shadows racing over the wind swept waters of the potomac river. wilson bridge in the distance. winds gusting up to around 40 miles an hour this morning. temperatures as well. feeling wintry cold. with the winds, it feels like it is only in the 20s. p so layer so layer up before y out. i wouldn't take a walk in a wooded area yet, we still have tree branches coming down. the debate over an anti-discrimination law in north carolina is really heating up. hundreds of people gathered outside the governor's mansion yesterday. they were carrying signs that were shaming the governor and chanting we want better. last week state lawmakers passed a bill which requires transgender people to use the restroom

so weather headlines through this sunday more than, we'll keep the weather alert going because of the winds, but they will be diminishing late morning and during the afternoon really settling down. rain monday, getting cold again on tuesday. snow flurries we had earlier in fauquier county, they are now gone tracking off south to east. temperatures are just in the mid and upper 30s right now. feels like the 20s. it's in the low 30s shenandoah valley where many locations got below freezing this morning along the 81 corridor from hagerstown all the way down to luray. but now getting above freezing now. near 40 around the chesapeake bay. hour by hour forecast, there is the tidal basin. you can see most of the blossoms are gone. winds really did a number on the blossoms. and temperatures by noontime should be in the low 40s with the winds still gusting maybe away 30, 35 miles per hour. then by 3:00 p.m., the peak gusts 20 to 25 miles an hour with sunshine, temperatures should make it into the low 50s. that's by 3:00 p.m. by 6:00
