having a medical emergency on friday. that homeowner said that he thought someone was trying to break into his house so he opened fire. the fire departments as far away as baltimore city will help emergency calls in prince george's today so the local firefighters can attend the funeral. today a teenager charge in the stabbing death of a relative heads to court. dennis adams was stabbed by a 17-year-old relative earlier this month at a house in arlington. the team of the teenager has not been released. a domestic dispute led to the stabbing. a d.c. man faces murder charges in the death of this man. an off-duty secret service agent by the name of arthur baldwin. police arrested charles sims on monday for the shooting death that happened last december near south capitol and first street. police believe sims tried to rob baldwin before shooting. baldwin worked for the secret serv b

the time. we are watching some big developments in the flint water crisis. michigan's attorney general is going to announce criminal charges against three people, two state regulators and a flint employee are allegedly at the helm of wrongdoing, a probe that will likely expand. the felony and misdemeanor charges include violating michigan's drinking water law, official misconduct, obstruction of utility property and evidence tampering. the announcement is happening this afternoon. we will, of course, bring you much more on it as it develops here from the live desk and on nbcwashington.com. back to you. you have proved once again there's no place like home. >> i can think of nowhere that i would rather have this victory. >> it is impossible to catch up. that is what donald trump is saying after a huge win in new york. >> hillary clinton

well saying it's inevitable that she will be the presidential nominee come november. clinton needs fewer than 500 more delegates to get the democratic nomination. she has 177 new delegates from yesterday's primary to bring her total to 1,885 compared to bernie sanders' 1,190. donald trump is expanding his lead to more than 250 delegates. he now has 844 compared to senator ted cruz's 559. governor john kasich is still way behind. in fact, trump is now the only gop candidate with a chance to clench the party's nomination before the gop convention. he won by so much in new york that there are not enough delegates left in future contests for either cruz or kasich to reach that 1,237 they need in order to grab the gop nomination. their only hope now is to force a contested convention. and hillary clinton telli

supporters this morning that she can see her victory over senator sanders. she captured nearly 60% in the vote in yesterday's democratic primary. senator sanders is insisting there is a way forward. he would need to win 71% of the remaining delegates and uncommitted superdelegates at a shot for winning the nomination. next up, voters in maryland will have their say. maryland is one of the states holding a primary this coming tuesday, april 26th. trump and clinton are polling far ahead in the three states for a majority of next week's delegates. tracie potts looks ahead with us a little later on. today striking verizon workers played a rally outside of silver spring's call center as thousands continue to picket across the u.s. last week close to 40,000 workers in nine states walked off the job in a dispute over a new contract. retirement benefits and outsourced jobs a huge part of the negotiations.

near duke. still a little slow because of the earlier road work. eun? thank you, melissa. search teams will continue to shenandoah national park to continue the search for a fairfax county firefighter nicole mittendorff. darcy spencer has more on this story. darcy? >> reporter: well, good morning, eun. the search efforts are going to start right at daybreak this morning at the shenandoah national park. the search efforts have been going on for several days for the missing firefighter, paramedic, who is stationed right here at station 32 in fairfax county. nicole mittendorff was reported missing on friday. her car was found in the national park saturday evening. authorities stressed at this point there's no sign of foul play but there's a lot of concern from relatives who do not know where she is or what may have happened to her. she's described as a dedicated

either the restroom that corresponds with their biological gender or a private single stall restroom. the ruling has wide implications but is far from set in stone. the gloucester county school board can appeal to a higher court and the case is so controversial it could eventually go all the way to the supreme court. >> we have individuals that are very happy there's liberation and there are individuals who are uncomfortable. >> the ruling applies to four other states including north carolina. it likely means that state's controversial transgender bathroom law passed last month cannot be enforced in public schools including colleges and universities. today a chance to talk about how much you trust the police. arlington is holding a community forum at 7:00 tonight. the county's chief of police and sheriff will both be there. if you do want to talk to them, go to thomas jefferson middle school on south old

and there was a smoke incident that happened back in 2015. the national transportation safety board will reveal what it believes caused that incident at a meeting on may 3rd. a woman was killed and more than 90 others were hurt when they got stuck on that train in january of 2015. the train was not able to return to the station because power was lost to the third rail. the u.s. navy is reviewing all of its recruitment brochures after a push-back that one of them was sexist. a flier in question says the navy offers women opportunity, quote, most girls are not aware of in career areas that aren't, quote, just for the guys, all while staying in touch with your feminine side. more than 200,000 people received a brochure. the navy pulled it from production yesterday saying it does not represent navy values. a la

traffic broken. breaking news right now, 395 inbound there at duke street is where the problem is. right now this picture is at edsall road with a four-mile backup headed in. now we have a crash adding to this so a four-mile backup on 395 inbound. take a look at that, it is going to be slow this morning. unless they can get this out of the road here very quickly. 270 southbound after 80 has a left shoulder blocked by a crash. we're looking at that just a couple minutes ago saying, what is going on there? we now know it's a crash on the left shoulder. you can get by but it's slowing you down a little bit. 29 south the ramp to westbound 66 has cleared out of the way. don't have to worry about that one anymore. big look at the beltway. we'll have travel times in ten minutes. we are working to learn more about the two people who died after witnesses say their plane just dropped out of the sky and exploded into flames.

what i guess was fuel-fed. >> i tried to put the flames out and they were both already gone. >> now the faa and ntsb are investigating. the plane crashed in queen anne's county near the chesapeake bay bridge yesterday afternoon. it was just 200 yards short of the bay bridge airport runway. maryland state police say the plane was a rv12 like the model here. it bloongelonged to the flight training group near the airport. no students were on board at the time of the crash. today a baltimore judge will consider arguments surrounding testimony in the trials of some of the officers charged in the death of freddie gray. gray is the baltimore man who died as a result of injury he sustain in the back of the police van. prosecutors say gerrit miller testified at edward

trial. they were the first bike officers who first arrested gray. six other officers face charges in the april 2015 incident. virginia now has new rules for how police agencies collect, store and test its sexual assault kit. now this comes months after the state discovered thousands of untested kits. last year a state agency identified fairfax county as one of the departments with the most untested kits. now police say that some of the kits went untested for these reasons including false reports, the attacker confessed or a victim decided not to prosecute. the kits must be kept for at least two years. concerns this morning about the growing gang problem in one maryland county. frederick county sheriff chuck jenkins testified before a congressional committee yesterday saying he believes the growing gang problem is related to undocumented i want grants. he says the gangs are recruiting in sc
