7:02 am
the game tonight, taking off right after the show. we will talk to al roker in just a little while. let's start with politics. in one week, the polls will be open. let's get right to the state of the race. seven days to go. this morning, the fbi is pouring through e-mail found on anthony weiner's lap top. >> despite that. polls showing hillary clinton >> both campaigns in high gear today. trump has two rallies in pennsylvania and wisconsin. clinton makes three stops in florida. she's keeping her powerful surrogates busy as well with president obama and vice president biden and sanders all on the trail for her. >> spirit starts this off -- peter starts this off this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.
7:03 am
to obamacare. this morning, donald trump is again attacking hillary clinton over her e-mail as we learned investigators made a duplicate of the hard drive from that laptop belonging to anthony weiner and are now pouring through it. donald trump's criticism about her latest issue. >> what is in those e-mail is absolutely devastating. >> reporter: hillary clinton cozy relationship with russia. >> donald trump should immediately disclose all of his ties and connections to the kremlin and its associates. >> reporter: after the top senate democrat, harry reid accused fbi director, james comey of having a double standard for refusing to release quote explosive information about ties to rrussia, the fbi

former campaign manager, paul manafort. he was to be paid $12.7 million in cash for representing a politician in ukraine. while the fbi did not respond to the comment for inquiry, manafort tells nbc news none of it is true and says there is no fbi inquiry. a trump spokesperson said mr. trump severed his ties with mr. manafort many months ago and has no knowledge of his present arguing a blatant double standard the clinton campaign highlighting a cnbc report who says comey did not want the fbi to be a federal agency disclosing russia's role in hacking because he was concerned it could influence the election. donald trump jr. defending comey from criticism. >> comey was the greatest guy in world two or three months ago
7:05 am
they just never hated the evidence he had. >> i have a son named baron. i want to tell you she is a terrible example for my son and children of this country. >> reporter: the fbi analying the thousands of documents found on a laptop belonging to clinton aide, huma abedin and h weiner. overnight they said she had not been contacted by the fbi but remains cooperative. meanwhile, a week before the election, clinton remaining defiant. >> i am sure they will reach the same conclusion they did when they looked at my e-mail for the last year, there is no case here. >> reporter: this morning, there's a new poll out from this key battleground state of pennsylvania shows hillary
7:06 am
now, worth noing much of that poll was completed before the fbi announcement about its latest e-mail review, as donald trump and mike pence are trying to get more republicans to come home to the gop ticket, new evidence this morning at least one republican leader is still staying away, a spokesperson for john kasich, telling nbc news the ohio governor has now filed his ballot absentee, writing in his friend, john min >> thank you. let's bring in steve kornacki and nicolle wallace. you've been on campaigns, in this position, a week to go before election day. do campaigns view that amount of time as an eternity or nanosecond? >> somewhere in between. here's how political information is processed. even if you have a debate where 84 million people watch, sometimes it's the coverage of
7:07 am
your friend's facebook about the coverage about the debate. there's about a 72 hour window for political information to sink in and be processed and be judged. after thursday or early friday, it's very hard to introduce new arguments into this campaign cycle. >> we will look more deeply into our poll in a moment and you can show us what the pre-comey post effect was. if hi dampens the enthusiasm of republicans thinking of holding their nose and voing for hillary clinton, are they now coming home as donald trump and mike pence are encouraing them to do. >> there are indications and pre-dates the whole comey thing and indications republican voters hold-outs were taking a new look in the final stretch of the campaign and maybe coming to the conclusion, at the end of the day, i have to be with my party on this. this might hasten all that.
7:08 am
the right question, who will be more motivated and i could see that happens with republicans. >> how much does attitude of the candidate come into play right now? isn't it true the candidate in the final days needs to project positivity, a sense we're doing well and perception becomes reality for voters? >> this may be another one of the bygone traditions of presidential politics, you typically pull your negative ads message. but in this candidacy, talking about republicans coming home, i don't know if they recognize home with a map, something we've never seen before. 90% of democrats are behind their nominee and he's set to get 75% of republicans. it makes an interesting map he's chosen. he's in states he is not on offense has a big gap.
7:09 am
what is he projecting. is he projecting strength in these final days. >> it wouldn't be political if we didn't send steve to the wall. what does survey monkey show? >> 47-41, that's where the race stands right now. the big question is last week, a weekly tracking poll, out there everyday taking the poll. you can see last week before that announcement before the fbi find 47-41, no immediate impact in terms of polling and bottom not dropping out for clinton as a result. >> i will go way out on a limb. i will suggest whether people see the letter a distraction or insignificant might be along party lines. >> you see is it important or a distraction? if you're a democrat, 83% say it's a distraction, not important if you're a
7:10 am
