world news coming up . >> whitney: tonight we're hearing from two lynchburg teens who found themselves stuck on a ski lift along with close to one others in a skiing competition in west virginia. it happened yesterday morning at the timberline resort. the incident left at least nine people injured and two hospitalized. courtney wheaton joins us live with a firsthand look at those local skiers. >> reporter: teens said they had to watch as their teammates and friends were thrown to the ground. the images continue to replay in their minds. >> not really. >> reporter: they can all laugh about it now. but saturday's close call was nothing to smile about.

this is actually happening. >> reporter: jette davidson and alex walter were two skiers that were competing in the alpine championships. that is until something went wrong. >> we had seen the chair lifted. it had fallen to the ground. the tower had fallen to the ground. >> reporter: one of the ski lifts malfunctioned leaving skiers stranded while another one dumped riders to the ground. luckery, no one was seriously injured, but first responders say that it could have been worse. >> people were flying off one by one. they could have hit a tree. >> reporter: on the timberline resort facebook page, it says is the cause of the malfunction is under investigation and that this is

like this has happened in the resort's 30-year history. although the competition was cut short, they're happy to be home safe and sound. >> so grateful. this could have been much worse. >> reporter: resort officials say an insurance investigator and lift engineers were on the scene today trying to determine the cause of the failure. the skiing competition has been postponed to next weekend. >> whitney: all right. and we'll continue to keep you updated. tonight firefighters in brookneal are back at the dan river plant after a small fire rekindled there yesterday morning. excavators are there trying to drown that fire out. that blaze sparked inside the building just nine days after a massive fire tore through the planned. the building still had been smoldering since that fire, resulting in several 9-1-1 calls from residents.

indeed a shooting spree in kalamazoo county, michigan. a man opened fire at three locations yesterday. this is one of the scenes at a cracker barrel restaurant. the other locations were a car dealership and a townhome community. >> we have multiple people dead. it looks like we have somebody just driving around, finding people, and shooting them dead in their tracks. >> whitney: authorities say that five people were shot outside the cracker barrel, and four of them died. two people were killed at the dealership and one person was community. the suspect in custody is identified as 45-year-old jason dalton. ride service uber confirmed that dalton worked for their company. the company said that he had passed their background check but they did not confirm that

between those shootings. uber said they'll help in the investigation any way they can. and candidates are on the trail today just hours after voters in nevada and south carolina made their picks for president. and there's already new controversy. mary bruce breaks it down. rally. >> when you win it's beautiful. >> reporter: to campaign rally. georgia? >> reporter: donald trump back on the trail today and flying high after his big win in south carolina. >> you think you have this nomination in hand? >> no, not at all. >> reporter: but he's also getting heat from a tweet saying is that ted cruz and marco rubio are ineligible to be president. >> i have 14 million people on social media and we retweet things. >> reporter: marco rubio responded.

tuesday and we >> will: it was a cloudy and cool day. and a lot of times on these cloudy can cool days, we get things like this. the temperature at 53 and the dew point at 53 as well. that means the air is completely saturated. visibility at two miles and less than that in the revoke valley. 1/4 visibility in some areas. hot springs, you can't see a thing. charlottesville, low visibility. and visibility a little better for the new river valley.

in the overnight hours tonight as things start to dry out. we're at 59 right now in danville. 54 roanoke. 48 hot springs. 52 blacksburg. farmville 58 degrees. the areas that saw a heavier rainfall had a flood watch issued. that will be in effect for until 7:00 this evening. the majority of the rain has slid by from those areas. also a few patches in buckingham and appomattox county as well. that will continue to slide down to the south. but watch one more band of showers toward the west for this evening, but then things should dry out. then our attention turns to this weather system that is organized towards dallas and houston. that will be here in the day on wednesday. the boundary is moving to the south tomorrow.

we'll be in a cool air wedge for monday. our next big rain event will be on wednesday as that area of low pressure continues around texas. the rain will come to an end overnight tonight. patchy fog and drizzle. a carbon copy on monday. some rain on tuesday would be heavy at times. we'll get a little bit of a break tuesday night before more rain comes into the area in the afternoon wednesday. and some of that rain on wednesday could be relatively heavy at times as well. thursday afternoon, we could see anywhere from 1-2 inches of rain depending on where these heavier rain band set up. this will fall in the form some rain. the snow will stay up towards the north. and we stand a decent chance
