terry is is in fort mill. what has the turnout been like there? >> reporter: yes, somewhere seen voters trickle in over the past hour or so but over all poll workers say it's been a fairly low turn out this morning around 10:00 a.m. workers told me they only had about 50 people cast their votes. this is the second primary matchup for hillary clinton and bernie sanders. polls show clinton has a dominating lead in the state and could win by a large margin today. south carolina's democratic chairman was quote the this week saying he expects about 400,000 voters to turn out statewide today. now that is more than 130,000 less than the turn out in 2008 primary. a young voter told me why she made it a priority to cast her ballot today. >> people in my mother's age group all vote but people in my

will be there. it's unclear if trump will make a campaign stop in fayetteville before north carolina's primary. trump is is getting his most prominent endorsement yet in the election. yesterday new jersey governor chris christie backed the republican front runner. he says trump is rewriting the play book of american politics. trump says the endorsement really means a lot to him. thousands of fans are expected to swarm uptown charlotte this afternoon for the final day of the ciaa weekend. the college basketball tournament brings in millions of dollars in revenue for the city of charlotte. according to the city's tourism industry, more than 80% of fans traveled at least 50 miles to charlotte. we caught up with some fans who drove six hours just to be here. >> i've been coming here since i was four years old. i haven't missed a tournament. >> charlotte has been the host city for the past 11 years for the tournament.

today's ciaa finals you may need extra cash for parking. the green parking garage on south tryon street is charging $10 instead of $7. drivers will also have to prepay for entering the parking garage. charlotte douglas airport is hosting a job fair. a variety of companies are offering full time, part time, seasonal, and temporary employment. hundreds of positions are open including retail, airline services and maintenance. the job fair is happening at the clt center. >> it's an opportunity for all of our candidates to come and meet the employers and have one on time with those employers and learn about the different positions that are available. >> and you still have time to get out there. the job fair runs until 2:00 this afternoon. one of the companies is piedmont airlines. they are looking to add 300 jobs to the operations at charlotte douglas.

the ciaa tournament looking good but cooler. by 3:00 53 degrees and then we cool off to the low 30s by 9:00. if you are heading to uptown make sure to grab the jacket. now take you through our hour by hour forecast coming up in 15 minutes. we have new information about a massive fire at an uptown gas station. authorities say this fire caused at least $150,000 in damage. just look at those flames there. customers were inside of the circle k on graham street when the fire started yesterday afternoon. thankfully everyone got out okay. fire investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire. employees believe that it may have been electrical. police are asking for your help to find a couple who they say stole very expensive diamonds from a local jewelry store. investigators released these surveillance pictures from the jewelry exchange in hickory. our partners at the hickory

asked to see rings with large stones and that is when police say the man grabbed the diamonds and walked out. in all police say they stole more than $220,000 in jewelry. police in rock hill are looking for a man they say chased a jogger with a knife near the downtown area. investigators say the woman down laurel street thursday afternoon when she turned around again she says she saw him running at her with a knife. that is when she ran into the bathroom of a nearby bank. all of this happened just a university. police hope surveillance video from that bank will help them track down the suspect. we are asking for that video. drivers say this controversial diverging diamond has not helped traffic at all. what the d.o.t. plans to do now to ease congestion there. plus.

some changes are coming to the controversial diverging the nc d.o.t. is making improvements to the diamond by adding a turn lane to merge on to i-77 north. nc d.o.t. hopes to fix the congestion issues with these improvements. construction will start in the spring. in south carolina laugh makers there the senate are stuck over a critical bill to fix the states roads and bridges. it's been held up by filibuster far week thousand. the house passed a bill last year to raise the gas tax to pay for the roads but work on a senate bill has hit a wall.

told channel 9 that senate rules will have to be changed to prevent this in the future. >> passing this bill is the most important thing that will take up this year. it's crucial. >> hayes supports voting to end the filibuster but some others do not. it is not clear what will happen to the roads bill right now. state lawmakers could call a special meeting about charlotte's controversial nondiscrimination ordnance. who will have to make that call and the costly tab you will have to pick up. >> nice and sunny this afternoon but temperatures will be cooler with highs in the mid 50s.

working out to transgender homicides. the justice department gave new guidance to help law enforcement handle domestic community. the number of people caught up in last years taxpayer data theft is seven times larger than originally thought. cyber criminals used a popular tool on their website to steal tax forms of 140,000 people. and now the agency says the number is closer to 720 hayricks. the irs has disabled the online document tool used to steal that personal information. charlotte renters and condo owners are voicing their concern over a city study to eliminate trash pickup. they have been considering the move for the past four years. the city could save millions of dollars by turning services over to contractors.

yesterday that they feel it would unfairly force them to pay more fees on top of taxes without services homeowners would get. >> you are going to cut my services cut my taxes and that is dispair. >> charlotte city council will go over the idea next month but before they do, another citizens forum is planned for march 11th. this morning with trash bags in hand the hidden valley community came together to clean up their neighborhood. they organized a neighborhood cleanup in hopes for making their area safer. they want speed bumps placed on echo glen road. but first they have to complete 500 hours of community service. organizers say that it is worth it to change their neighborhood's image. >> in past years there has been a lot of bad press and a lot of things, negative things that

we're in the upper 30s in the mountains. 45 in statesville. and mid 40s in mooresville. here in the charlotte area 47- degrees to 47 in rock hill. degrees. if you are heading out this afternoon, you might want a light jacket. we will make it to around 53 degrees. this is a little cool for this time of year but a big warmup is on the way. later this evening your hour by hour forecast mid 40s. great if you are heading to uptown or heading into the ciaa the final day of the tournament through this afternoon. tomorrow another nice day will be cooler in the morning. but really not a lot as far as clouds as we go throughout the afternoon. and we will also see a shift in winds. what that will do is help to warm us up. we are going from cooler than average today to warmer than average tomorrow. mid 60s just a beautiful end to the weekend. feeling more like spring. even though we have 20 days until the official start of spring.

by monday and tuesday even as clouds start to build in some neighborhoods could be close to 70 degrees. but changes are on the way and that will come in the form of rain as we head toward wednesday. sot mountains will see -- so the mountains will see that rain first and rolling into the charlotte area. this won't be a washout. not an all day event but we might have the chance to see another isolated thunderstorm with this. our threat tracker shows the main concerns moderate threat for heavy rain as for now flooding may not be a concern and low threat for thunderstorms and strong winds. we will continue to track that as we head toward the middle of the week. john will have more at 6:00. and you can stay on top of any changes to the forecast for our wsoc tv weather app. so your five-day forecast shows it will be a nice day today but a little cooler. mid 50s. tomorrow waking up in the low 30s but we warm to the mid 60s by the afternoon. really just a gorgeous weekend and by monday and tuesday

in. we're looking at our next chance of rain coming in on wednesday but even as that passes through, we are not looking at temperatures as cold as they have been recently. >> great to me. thank you, vicki. north carolina state health officials says when it comes to the flu this year, don't let your guard down. there have only been four deaths reported this season. that is compared to last year. 218 people died but health officials say while the vaccine is proving to be more effective this year, they are seeing an up tick in cases. >> we hope that the little heat we saw around christmas was going to be it for the season. it seems we are on an upswing now. >> this years strand target les middle age adults the hardest. that compares to last years strain. we told you earlier this week this years flu vaccine is one of the most effective in years. records show the people that got the flu shot were 59% less

give u after this six week old puppy survived being shot with a bb gun he is going home with his new owner today. ken lennon has more on the special bond growing. >> reporter: the smile on kailey's face and the wimper from brody explains why they belong together. >> it's happiness for me a bunch of happiness. >> reporter: both of them found happiness at the trauma. police say brody was shot and nearly killed by teens with bb

the six week old puppy survived with bb's lodged under his skin. kailey who is ten had a therapy dog. he died in january. >> i lost my buddy. i felt like i lost half my heart. that half of my heart he brought it back to me. >> reporter: word of brody's attack went viral. project safe pets was swamped with adoption requests. >> we had people from australia wanting to adopt him. >> reporter: they narrowed it down to three families and let kailey visit brody. there was an instant connection. >> we all knew it was the right thing to do. >> reporter: now these two once wounded little ones are healing together. >> he makes me so happy. >> reporter: project safe pets says for all of those people that didn't get to adopt brody, there are still hundreds of other animals waiting to find homes.
