this is between east third and east fourth streets. police have spent a lot of time looking in the area. they have been taking photos, scouring for evidence in that area. we asked cmpd ten minutes ago if they had new reports of possible injuries. so far none have been reported. channel 9 will continue following this breaking news for you. we will bring you any new information as soon as we get it. now let's check this with meteorologist vicki graf to see just how much we are going to warm up today. >> and it is going to be a beautiful day ahead. yesterday we made it to 56 degrees. it's a cooler start to the day. temperatures just updated to our weather center. 32 in charlotte. 30 this concord. 27 in statesville. a warmer 41 degrees in jefferson. if you are heading out to sunday services early, grab that jacket. lots of sunshine, highs will warm into the mid 60s today. it's also going to be a little bit breezy. i will show you how long the sunshine and warmth will stick around.

channel 9 is following three other stories out of our breaking news center. that includes unrest in a salt lake city neighborhood. one person was shot last night and witnesses say it was a 16- year-old boy. police say two officers were involved in the shooting. witnesses add you can see right there lots of tension that many people became upset over that shooting. some of them started throwing rocks and glass at the officers. also breaking this morning a police officer shot and killed in virginia last night was only on her second day on the job. officer ashley was killed yesterday while responding to a domestic violence call. two other officers were also shot and taken to the hospital. but their conditions are unknown this morning. over night we learned more than 100 patrol cars lined the roads outside of that hospital to stand vigil. the county attorney city says the suspect who has not been named will face a capitol murder charge among other counts. over night we learned a

accident. it happened along toddville road last night. police say the teenagers injuries are not life threatening. they did tell us they are not sure if the teen shot himself or if a friend accidentally shot him. police used a canine to search for any possible suspects. presidential candidate hillary clinton had an astounding victory in the south carolina democratic primary. just take a look at these numbers. you can see clinton has 73.5% of the votes from yesterday. while sanders took in 26%. clinton talked about working together for a better future and hit on the two major groups that she needs to vote for her both the youth and women. at one point clinton discussed equal pay for equal work and making higher education more affordable. here's a little bit of that

>> despite what you hear, we don't need to make america great again, america has never stopped being great. >> clinton has been accused of being robotic during her speeches. but last night was different. she got very personal and even quoted the bible saying we need more love and kindness in this world. despite a landslide primary win for clinton, her democratic rival bernie sanders doesn't seem to be giving up. last night he addressed a crowd of supporters in rochester. he was not in south carolina for yesterday's primary. here's what he had to say. >> it is about thinking big and the kind of country we want to become. >> sanders will be in oklahoma and colorado today heading into super tuesday. a group of students at winthrop university told channel 9 they were not surprised by clinton's big win. students held a watch party for the democratic primary. the campus has be a hot bed for

with sanders and clinton visiting. >> pretty much expected in south carolina since she has the black caucus. >> clinton's campaign moving forward means she has weight thousand. some accomplishment as far as her base. for sanders i think that will energize even more. >> state democratic leaders expert opinioned up to 400,000 -- expected up to 400,000 people to hit the poll but that is more than half of what we saw for republican primary in south carolina. we are a few days away from super tuesday where they will push for all votes in 13 states. both rubio and cruz rallied in georgia.

hall. burke county officials have named a voting site after the hildebrand school was destroyed. the gym at that school was supposed to be used as an early voting site and a precinct site. according to our news partners at the morganton news hearld that will be moved to hildebrand methodist church right next door. fire investigators have not determine had caused the fire but they are not ruling out an electrical problem or arson. the burke county fire marshall told the morganton news hearld it is undetermined because the fbi and atf cannot go into that building because of safety concerns. residents fought to save that

channel 9 expects to get the final tournament report which will tell us how many people attended this event. cmpd declared the tournament an extraordinary event. meaning extra security measures were in place. the event is expected to bring in millions of dollars to the city of charlotte. >> we come here every year from the d.c. area and come hang out with our friend right here who lives in the charlotte area and we just enjoy the time we have with each other. >> this is the 11th straight year charlotte has hosted the ciaa tournament including 2014. back then they saw $47 million from the tournament. virginia state pulled off the title this year. we expect to get that report today at noon and we'll bring

online as soon as we get them. a gastonia man is accused of sex crimes against a child. statutory sex offense. police say it happened between january 29th and the 30th and involved a girl under the age of 13. he is now in the gaston county jail this morning with no bond. 7:08 right now. cmpd is searching for the suspect that shot two people in east charlotte. police say they were called -- when we arrived several patrol cars were there and the area was roped off by crime scene tape. officers say the two people involved said someone shot at them on belmont avenue and took their car. this week teachers will have the chance to voice their opinions about what it's really like to teach in north carolina. the state board of education is opening up a survey on teachers work conditions. this is just months after the state legislature granted teacher raises but not as much

it's channel 9 is continuing to follow breaking news in uptown charlotte where police are investigating shots fire into a building. right now you are getting a live look. it remains very active. you can see police cars on both ends blocking off that area. we have been on that scene since 5:30 this morning. shots may have been fired into sky condominiums building. they may have hit sky condominiums building. they did find three guns in a nearby vehicle. not sure if there is one suspect or possibly more than one person involved. we checked in with them 20

far they do not have any reports of any injuries. but they have been focusing on that big large black van. of course we will remain on that scene. we'll bring you any new breaking updates as soon as we get them. new this morning south carolina counties plan to spend less than half of the $216 million in road money that lawmakers set aside last year. only $4 million of that money from last years budget has been spent so far. 22 counties have not submitted yet. saying that they're working to figure out which projects should get money. for the last two weeks state senator tom davis has been filibustering or blocking a road funding bill. the bill passed that bill last year which would raise the gas tax by $0.12 to pay for the roads. but the senate bill has hit a wall.

to the roads bill right now. a coroner identified the alleged gunman in washington who lacy killed four people. they say campbell called police early friday and said he killed his family at a home outside of seattle. police negotiated with him for three hours before he shot and killed himself. the only survivor was carlson's 12-year-old daughter. a man went on a shooting rampage thursday. police say he killed three of his coworkers and injured more than a dozen others. hundreds of people gathered at a candle light vigil friday night in heston. they identified the gunman as this man. cedric ford. an employee at xl industries. that is where most of the victims were shot. ford approached her moments

facility. >> i saw he had a big machine gun. i went blank. what do i do? >> that woman says that she slid down inside of her car and managed to drive off. officials say that ford first fired shots at an intersection in heston hitting a man in his car. he forced another driver off the road, got him out of the vehicle and shot him in the leg and took that mans car. ford ended up at his workplace where he shot 15 people. killing three of them. police shot and killed ford. a woman was charged friday for giving ford the guns he used in that attack. he was a felon and barred from possessing any firearms. turning to weather where we are slowly inching up. >> we will get there. it is a cooler start. if you are heading out for sunday services, grab a jacket. just a beautiful start to the day and the sun you are seeing we will see that throughout the afternoon.

after investigators said criminal charges would not be filed against the unicorn county superintendent mary ellis. back in november channel 9 learned the sheriffs office launched an investigation into conflicts of interest. lenovo was in the middle of a contract to sell thousands of laptops to the school district. the investigation found that ellis did not profit from that deal. the irs says there are more people impacted by last years data breach than originally expected. at 7:45, the help the agency will offer this week and the steps they have taken to prevent another breach. >> enjoy a sunny afternoon and it will be warmer with ice in the mid 60s today. ly show you how long the warmth will stick around and when we

seven times larger than initially thought. cyber criminals used a tool on its website to steal forms. the irs originally said 100,000 people were impacted but that number has jumped to 720,000. the agency says it will warn people impacted about potential identity theft and offer them free credit protection. the irs says since disabled the online tool the hackers used to get taxpayers personal information. plenty of new taxes go into effect tuesday. as part of north carolina's ongoing news toward consumption taxes rather than personal income taxes. it will impose a 4.75 state tax. to see a folate tailed list of the taxes going into effect this week, go to our website wsoctv.com. you can find the information

an ohio woman contracted the zika virus back in december when she was working in haiti. she started feeling sick toward the end of her trip but that was months ago and that was before anyone knew really anything about what the zika virus was. >> i was hotter than usual and looked in the mirror and saw a rash that was starting right here. >> she has been volunteering for decades and she has contracted at least four mosquito born illnesses over the years. the most serious risk is a possible link to birth defects. women who are pregnant or plan to get pregnant are are being warned to stay out of high risk countries. if a pregnant woman contracts the virus, they are researching a possible link that the baby could be born with on normally small head or with brain defects. the virus could cause paralysis will in adults. so far brazil has been the
