in south charlotte, a tow truck driver shot a man while on the job. what we are learning that led to the shootings and what police are telling us about the victims. thank you for joining us. i'm britney johnson. our saturday is off to a chilly start but we could have a warmup coming our way. >> that's right. we started in the low 30s and we are in the 50s now here in in already. more clouds build in the upper 50s. we have some changes on the way. tracking this system about 200 miles northwest of charlotte that's approachingment the storm threat will stay low. which neighborhoods have the best chance of rain, coming up in the next half hour. we begin with new

morning shooting in south charlotte. police confirm one man was shot after an argument with a tow truck driver. >> reporter: neighbors say it a boot on it. you need a permit to park in this lot but no one expected this to end in a shooting. police say the tow truck driver shot the owner of the red truck but hasn't said what led up to the confrontation. one woman said she saw the tow truck driver pointing the gun at the man after he shot him. the man who was shot went to the hospital on his own.

man outside fired shots at the vehicle. >> he was just a baby. he didn't deserve this. we just want justice to be served. >> police say this is the city's first homicide of the year and they are still search, for the person responsible. justice for charlotte hosted this rally last night. the group said cmpd has a history of using excessive force. this is the video that prompted that rally. seven officers pinned this hit- and-run suspect down and one was seen punching him.

the department is investigating. community leaders are pushing for davidson, huntersville and cornelius town boards to show support for neighborhood schools and school choice. the mayor says they want to deliver the resolutions to the cms school board on tuesday. cms board members are reviewing the student assignment plan to be sure students have equal opportunities. some worry it would require their children to move to schools outside their neighborhood. on monday donald trump will be in concord for a rally at noon at the convention center. he'll then leave for mississippi. today is being called super saturday because voters in five states will cast ballots. both parties vote in kansas and louisiana. republicans caucus in kentucky and maine, and democrats caucus

copper creek court where it started. the victim was taken to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. they have not released the person's name or if a suspect is in custody. police are searching for a suspect who drove a car through a rite-aid around 4:00 a.m. yesterday morning. police say the driver stole 20 packs of cigarettes and caused $30,000 in damage. they are reviewing surveillance video from the store but don't have a suspect right now. a farmers market preparing to open in april suffered hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage after a major fire. we could see the flames shooting through a warehouse roof and even spotted the thick smoke from uptown charlotte, nearly an hour's drive away. firefighters believe someone was burning trash and strong winds caused the fire to spread.

traveling from miami to massachusetts pulled over because of a gas smell. investigators say alberto perez rigged pepper spray inside the truck and used gps to track its location. >> perez was arrested this week in florida. he's expected in federal court on tuesday. agents are still looking for his two polices. there is a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. parents are concerned after they say a fourth grader brought a gun inside a mt. pleasant elementary school on friday. we spoke to parents who say the student had the gun all day long. the school confirms a student alerted a teacher about the

are going to warm into the upper 50s. this will be a little cool for this time of year. the mountains will be in the mid- to upper 40s by 4:00, 5:00. if you have plans this evening, i told you we have a threat for a few isolated showers. it's not going to last very long. if you're heading to the checkers game, grab the rain gear just in case. not everybody will see that rainfall. this is still act 200 miles northwest of charlotte. this will continue to approach as we go throughout the afternoon and that could mean showers in the evening. starting to see the rain arriving in the mountains by 5:00, 6:00. then it will make a line toward charlotte closer to 8:00, 9:00 tonight. as it approaches, it will fall apart.

through the overnight hours, clearing out. by 6:00 tomorrow morning, you might be waking up and not even realize we had rain passing through. that's how fast this system is approaching. it's going to be even warmer with highs in the lower 60s and winds out of the northwest 5 to 10 miles an hour. over the next several days, this is the warmup, highs in the mid-70s, well above average. and we don't have the threat for rain till the end of next week. if you're like me and you've been sneezing more recently, could be thanks to allergies. pollen counts are starting to go up, especially maple trees. the end of next week will be our next chance of rain, other than tonight. with that in mind, download our weather app and track the showers as they approach tonight, especially if you have

in flint, michigan. today crews replaced the first lead service line with a copper pipe. the national guard are helping replace more than 13,000 lines. this is new video of the progress. flint's water crisis began after the city switched to water from the flint river in 2014 to save money. replacing all the pipes is expected to cost about $55 million. the mayor appealed to the governor and federal officials for funding help. we have all changed our password to be sure our information is secure. now experts are saying that may make it easier for hackers to get our information. the chief technologist at the consumer watchdog said the more often we change the passwords, the more likely we start coming up with bad ones. >> because people will change their passwords in predictable
