for now - but the roads are wet out there. right now let s head to chief meteorologist patrick rockey - he )s here now with more on what you can expect in your neighborhood. tracking rain, snow and gusty winds....we re keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that will move in from the west tonight. as the low approaches the area, scattered rain will begin moving in. now, most of hampton roads and northeastern north carolina will have above freezing temperatures at the onset of this event. however, some of our temperatures will be marginal for a few of our inland and northern communities, which could support snow to mix in through early friday morning. some snow accumulations can be expected during this event but will likely be limited because of the rain. so areas near sussex, surry, williamsburg- james city co., gloucester.

northern eastern shore could see about 1-2"of snow. however, some of our forecast models are hinting at higher amounts of snow over portions of the middle peninsula and the northern neck, possibly up to 3". even higher snow totals are richmond. viewing area, this will be a event. we would not be surprised if a few snowflakes mixed in with the rain at times, but overall, it will be rain. some of the rain could be heavy at times late tonight through friday morning, capable of leading to ponding on roads. other than the potential for rain and snow, the winds will be howling once the low moves offshore and strengthens. winds will blow in from the north-northeast between 20 and 30 mph friday, with gusts up to 40 mph. watch out for some tidal flooding. high tide at sewells point friday will be at 4:47 a.m. and 5:05 p.m. the rain will push out through the day friday, with gradual clearing expected. by saturday, we )ll see some sunshine between the clouds. however, a couple of isolated showers will remain possible late saturday into early sunday. high temperatures on friday will be in the mid 40s. we )ll be in the upper 40s saturday and sunday, and by next week, temperatures

new tonight a hampton man says he came face-to-face with a car tire yesterday when he was run over outside of a fast food restaurant. thankfully, he is ok -- he spoke with newschannel 3 )s allison mechanic today. and is asking for your help to find the person who ran him over. 17:21:03 i was face to face with a tire and thought i was dead almost. it was definitely terrifying. phillip reed was out riding his bike near this taco bell on grimes road in hampton yesterday -- when a white mini van -- ran him over. 17:20:28 it caught my front wheel and drug me under the car and the back-end ran over my arm and my leg police say the driver was exiting the fast food restaurant when it ran phillip over. but instead of stopping -- police say the

leaving phillip laying on the 17:21:55 i was scared. i thought that was the end of me. stand up phillip says he was in complete shock after the accident -- and didn )t know what to do -- thankfully a everything that happened -- and took action to help. 17:26:47 they went to look for the guys and couldnt find them and helped me call the cops so i do want to thank them they helped me get through it. thankfully -- phillip wasn )t seriously injured in the hit and run. he is sore -- and he has a large scratch on his back -- but otherwise he is ok. his bike is though -- is another story. 17:24:25 it put my handle bars sideways, it dropped off where the forks are. the bars are crooked and bent. phillip is already fixing his bike -- but in the meantime he desperately wants to know who is responsible for running him over and why they drove off instead of trying to help. 17:23:30 i know they didnt do it on purpose but the fact of the matter is they left me. they didnt come back they didnt make sure i was ok. how do you run someone over and not see if they are ok? tag if you can help phillip and his family find out who is responsible for this hit and run police ask that you take action

in hampton i m allison mechanic newschannel 3. a suffolk family - in mourning, for the first time tonight - they re talking to us about their father - found murdered in a cemetery this week. on tuesday -- suffolk police found 42-year- old wayne watford at the pleasant hill cemetary around 1-30 in the morning. the medical examiner says he died from several gunshot wounds to his back. watford s son tells newschannel 3 -- his father did serve jail time on and off -- but never got into the kind of trouble -- that would lead to this. he says he knew something was wrong when he never got a phone call from his dad on his birthday a few days ago. a city spokesperson would not say if suffolk police believe someone murdered watford at the cemetery -- or if someone dumped his body there. anyone with information is

they )re running for mayor -- including a businessman named shannon glover. the ection is in november. live in the control room, brendan ponton newschannel 3. new details virginia could soon fine drivers who smoke with kids in the car. today the state senate passed a bill imposing a 100 dollar fine on drivers who smoke in a vehicle with a child younger than eight. the house already passed the bill. supporters say second-hand smoke poses health risks to kids. police would not be able to pull drivers over for lighting up, it would be a secondary offense. six other states have similar bans. governor mcauliffe has not said yet if he will sign the bill into law. in newport news: two men - sent to the hospital following shootings in newport news-- one is fighting for his life. police got the call to jefferson avenue where one victim told police he was standing outside when he heard gunshots, then realized he was shot in the leg. this all happened right around 12-30 in the morning.
