[ music ] ? ? ? ? who is playing tricks on me? almost that time of year. i went and saw, disen [chanting]
9:01 am
gone bad. afterward we got to meet many of the princesses and the cast which was funny. they were so fantastic. i went with my friend amanda and they were it was so hilarious i'm not kidding i think every woman needs to go see it. it's hilarious. as long as you have a good sense of humor. [laughter] >> that's awesome. like i said i have seen the i think a lot of time when is people do spoofs on stuff like that because everything you have heard it has been engrained with all of the doesny stuff and all -- disney stuff and all of that to see someone blow that up. >> little mermaid is drunk. it's hilarious. it's really great. >> speaking of princesses, princess is no longer the top halloween costume are you surprised by that? >> i think it's always going to be popular with really young
9:02 am
surprised at all. >> it is number two still. the top costume for 2016 is super heros. >> yeah. >> also, probably because a lot of the movies out this year, but super heros like "batman" and all of that. >> love it. >> that is cool. >> you get a kick out of scaring people. >> i do get a kick out of scaring people. i hate to be scared myself. if someone scares me like my kids i'm like mad. i'm instantly upset like don't scare me. because i need a minute t down, but lately, i just had these unbelievable opportunities at home to scare my kids just like as one example, -- >> you're rotten. >> my 17-year-old daughter was alope he heard her blow drying her hair upstairs nobody was at home. i got home tip towed up the stairs went into the bathroom and was like what up like that. she seriously levitated off the ground and shut the door she was like mom get out of here. i opened the door and i was like
9:03 am
because i hate to be scared, but i'm like the look on your face and the way you jumped was so awesome. >> you know it's going to come back ten fold. >> i hope not. >> we used to scare my mom all the time. she would hate it because she's so easy to scare. i am easy to scare too i hate being scared it drives me nuts. i even make people message me when they come to visit so they don't scare me just when they knock on the door. i don't watch scary because those images stick with you for so long. i scared my son too he didn't appreciate it either. i think it's a good question, do you like to be scared. tell us what you think. it's just as basic as that. is it fun to be scared or no? >> i looked at science behind being scared. i have the information at my desk. [laughter] the point is some people do like
9:04 am
being scared. some people enjoy it. there is exposure therapy which people have heard about it in psychology. if you watch scary things as a child you will be less scared of them they claim because you have learned to rationalize that fear. like extreme sports people. they can do an extreme sport once they figure out they don't die they know they are less scared the next time. >> interesting. >> didn't you say too there are two main things or two real things that we're actuall afraid of in life. >> there are two things we're born afraid of. one is falling two is loud sounds. they have tested those two things. >> think about it with babies. think about it. >> a lot of people remember that famous research study we they put the babies out to go on this plexiglass which would mimic them going over the cliff and the babies wouldn't do it. >> that's fascinating. very interesting. >> the only two fears we're predy supposed to or born with
9:05 am
>> i think when you scare someone or see it on tv you can tell almost immediately by someone's reaction if they like it or not. some people will be like and laugh. or they will be like they scared me i'm immediately mad. you know. i wanted to share something transitioning a little bit, this is for all of the grandparents out there. my parents included. it turns out that research proves it is good for grandma to baby-sit the kids. this is fantastic. just another way to convince em weekend. they say it doesn't just add joy to your life, it can also help the grandparent in their golden years. the big research study grandmother who is help with childcare at least one day a week scored better on cognitive test so they are less likely to get dementia and alzheimer's. and there was a study conducted by the women's healthy aging project that administered
9:06 am
they also said too much baby-sitting can backfire. grandmother who is baby sat five or more times a week not so good. >> et c it's exhausting i'm sur. >> absolutely. spending time with grandparents grandparentsis really good for s well. it's great to talk about how it benefits grandma, but the kids too spending time with grandmas at least once a week is a win kids are better off for hear being history and getting a new perspective. do you like to be scared is our soundoff. we look forward to hearing your responses. >> i like that. >> do you like, you don't like to be scared right? >> i hate it. i used to be scared as many times as scooby doo. [laughter] >> not a lot of people are scared of scooby doo, but i
9:07 am
we have a special treat for you today. bango was going to be joining us because this saturday is the 40th anniversary of the macc fund game. it's a super fun preseason game. >> that's true. >> all right. >> we'll talk about that in a little bit. we're going to give away tickets to the game too. now we're going to help you get your glow back. we're all about helping you put your best face forward. today's skincare products made with green tea that are effective and a dr. anne riordan is a md and board certified dermatologist and the creator of azfasst. >> i can tell you from trying these one of the things that makes them fantastic is how wonderful they smell. we're all about the smell. makeup and products. like hair spray. >> absolutely. >> skincare too. >> part of it it makes you use them more. you want that morning burst when you use it in the morning they
9:08 am
and get you going and you also look fabulous. >> i like that. >> fabulous for the day. >> tell us about why you developed this. this is really your baby. >> absolutely. it started because so many of my patients could not figure out what to use in the drug store. there are so many products so many ingredients they weren't sure what to use based on their skin type, what their issues were and things like that. i pulled together using green tea and organic products botanical green tea products we have in address a whole host of skin issues that people have to deal with like enlarged pours, sun spots, the eye cream helps with the crow's feet and the dark circles, helps with the redness that a lot of people get and it is easy. it's the cleanser, the facial gel, the moisturizer we even have a product for sensitive skin folks that have a hard time using products. and it has been tremendous. >> you mentioned the green tea,
9:09 am
truly unique or is there something else? we all know the benefits of drinking green tea. >> that's what makes the product unique. there are other ingredients for example, the facial gel has salasilic acid that helps tighten the pores. and exfoliate. that gives the skin that glow. >> i love it. a lot of problems it can address. i acne too. >> that's the great thing about it it does help to shrink pours and get rid of the oil also diminishes a lot of the inflammation that's where the green tea component comes in to get rid of the redness. >> people always wonder when they start something new what are the steps? >> the steps are so easy. i mean i have a big dermatology practice and so i don't have a
9:10 am
so, the steps are real simple. there is the cleanser, the facial gel and moisturizer. the cleanser has no perfumes or preservatives in it. that goes for all of the products it is really easy and gets all of your makeup off. then the facial gel it dries quickly. then you can put the moisturizer on it is real light, but also really hydrates your skin so it makes a perfect palette for your makeup when you go to apply it. >> i love that. how soon can you see when you use a product like this? >> most people will notice a difference in 7 to 10 days. >> you can see these are my patients i took before and after photos of and you can see this was a real big outdoors woman. she liked to cycle did not like the brown spots she got after the summer. started to use the azfasst facial gel and the complete skincare line. big difference in about a month. >> that's fast. when you think about it working and this one too i think because you talk about the age spots as
9:11 am
i have rosacia so i'm in touch with how this works especially when not wearing makeup. are you a fan of still using spf? >> absolutely i'm a dermatologist. that's the biggest antiager people should do anyway. spf, i tell people minimum of an spf30 when you're outside in direct sunlight, reapply every two hours when you're out. but just get it into your morning routine as well. i think that's real important. routine sort of being healthy. >> are these different products or the same ones? >> these are this is the eye cream which you saw in the first before and after that shows the tremendous improvement in the crow's feet. >> yeah those wrinkles there. >> this is the sensitive skin facial gel for the sensitive skin folks that i mentioned that have a hard time using different products and are afraid they don't want to get irritated that is also there. this is our gift set which is wonderful for you know,
9:12 am
anything that comes up or people give the gift of skincare. >> and the step i use was the three piece set. that must include the cleanser, and i use the gel as well as the moisturizer. that is one of your best sellers right? >> it's complete. it is easy, it is all there in a complete set includes all three products so that way you can just go through your three step process in the morning and at night. you are set to go. how can people purchase the product? >> we recommend, people go to can purchase it there and i think we also have a great deal that we're offering for your viewers. >> yeah you do that's fun. we should tell people about the spelling of it too. i don't know if there is a reason for the name, but it has a unique spelling. >> it does. the reason is because when i developed the name, most people want to get their skin as clear as fast as possible. that's why we said azfasst. >> i love that. >> i like that too.
9:13 am
i like that. here is the special you are offering to morning blend viewers thank you so much. there is a coupon code you should use when you go online to make the purchase. that coupon code simply is morning blend. will you receive 30% off of all of your purchases as well as free shipping. so go to this website it is azfasst.com to place your order be sure to enter that coupon code for 30% off. you can also call (888)554-5754. great to meet you thank you for sharing your product. >> thank you so much for being here. >> you both have beautiful skin. >> thank you. >> you smell great too. you really have beautiful skin. thank you tier. still ahead on the show, if you are on medicare and worried about decisions you will be making with open enrollment coming up this weekend be sure to stay tuned we're going to help ease anxiety with answers you need and a way to save money

9:17 am
shop around for the best deals. if you're on medicare your black friday starts in three days. class is in session. it is time for insurance 101 with sovereign select. tom qualley is here to chat about open enrollment which starts on saturday. >> that's a good comparison. open enrollment to black friday. >> this is the time right? >> it really is. >> it's a big deal, people wait for this anticipate it, get nervous, but it is coming up on saturday. what does that mean for people on medicare or new to it? >> what is reallyoo open enrollment it really is a law that people can, people should and can take advantage of every single year for 7 weeks. >> uh-huh. >> from october 15 to december 7. people that have their medicare supplement, their medicare advantage plan, or their part d prescription drug plan can go shop around, call sovereign select that's the best way to shop around, call sovereign select shop around to different medicare advantage plans and part d prescription drug plans
9:18 am
there something i can do to put me in a better situation than i am now. >> that's the big deal that's why it is like black friday. are you saving so much money potentially just by changing where you get the same benefit. how often do you see that people are truly saving cash? >> well, every day. you know, we see it every day. this year specifically for open enrollment a little history on open enrollment for us even, the last few years even the last five years the market has been very very ste >> i remember you saying that. >> where everything has been kind of the same over and over you kind of mostly deal with people that are new to medicare. even during open enrollment. this year there is just an explosion of new plans and really exciting things that are actually out there for people to actually look at. so people that have been on the same plan for years and years this year can say i'm going to call sovereign select because they have all of the plans that
9:19 am
there is all of these new plans let's check them out. >> i love that's what you do. each year you have been here taltalk about it you don't cause this mass chaos saying you got to check, you got to check. you have said hey it is pretty much the same, but i will check it out for you anyway. this year you are saying it's a whole new ballgame. >> this year we like to cause mass chaos a little bit. >> there is a lot more going on. when people call you what is the step? what happens? >> first thing we're going to we're going to figure out where they live, kind of what their medications are, what their specific needs are. kind of, as a whole. you know whether it is financial needs, prescription needs, health needs et cetera and figure out what their current situation is. maybe they are on a group insurance plan for a employer or previous employer, maybe they are losing that. maybe they are on a medication advantage plan or supplement or
9:20 am
and basically what we're going to do is just take all of that information, and work that through a system, that is going to tell us okay, well our own system that's going to tell us well, what is the better plan that can make their situation better is it going to save them some money? or not? >> yeah. >> or is it best to stay with the current situation they are in? >> one of the things i like about from working with you on the insurance aspect you will give options. you say these are the best options and this is my with them before or you know this really seems to meet your priority the best. because that is what is so confusing for people. there is so much information and so just to figure out gosh this is what i need or this is what i don't need you really break it down for people. >> and a big one these days is simply are my doctors covered? >> and are my prescriptions covered? >> if we can get those two things narrowed down we can really kind of open up the door. >> so important when you have spent your whole life with one
9:21 am
switch because they are not included. let's talk about these group events you hold. i think they are so valuable for people to understand some information. starting with your event your first ones which are the medicare 101's, these are educational only. >> these are more geared towards people that are brand-new to medicare, if they are turning 65, disabled and becoming new to medicare, or if they are retiring and losing some sort of group health insurance or even want to look at well what are the otherio continuing some sort of group or retiree health plan, these are going to help kind of really break that down. we're going to educate a person on or a group of people on part a of medicare, part b, c, d, and medicare supplements and kind of how they all work. these are strictly educational so they don't show any specific products. we don't try to you know sell anybody anything. so they are very just educational and community based. >> how about the next one.
9:22 am
advantage group meetings these have a licensed agent you will provide specific plans. >> yes. so this one, i'm actually presenting these meetings myself. which is fun. i love doing those. and these meetings we're actually we do these every year basically during open enrollment only and they are really just to showcase all of the new plans that are available during open enrollment for people to choose from for the following year. >> i love it. >> which is really nice. >> so >> especially this year with all of the new plans. >> all of the new stuff. you don't want to be confused call tom at sovereign select. medicare 101 educational meetings are every friday at 10:00 a.m. these are educational only you do need to call to reserve a spot if you can seating is limited. here's the medicare advantage group meetings taking place on october 18, 19, 25, and 26 at 11:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. a licensed agent is going to be there.

9:26 am

9:27 am
comfort foods things that are a little more hearty. >> yes. today i'm doing for porktober we're doing featuring our angry orchard hard cider. made it with a glaze like with brown sugar and cooked them to a nice glaze for these nice pork kabobs i have here. >> those are big boys over there. i think that is one of the things you want. you think about a kabob i think of a little more small appetizer size these are not. these are the size of an arm. >> yes they are. [laughter] >> they are pretty to say. >> what do you have skewered on there? >> pork loin, cut it into cubes 1-inch and it fits nice on the skewer. fresh pineapple, fresh bell peppers, red onion and cherry tomato. >> so bright and colorful too. >> perfect for fall. >> the glaze has the hard apple cider on it right? >> yup. brown sugar, a little soy. >> how are you supposed to eat a
9:28 am
is there a rule? >> you can pick it up. >> kevin has mine already taken apart because i don't like wood in my food. >> molly has a thing against food. >> i'm going to taste one of the peppers this looks delicious. >> that pork is so good. >> it looks like -- >> wheat. >> is it moist too. a lot of times i feel like pork can get dry. >> mmm. >> i don't know about that word. >> is this on the menu? >> this is for the last week o october we're featuring this one. >> what is on for this week? >> this week we have smoked pork loin. it's like a cream sauce. >> okay so this is something people can look forward to a little later in the month? >> yes. >> yummy. this is good. you serve it up with a little white rice? >> yup. jasmine rice yeah. >> delicious. >> you got a new bar. >> yeah. >> a new bar. >> redid it all. what have people been saying about it? >> just opens it up so much and it is so much brighter and
9:29 am
>> a lot more inviting it's beautiful. >> it does. a fun place to gather i would think. you have a new bar that we're looking at right there. you have also got a new salad bar too? what kinds of things are on the salad bar? this is real open too. >> very open. got all kinds of different salads probably 15 different salads a chef salad, caesar salad, chicken, ham, turkey all kinds of stuff and you got all of your pasta of that stuff too. >> salad bars are the greatest thing ever if you are an undecisive person like me. everyone i go eat with is always annoyed with me because i want what is on their plate. when you all get salad bar that doesn't happen you can have it all. >> we also have great drink list. it is right here there are fun things here too, like smores, martini. eye crush coffee. a spiked root beer. they have a carmel apple
9:30 am
a bacon bloody mary. apple cider mimosa sounds great. with a sin cinnamon sugar rim. >> yummy. >> celebrating porktober all month long in october. make sure to try the specialty of the week. for both lunch and dinner. you will feature the pork specialty. wonderful. >> happy porktober. >> thank visit new bar, new salad bar, great features for porktober. machine shed.com is the website. they have two locations one in pewaukee the other one in appleton. thank you so much kevin. great to see you. >> totally up my alley fantastic. why right now might be the perfect time to level up your college degree. and meet lisa she works as the manager at a convenience store where she is surrounded by candy and chips and soda.

9:34 am
the past ten years. she used to be so active and thin so it was devastating to her. lisa also manages a convenience store where she is tempted by candy, chips and soda all day long. despite that she managed to lose 30 pounds and today she is here to let you in on her secret. meet lisa and her health coach jen mccommons, she is with 855-burn-fat and nutrimost. great to see you guys. thank you so much. i love sharing your story because you have basically every challenge in the book especially with where let's start first jen with nutrimost and 855-burn-fat. this is state-of-the-art technology that you use and people are getting results like lisa, that are truly life-changing. >> absolutely. with 855-burn-fat, we're able to individualize a program for each person and it is not a cookie cutter program. so you come in, we are able to give you information about your body you don't have any other way of getting. we're able to tell you what is going on with your body and when you sign up for the program and lifestyle changes we're able to
9:35 am
know work best with your body. we're able to tell you what is happening with the system that is causing your metabolism to slow down. we're able to give you the tools to get the weight off and help you to identify what foods long-term help you keep the weight off. >> which is huge. you are seeing amazing results. you have even all of the before and after pictures which are incredible including lisa when we look at her before photos and after. you lost almost 30 pounds, congratulations to you. tell us why you wanted this? to do this? >> i was feeling terrible. i was overweight hard to pick out clothes where you didn't feel terrible in them. when i saw pictures of myself that was the final thing. hi been watching the morning blend i saw nutrimost on here lots of times. i always thought i should call. i should call then i saw those pictures and it was like i have to call. >> sometimes looking at pictures
9:36 am
of time the pounds how they creep on and you see pictures it's like a wakeup call isn't it? >> it's a still shot of all of the rolls. >> yes. >> and i know you work you manage a convenience store. you are always around stuff that is easy and quick to grab. it's like candy, chips, soda those are all huge temptations. >> once you start getting on a program, you start eating healthy and you see results, it is really easy to make those healthy choices instead of continuing to grab candy or soda. >> yeah and to do that healthy thing. and the nutrimost program is supposed to help curb the cravings like the one lisa is talking about right? >> it does. one of the things that happens is we're eating a lot of foods, it's the responsible thing for how we're feeling bad. if you are tired at the end of the day. if you have sugar cravings in the middle of the day or food cravings what is happening most of the times with carbs we eat something and it goes up down
9:37 am
coaster. you are eating things that are more table your blood sugar stay more stable throughout the day. that's a common thing. once you start eating food that tastes good, it is so much better and we want those foods then. >> true or false, jen you encourage people to get on the scale every day? >> true. >> why is that? >> accountability and also seeing results. when you see you are losing a half-pound, a pound a day, we're talking about 30 pounds in 40 >> that's a lot. and those are changes that make you feel so much better so fast. when you're trying to lose a pound a week, you get distracted. you get discouraged it is hard to do. but when you lose ten pound that's a pant size. when you drop a pant size in one or two weeks you're like i'm not going back and get rid of those pants immediately. >> that's good advice. >> it gives you the safety of having that to go back to. >> you got on the scale he was day and still do right? >> every day.
9:38 am
i get up in the morning it's the first thing i do. i am somebody that always needed immediate results so, it was very easy to stick on this program because every day you got on the scale and it was like oh, i lost a pound i lost two pounds. and it really kept you focused. >> it's a good feeling. we're going to take a look at the before and after pictures. as we mentioned you lost 28 pounds you're maintaining and haven't gained a single pound back right? >> no i have not. >> that isma you also had health issues that were resolved right? >> i had high blood pressure it runs in my family. i to the point where i'm just about off my meds with that. my blood pressure has been very good. i check it daily because i want to get off of that. >> good for you. >> it's been exciting. >> that's a great feeling. your energy level is higher? >> oh, gosh yeah i opened a brand-new store. i don't think i would have been able to do that i was working a lot of hours and i worked several days
9:39 am
been able to maintain doing that the way i felt before it has been great for me. >> do you get any reaction from family and friends? >> my mother was so happy i did this. she started to say oh, my daughter is back. she could see my face again and stuff she was concerned about me because she felt like i was getting bloated looking and stuff so -- >> cute. >> she was very happy. >> that's awesome. have you a 20-pound guarantee at nutrimost and 855-burn-fat right? >> we do. we're going to get the weight off for you and help that. so we are one of the only programs that does that guarantee and that means that we will work with you until you get to that 20 pounds. >> that's awesome. >> you recommend the program? >> absolutely. >> absolutely i recommend it to anybody. >> and your coach really helps you through it right? >> yes they are wonderful people there. everybody is happy, everybody is nice, everybody is supportive it's a great program. >> and a beautiful new office too in wauwatosa real close to mayfair mall.

9:43 am
9:44 am
we're thrilled to welcome jonathan cabrera along with christy nyemeck to the yellow couch. thanks for being back you guys. nice to meet you too. let's talk about why you have gone back to leveling up your degree. >> a lot of people start with diploma or associate's degree and want to move up to the next one. it's really taking the credits that you have already done and transferring it into that next degree. >> getting a higher degree. >> give us an example of a >> anything in the healthcare field as far as like you could have an associate's in physical thank assistant or associate's in massage therapy. you could level up to a bachelor's in healthcare management. >> gotcha. >> which is exactly what you did. so let's talk a little bit about your story jonathan. you are currently a nursing student right? you already are a graduate with a diploma in massage therapy as well as an associate's in healthcare management.
9:45 am
acquiring degrees right? no. >> i'm leveling up. [laughter] >> how does this work for you why did you make the decision to keep going? >> i found in massage i liked the anatomy and physiology, i wanted to keep that going. with the associate's in healthcare management i was able to keep going while making up my mind what i wanted to do. it helped me with gened and i went right into nursing. i found i like it there are options for m your time at herzing and maybe the support you got as well. >> it has been the comfort i'm the kind of student that likes to sit back and listen to the teacher you know, let them preach and if i have any questions i like to be heard. that's definitely what you get in the classes at herzing. they are small enough where you get the attention, but large enough where, you have interaction with the students, with the teacher. >> christy what is it for you
9:46 am
makes him a great example of herzing and what you want to share with other people? >> well, jonathan is amazing. he's been around. i feel like forever. [laughter] >> he's going to be our lifelong student. [laughter] >> but, i mean, he just has a lot of drive. and he keeps adding onto what he is doing. i'm just really proud of him too. because, he's amazing. [laughter] >> that is great. >> and you have recently been awarded a full scholarship right? >> yes. >> talk about that and what nurse core is, for you? >> nurse core i think, the main idea for them is to get nurses in needed communities. anybody interested in going to the nursing field looking into that scholarship there are requirements they have to go through and look at. i mean it's definitely worth all of the work you put into it and nurse corps needs more nurses all around. >> do you help students find scholarships like that? >> yeah.
9:47 am
up and everything. we were so excited to for him to win. it's a full ride and yeah. >> [laughter] >> that's awesome. >> and do you work in the financial aid office as well? >> i work at the front desk. >> so you help other students kind of you're that face they see when they are coming for financial aid because i would assume a lot of people when they are going to school they need financial help to pursue the degree they want or to level up to the agree they want. >> absolutely. i don't know t question i know where to lead them to. but everybody there yeah is very helpful from the front desk, myself, danielle is the educational funding director helping me with all of the scholarship information so everybody plays a role. important role. >> what about in finding a job and that placement after they have the degree. let's say they level up what is next? do you supply support for that as well? >> yeah absolutely.
