tampa is back open after a deadly car crash. at least four people were killed. this happened around 9:45 wednesday night. this was the scene near coconut palm drive east of the tampa bypass canal. the road was closed for several hours. a getting more information and we'll keep you updated right here on 10 news. it's a story that makes your stomach turn. a 16 year old accused of molesting a 6-year old boy in a department store bathroom. as if that's not bad enough, today - it gets worse! the most recent victim says the teen touched him in the tarpon springs tj maxx bathroom. now, police tell 10news that 2 kids in hillsborough and 4 in pasco claim they're victims of the same accused

one victim's mom tells reporter kendra conlon, she's outraged the potential predator wasn't stopped sooner. it's a story you'll see only on 10 news. the mother of the 6 year old boy... who police say was fondled here in the tjmaxx bathroom... is in shock. her son's accused attacker... 16 year old daniel mcnulty - who we're now naming because he's charged as adult - may have done something similar to 6 other kids. prosecutors have now decided - the 16 year old who we're told has some form of autism... will face the felony molestation charge - in adult court. mcnulty's aunt and guardian patricia short says it's not right. but did evidence of

year old says mcnulty tried to take a picture of his private parts with an ipad. police tell me mcnulty's guardian claimed the ipad had been dropped and damaged so she threw it out. because investigators couldn't prove the damaged tablet was still on the property or in the .. couldn't get a search warrant - to try to recover pictures of any possible victims. the teen's now facing very adult consequences - possibly prison time. kendra conlon, 10news wtsp. today, the 16 year old remains in juvenile jail - until he faces a judge in adult court november 7th. police are working the other reported cases with hillsborough and pasco investigators and ask any other victims to come

two strong earthquakes rocked parts of central italy. take a look as this old churches in crumbles. the tremors happened just two hours apart. the second one a magnitude 6- point-1 was even stronger than the first. there are early reports of people being hurt, but it's too early and too dark, to know just how bad it is. both struck near a town called "visso." it's about 50 miles north of where a deadly earthquake hit in august. the quake could be felt as far away as rome, which is more than 90 miles to the south. it's not yet confirmed if these are new quakes-- or aftershocks from a devastating 6- point-2 magnitude earthquake back in august. nearly 300 people were killed-- and a "hilltop village" was destroyed. hillary clinton knows florida is a must-win state. while campaigning in tampa, she made a big promise that could have a lasting impact for not only our area, but the entire state.

state changed the law to ensure future fairness. but the man we profiled still sits in jail. 10 investigates noah pransky spoke with his family who wonder when he'll ever be coming home. for every criminal whose sentence may not be harsh enough... there's someone like erik weyant; a felon serving a sentence so severe... you have to wonder who ever writes the laws. "two seconds of his life....took 20 years away from him..." "...from all of us." erik's mother, linda, wonders every day how a quick dispute outside a lakeland bar translated into a mandatory 20- year-sentence without parole. "he hurt no one. other than himself." once a jury found erik guilty in 2007 of firing his gun as he left a late-night altercation - even though there was no intent to kill anyone - a judge had no choice but to sentence the 23- year-old small- business owner to two decades behind bars...with no chance for parole. and even though the legislature has since removed aggravated assault from its tough-on- crime '10-20-life' law.....

retroactive. so erik will sit in jail for 11 more years...until he's 43....unless the governor and cabinet decide to commute his sentence. "it's precisely the kind of case that we would review, investigate, do our own homework, get a more full picture of it, and if it merits it, move it to the top of the list to be considered by the clemency board." florida's agricultural commissioner, adam putnam, was among the cabinet members 10investigates brought up to speed on erik's now 9- year-old sentance. we also took it to offices of the governor, cfo, and attorney general. because the law in 2007 didn't give judges any discretion to issue appropriate sentences. and now they do. "really all we're asking for is to review the case. greg newburn is with the nonprofit, "families against mandatory minimums." "i think erik's paid more than enough 9 years in prison for a crime where nobody was injured, uh, i think he's paid his debt." but first, the governor or a cabinet member would have to nominate erik's case for review. working in his

citizen in jail; - nobody was hurt in the incident; - and, the legislature, governor, nra, and florida sheriff's association all agreed last year that the state's "10-20-life" mandatory minimum law was not intended to include cases like erik's. "no one should be judged by the worst mistake they've ever made." meanwhile, back at home... after nine years of celebrating erik's prison milestones.... mom linda is anxious to go back to celebrating more traditional worrying about the more traditional concerns: "well, if he can find someone that he really loves and start a new family before i'm too old. i'm already there.
