responding. >> reporter: donald trump continued to hammer hillary clinton over the fbi's discovery of new emails relating to the investigation of her private server. >> i think that's called the mother lode. i think they found them all. >> reporter: cbs news learned the bureau found them on a computer spared by huma abedin and her estranged husband anthony weiner. weiner is having investigated for allegedly sending sexually explicit texts to an underage going to say thank you to anthony weiner. >> reporter: but director comey's letter to congress revealing the discovery was vague, saying only that the bureau doesn't know whether the material is significant or not. >> it's strange to put something like that with such little information right before an election. >> reporter: it's not yet clear how the discovery will impact voters' decisions. initial indicators are that it may not change any minds.

yeah, and it's to review whether newly discovered discovered emails passed through the server. cbs news has learned that the emails were discovered earlier this month, but fbi director comey says he didn't find out about them until last thursday. the latest on the investigation from d.c. >> reporter: cbs news has learned comey has been calling members of congress who demanded that he release more information about the review of the new emails. comey is under fire for making the disclosure 11 days before the election. >> how are the voters? somehow the public supposed to respond to this? there is no way for the public to make an informed judgment. >> reporter: in a letter addressed to the fbi director sunday, democratic senator harry reid accused comey of partisan action and alleged

by violating the hatch act. it bans federal and other government employees from participating in political activities that could help or hurt a partisan group or candidate in a partisan election. investigators seized the laptop belonging to long-time clinton aide huma abedin and estranged husband anthony weiner during a separate probe into weiner's alleged communication with an underaged girl. cbs news learned the fbi deliberated over whether to officials debated whether they would be accused of trying to manipulate the election by hiding the renewed investigation if criminal evidence was found. a person familiar with the process says officials ultimately concluded that the letter was the most credible approach after comey pledged to inform congress if anything new came up related to the investigation into clinton's use of the private email server. >> we would certainly look at any new and substantial

buildings crumbled. it complicated quake relief efforts in an area coping with an aftermath of an august quake that killed 300 people. the manhunt for an accused killer in oklahoma is over after eight days. michael vance died in a police shoot out on sunday. a sheriff was hit in the gunfire. advance is accused of killing two relatives and shooting two police officers. they believe he filmed two facebook live videos documenting his run from police california. it destroyed a three-story condo complex under construction. the fire could be seen for miles. fortunately, no one was hurt. it's halloween and you can see that we have got all the trimings set up for tonight's big festivities. before you head out it's not all about fun and games. 10news reporter emerald morrow joins us in pinellas park this afternoon. she is taking a look at the extremes that some people go to when it comes to safety. >> reporter: getting your

but with all of the creepy clown threats that have popped up all across the country some people here in florida it say they are planning to do some armed trick-or-treating this year. after a few creepy clown sightings and a few threats in brevard county some people say when they take their kids out tonight they are taking whatever they need with them to stay safe. one woman says she is going to have a bat and another is going to be toting a gun just to be on the safe side. she says she is personally terrified of comes to mess with her or her kids she will not hesitate to shoot. but officials say this mentality could put someone who does not mean any harm in danger. it's probably safe to say it's a good idea to stay away from the clown costumes in year. you might think it's a little over the top to take a gun with you to go trick-or-treating, but your best weapon might be in your phone. if you see anything suspicious while you're out, make sure you call police.

the right lane, all that empty pavement on the left just sitting there unused. now some traffic engineers are saying go. use that space. so it's okay to cut? >> yes, it's okay to take turns. >> reporter: kansas is one of eight states to try what's known as the zipper merge system. the state department of transportation put up signs asking drivers to use both lanes and take turns near a bridge construction project outside kansas city. >> they are finding what this does is bring predictability to the commute. they know it takes five to six minutes to get through the work zone even in peak traffic. from the air you can see the cars keep moving and they come together, well, like the piece of a zipper. hence, the zipper merge. several studies point to the benefits of zipper merging, including up to 50% shorter lines, a reduction in speeds around construction workers, and drivers reporting less anxiety and frustration. the transportation officials in

the beach not a single one out there. it is off to a really great start today. those winds are a little bit calmer than they were over the weekend, but they are gonna pick up towards the middle of the week the still on the breezy side out there today. 82 in tampa, 84 degrees in clearwater. we are heading for 87 for our high this afternoon in tampa and the nice mild temperatures as we head through the evening making for some great trick-or- treating weather. so we were just talking on the break. when we were kids and having wear the winter coats over our costumes sometimes, we do not have do that this time around. temperatures from 83 at the cool end to 77. it will be a little bit on the warm side. it will be dry and it will be breezy. so if you have an elaborate hairdo, spray that down. hats. pin them. something like that. that could be the only issue as you're out and about later tonight. if you like the cooler air, it's coming. the jet stream just has to dip first. here you can see that coming in

that's all the way through. the cool polar air is gonna be to our north. this is enough to drive in cooler and drier air just in time for the weekend and just in time for much of the st. pete food and wine festival which kicks off on thursday. and thursday is going to be a little bit on the warm side. not hot by any stretch, but the cooler days are definitely going to be over the weekend. so saturday we're looking for a good amount of breeze out there. gusty winds out of the north about 10 to 15 miles are gonna be possible but plenty of sunshine in the forecast and friday looks largely dry. now, i know this particular model tends to look like, oh my gosh, what are you talking about? this is mostly dry. there is a whole lot of water coming there. the back end breaks up towards the back end to the front, so that's what we're gonna get. a couple spotty showers inland and that's about it. then we enjoy the nice cool temperatures for both saturday and sunday. only a 10 to 20% chance of

>> if you want to put together a spooky floral decoration you can see the entire interview on the "great day tampa bay" facebook page. i had the unique opportunity to judge a drum competition on saturday. it was the drum bash 10.0, and it was so much fun. these kids were amazing. >> you said it was just like watching a performance. >> it was. it was like being at a concert. they were as young as 7 old. that kid in the green shirt, he was an emoji. they had to dress up. these judges are known around the world for their talent and skill, and these kids knew who they were because they are famous drummers. to have them judge the kids and give them feedback, the kids were amazed. they took it all in. this is the winner. she won it all. and she was awesome. she put on a show. she was into it and got the crowd into it and it was really awesome to ab part of it.
