lightning hit a house during the height of the storm. lauren demarco is live outside with the latest. >> shawn, tone yes, i take a look at devastation. you can see debris scattering the lawn herech the house just gutted. this is a home along mid summer drive in gaithersburg. it was hit by lightning and the attic caught fire and it spread. it was pouring at the time and the street was flooded and one neighborhood captured a short video of the flames from inside her home across the street. there was a woman home at the time. fortunately, she heard the boom, saw the smoke and was able to run out and was not hurt. montgomery county fire spokesman pete better ing ger responded and they prevent today from spreading to neighboring homes. this house valued somewhere around a million when you include the contents. it's a total loss. you're about to hear from the woman that shot that cellphone d

across the street. she just pulled up on the way home from work. then you'll hear from a woman that lives behind the house and witnessed that lightning strike. >> i saw it was a cloud of fog from the fire and i could smell the fire actually, too, and then when i parked because i lived across i saw the fire and it was flames that were going and i saw the roof was just completely on fire. >> there was a few booms,ic lieu know lightening in front of our house and i saw huge lightning in the back of the house and i sat down and looked out the window and saw the flames on the roof. >> i hope the communities come together and it helps the family. our hearts go out to them and they lost everything. it shows you in an instant that can happen. >> here is video posted to twitter and you can see the rain coming down hard this storm caused problems from bethesda to gaithersburg and beyond including trees and large branch

this all happening 6 p.m. this evening and pete peringer said the storm wreaked hof of course through the area. >> trees down. we have a number of roads blocked and trees down and wires down and transformer and a lot of conclusions and vehicles anyway and houses struck by lightning and a number of power outages. >> and there was actually a person stuck in the elevator in the bethesda area and they tell me it was a special-needs person. fortunately firefighters could safely get the person out and they were not hurt. back on mid summer drive, agai again, if you look at this devastation it's awful. neighbors keep coming out here and just a few minute ago the woman who was inside was out here with her husband and her son. she says she ran out with nothing on her. so all of their belongings destroyed. except for possibly a few things in the basement and garage. they say they do have a

hypotheticaling earlier today another line might try to develop in pennsylvania. now we see that is developing. frederick and carol county moving from north to south and it does appear to get stronger. we'll keep more storms in the forecast later tonight and all of these little dots indicate where we had a storm damage report. it was either a tree down or a strong wind gust or hail. i'll show you largest hail was around american university 5:25 hail just under sivz inch but more common were reports like this with huge trees coming down on power lines and homes and causing all the problems. and part of the are on the storms were so severe. we got into the low 90s. mid 90s in some areas. tremendous amounts of humidity storms cooled us off nicely in the 70s now. plenty humid and i have to tell you get ready for even hotter day tomorrow. we're forecasting 97 in the district. you know what,
