front yard. there's toys all over. if you look outright here, you can see a try sickle. we're talking crack cocaine, heroin and many other prescription drug, they arrested bruce and elizabeth. in addition to the drug charge, there are also three counts of reckless endangerment. neighbors tell us the couple has kids of their own. one woman spoke to us about hearing cops arrive this morning. >> we heard them door. they were so loud. i immediately looked out the window's and saw that was across the street and i told my husband. there was a handful of cops over there. >> reporter: authorities couldn't tell us how many kids were being taken care of here at the home but they did have social services here this morning. by the way, they say it was a tip from a neighbor that actually led them here and they're encouraging any other neighbors out there he don't see something strange in their

in pasadena maryland, matt ackland, fox 5 news. a put mother from waldorf maryland stands accused of reckless endangerment of her child. police say gadsen left her baby unattended while shopping for wigs at a store in temple hills. now, witnesses say gadsen left her car running with the air conditioning on at least a half hour. a customer saw what was happening. got the baby out of the car. the baby was not police were called and arrested gadsen. the baby is being cared for by family members. a court date today for the prince george's county parents accused of killing their own baby. antwon petty is being held without bond in the death of his three month old son. the baby's mother, genece is charged with accessory after the fact. her bond is $120,000. the couple admitted to the involvement. they told police they buried the

police to that shallow grave. >> this death recommendation a tremendous loss to our community and not only that, but in my mind, represents yet again, another instance where this community has failed to protect the child. this three-month old child was beaten, he suffered and he died and was buried. we believe, at a school near us here at parkdale. >> a relative told police a mother and her baby what last seen september 22'nd. a tightening or deal, a person or persons fired shots on stanton road. no one was hurt but the gunfire hit at least three apartments and six vehicles on the street. investigators estimate at least 50 shots were fired. they say the shooting came in two waves. one around 8:00, and the second around 10:00 p.m. unclear who's responsible.

this was targeted attack or just a random shooting. new tonight, new records obtained by fox 5 show the dc police force shrunk to its lowest level in decades. >> the number of sworn officers with a gun and a badge has fallen hundreds of officers below 3800. that figure, former police chief kathy linear said would be trouble if it ever came to be. paul wagner joins us from northwest with that story. paul? >> reporter: i'm outside the 2nd district station in northwest. as you know, the dc police department struggled to keep up were with a number of resignations and retirements from officers leaving the force for a variety of different reasons. earlier on monday, interim dc police chief went before the city council and said that the size of the force was 3,729

information act request, fox 5 has learned that approximately 270 of those officers to cannot protect and serve because they don't have a badge or a gun. the dc police department is in the middle of a retirement bubble. officials knew it was coming. warnings were issued by the union. now that it's here, the dc city council, the mayor and the interim chief are scrambling to find ways to not only recruit but retain and bring back officers retired. testifying at the dc city council monday interim chief new sham was asked how many officers were available for patrol. >> of the 3,729 sworn officers, you mentioned 250, approximately, are recruits. my question is those who are recruits or within the academy, are they in a position where

yet? >> and that's the number i'm going to have to clarify. it's tough to let you know exactly how many are in the academy. you do know that over the holiday months we bring some of those recruits out of the academy to serve on the holiday to detail >> i've seen them with the 3729 technically does include a number of sworn personnel who are not on the street though >> the ones in the academy, it does include those, yes, sir. >> reporter: in an effort to get a true accounting of how many dc to actually serve and protect in the city, we asked the police department through a freedom of information act request for the actual number of officers who had been assigned firearm. a number in theory that should provide an accurate account. we were told there were 3,459 glock handguns assigned as of july 1st, that's 340 officers under that trouble number of

police in prince george's county investigating a shooting in fort wa this happened after 11:30 last night in the 6100 block of brandy hall court. they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds. rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, no word on a possible suspect or motive. >> what began as a routine traffic stop turned into a much bigger deal and resulted in these three people facing serious charges, this happened on richmond highway. police determined the driver had outstanding warrant.

drugs and charged them with a number of crimes. a virginia woman is under arrest accused of poisoning a coffee maker at her job. 32-year-old mayda is being held without bond tonight. the former coworkers claimed she poured a cleaning agent into the coffee maker into a number of week. several employees got sick. she is charged with felony assault. a lawyer and family of a man shot and wounded police officer are demanding answers tonight. they want the police department to release all information and body camera footage related to the shooting of mark george. he was critically shot and wounded last friday on whaler place southeast. members of the gun recovery unit were in the area when they spotted george and he ran away. as the officers gave chase, they say george pointed a gun at them. the family's lawyer is disputing

to different schools. the nurses' contract is set to expire in january. at which time. the dc department of health is expected to implement a new health program. but few are clear as to what that program will mean for schools and nurses, dc ps won't comment nor will the state superintendent of jakes, the director of public health says the program will be broader look at community health and will not take nurses away. here's what she said. >> what we want everybody to know is that it is absolutely not accurate that there's going to be an automatic reduction of nursing coverage to our schools >> but there are sceptics. separate from that, the dc nurses association is now planning to ask that nurses hours are increased to 40 hours a week citing mishaps. fox 5 reported back in september

saturday. i won't be surprised if this gets extended and starts to cross the i95 corridor. when the wind starts to pick up, it will be fairly strong. frontal system moving through fairly strong. we're seeing right nows on the back side we're going to see the wind increase. showers will be off and on. i can't rule out a lingering wet weather wore the early hours of tomorrow. coastal flood advisory for st. mary's until 9:00. 8: showers popping up. a little bit of a break, get into saturday. and early morning we see a little bit as well look at the higher elevations where those wind are. they're seeing snow flurries and showers there. we don't want hear about that just yet. but the cooler air definitely kicking in. your overnight lows into the mid to upper 40's. so, expect to see saturday cloudy. temperatures that is going to be into the 60's, warmest once we get into your sunday.

number of officers resigning, and also retiring. earlier this week, on monday, interim dc police chief pete newsham went down to the city council and testified that there are now 3,729 of the force. through a freedom of information act request we learned that approximately 270 of those officers are unavailable for patrol because they haven't been assigned handguns. the middle of a retirement bubble. officials knew it was coming. warnings were issued by the union. now that it's here, the dc city council, mayor and interim chief are scrambling to find ways to not only recruit but retain and bring back officers who have already retired. interim chief newsham was asked by ward council member how many officers were available for patrol
