5:02 pm
>> i think we should all be very concerned at this point in ti. certainly we know already that about four out of five individuals who get zika infections don't have any symptoms, so there can be that low level kind much under the surface spread of this certainly. it doesn't mean it has to go further, go to more people or become that cluster that we are seeing now in miami-dade and south beach and in winwood. you don't want to be that person that gets it.
5:03 pm
be cautious and careful and to wear your deet, wear the long sleeves and try to clean up backyards and make our personal space as mosquito-free as possible. some people don't have symptoms, but some do. let's remind everyone of the symptoms that they should be looking for. >> one of the things is that they have this rash they talk about. it's a red rash, bumps. i've talked to some people say it was between their fingers. there can be faefr. there can be this. muscle pain, joint pain, fatigue. all of those things can occur. kind of like a bad flu. the other thing is the eyes. the eyes look kind of blood shot. it's not like the pinkeye you expect with all the gunk you wake up or,e like red eyes. there can be a little bit of swelling i've seen in pictures beneath that white part of the eye. so all of those things might indicate that you have an infection. again, i think it's up to us, if
5:04 pm
infected, to talk to our doctor and get that test done, if they think it's appropriate. at this point in time, the more people that we identify the more we can go out to their communities and take precautions, and we can, you know, spray if necessary and certainly test those individuals around them. >> because we're all exposed to mosquitos here. >> we all are. that's our reality. >> thanks. so we're also keeping a close eye on the tropics. >> it's that time of year again, and paul says still way out there we should be paying attention to, right? >> paul: absolutely. we're talking perhaps first hurricane to make landfall in our ste back in 2005. that system does not have a name. we call it invest 99-l. you see what's the deal with this invess short for investigation, an area that we're watching and investigating for possible tropical development. in fact, hurricane center says
5:05 pm
60% chance in the next five days. this is also gaston, which is way out in the atlantic. not a threat to us. fiona is no longer on the map. i'll show you sky tower in a bit showing storms in the bay area. we fly out. this is the position of the invest which is approaching the lesser antilles. hurricane hunter plane did a look and see today and did not find a close circulation. because there's so much dry air expecting any major intensification during the next couple of days. however, ifhe system can get up into the bahamas and up into the turks and kay coast, the water is warm and let shear and mortgage in the atmosphere, so the european model really gets aggressive with development as it approaches our state from the east. that could beouth florida during the day on sunday, and then i'll show you
5:06 pm
but the european model goes bonkers with intensification. you get a storm into the gulf of mexico as a major hurricane, and then moves it away from us up towards alabama, mississippi, louisiana. as you can tell by the e general trend of a developing tropical system movingorwest generally towards our state is still far away. it still has yet tevelopnto a named storm. the will change a little bit. we'll talk some impacts to us this weekend. that's coming up at 5:20. see you then. >> paul, you have you're attention. today president obama visited parts of louisiana devastated by flooding. he met with victims and he called on americans to stay focused on the tremendous need for help. for those people who many have lost everything. fox 13's chris kato was following the president's visit and joins us. the presidents takingom heat for wti make this trip.

5:20 pm
here's a look at the satellite radar trend today with more moisture kind of sliding our way from the north and northeast. showers and thunderstorms kind of meeting up along the sea breeze boundary late today. the biggest concentration of rain has been primarily tampa bay north. we'll zoom in and show you some areas getting wet right now. it's around tampa bay. there's a big storm which is slicely over mcdill. there's some near ruskin and one around oldsmo. everything is sliding from the west-to-southwest. i would expect heavy rain and lightning with the cells. additionally some showers in pasco county. they're sliding to the polk est, and some pop-up county. they're also sliding to the southwest. not much across our northern counties right now.
5:21 pm
5:45. the heat is on. another day today easily in the mid-90s. tampa is 93. storms develop with a surge of moisture from the northeast. let's fly down now to invest 99-l. looks, you know, somewhat impressive on satellite, but it's kind of elongated. i'm not expecting any rapid intensification at all. hurricane hunter plane today took off from st. croix and flew into the system and did not find the air mass around invest 99-l is pretty dry, so for the time being don't expect much. when the storm gets up somewhere into the central bahamas, there will be literally no wind shear. some of the warmest water on the planet is over the bahamas, and the european model has been going crazy with intensification. high pressure over the carolinas. that really is the key to the forecast. the highs stay strong and most models say it will.
5:22 pm
this way, because it runs into the high. so what it will probably do i mo to e west and northwest. if it intensifies, we could be looking at a landfalling hurricane some place along the east coast, most likely south florida depending on the models now. but anyplace up and down the east coast is still in place. the european model moves across florida and then becoming a major hurricane west of tampa bay. so that's the european, which we have high confidence in. it's also interesting to note that to buy into any of this and just watch how this plays out with really zilch to show you except make here, a weak area of low pressure southwest of us. once again, as it always is, it's the battle of the models. we'll see how this o in the nextay or two, a wll update it on subsequent model runs. for nowt ast think ithe back of your head there could be some florida impacts sunday into
