they had to arizona and the national championship game. brad: the dominating performance by the tigers, beating the sumer's -- beating the sooners 520 points. this is the game clemson wanted to play. the second half was a completely different story. >> oklahoma could not stop the runs tonight. watson rushing, the second time in the history of the orange bowl that two players from the same team went over 100 yards. it was a dominating performance. close to 200 60 question yards. watson through a couple of bullets for good measure. brad: it was really incredible to see because really running up to this game, everybody thought watson would have to beat oklahoma with his arm because they will take away running the football. clemson probably took that to heart, obviously, and rest for 300 plus yards.

oklahoma, it was less than 100 yards rushing. us link from last year's game, but the tigers will play for the national championship. marc: i think in the locker room is the moment when these guys realize, we are at the top of the mountain. i talked to a lot of clemson fans this week, and so many older ones said back in 1981, they win that national championship and they thought they would have another chance the next couple of years and they have not had that chance. that is why this season has been so special. 75% of the stadium was orange, and to see them going nuts is something i will never forget. brad: dabo swinney said that this team is uncommon. they do, and in an uncommon way. he said that seven years ago, they would be here. he did not know when, but the clemson tigers have a chance to play for it all and make history.

over $10 on november 4th. blackburn was killed after a burglary last month. officials say her death was part of a crime spree that started on november 3rd. patrick: an update on the story we brought you a few weeks ago, the greenville shares office paid a visit to fellow deputy dave dempsey. you may recall dempsey was shot in the head earlier this month while on the job. the sheriff's office says he's in rehabilitation and has a long road ahead. but they say his progress is "truly a miracle." allyson: damage caused by potholes in spartanburg county is costing drivers hundreds of dollars. in fact, one particular pothole opened up again after it was filled. this is on anderson mill road in front of the londonderry subdivision. several people got flat tires and damaged rims after hitting the pothole. road crews say they had to fill the hole four times this week because the material is being washed away by the rain. >> i think that they could have

pothole is there. allyson: that woman says she's paying more than $700 in repairs. the department of transportation says you can file a claim on their website to be reimbursed for damages caused by potholes. we're told they typically reimburse drivers if the agency already knew about the pothole. patrick: dale, that last segment shows the mess we have been dealing with in terms of rain, but what is the new year like? dale: last year, we were over one foot ahead on rainfall. huge amounts after suffering a drought the first part of the year. it looks like we have dry weather as we start to a new year and it will hang around through thursday next week. as you look out from our various skycam's, no problems. roads are dry. the precipitation showing for the upstate are mountains. at the coast, that is the rain

part of that system that will impact myrtle beach today, but mostly sunny down at the coast tomorrow. temperatures ranging from mid and upper 50's in the piedmont to low 50's in the upstate. though 40's in parts of the mountains which feel colder, especially in asheville and hendersonville. we will see temperatures rebound this afternoon and reach 56 for the upstate and upper 40's for the mountains, even with mostly cloudy skies. it clears tonight and colder temperatures led into the region for the next several mornings. low 30's in the upstate, so over the weekend and starting next week as kids go back to school, they will need a warm jacket waiting for buses early in the morning. allyson: thank you. this is woodruff road. you just heard about the weather, but the traffic. an accident with injuries on

rsa the building to kick off the new year. the firework show hosted the activities. it was in 10:00 of the riverview plaza. patrick: good to eat as well. allyson: atlanta had a bank, the annual peach drop. tens of thousands of people headed to underground atlanta to catch the show. patrick: and to welcome 2016 in raleigh, a giant acorn drop to bring in the new year. they had a children celebration earlier in the day and as you see, fireworks. allyson: here is the one we have been talking about. the celebration and key west, florida, a drag queen on a shoe descended there at midnight. happy new year at florida. patrick: that was unexpected.

mile per hour wind in the mountains, a low 50's in the upstate, mid 50's in the piedmont. it will drop a few degrees and rebound to mid 50's for afternoon highs. wind will drop it to feeling like 29 to 34. dress warmly in the mountains. saturday and sunday will get back to where we typically expected to be. cold nights in the low 30's, 50's and we will get up to 56 today. the record is 75 set back in 1952. asheville regional airport averages 47 and we project 48 today. the record is 76 set back in 1952. these unusually warm pattern sets happened in the past and will again in the future, but it looks like the sky is clear tomorrow and for the weekend we get back to normal. most of the country feeling cold.

and memphis with 20's and 30's in the mountains and the upstate for overnight lows this weekend. if you are headed down to the beach for saturday and sunday, 53 saturday and mid 50's on sunday. 56 for the upstate high after 2:00 in the mountains will see upper 40's for today under mostly cloudy skies. looking ahead with the four day plus forecast. saturday and sunday, cold mornings and cool days but normal. that pardon continues through thursday. cold morning on monday, summit should the kids have a warm coat as everybody gets back into the swing of things. allyson: thank you. in dubai, a high-rise building caught fire on new year's eve. but the city let the fireworks fly nonetheless. the fire engulfed the 63-story downtown highrise. it's a hotel and apartment building called the address. officials say 14 people suffered minor injuries. about 15 minutes before midnight, large explosions were heard from inside the building.

is still unclear. patrick: paris canceled its usual new year's fireworks display. but crowds turned out for subdued festivities amid heightened security. across the channel, big ben tolled the midnight hour. london had tight security, but held a big fireworks celebration along the thames river. rio de janeiro held a new year's fiesta with 24 tons of fireworks to kick off brazil's olympic year. allyson: and in germany, a terror threat shut down train stations in munich. police there say they had indications of an imminent attack. two busy train stations were evacuated on new year's eve. people were also being asked not to gather in crowds. no attacks took place. paris and brussels cancelled their new year's eve celebrations, following last month's attacks in paris that killed 130 people. patrick: belgian authorities announced the arrest of a 10th person in connection with those attacks in paris.

detained for questioning over a suspected plot to stage new attacks in brussels during the holidays. law enforcement officials said there is no known connection between the two investigations. president barack obama is expected to announce a new executive order on gun control. white house sources say it's designed to close the so-called gun-show loophole. the loophole allows certain gun sellers to skip the background checks for buyers. gun-control advocates expect the president will reveal the plan in the state of the union address. that's set for january 12th. allyson: wildfires continue to burn in southern australia. at least 15 homes in the area are under threat. about 120 fire fighters have been deployed. officials say a wind change turned the fire away from populated areas. a number of people were allowed to return home. >> at the end of the day, as long as we don't lose lives, the
