across the world. >> across social media people are talking about clemson they are talking about alabama. and all of it seems to be positive. let's break it down. right now 67.6% of the talk , online is positive about alabama and clemson university. and take a look at the share of the voice, right now it is pretty equal with alabama getting 48.7% of chatter online and clemson is topping out a little more at 51.3%. >> i think we are really early on. i am not to surprised its split down the middle. when we looked at other very competitive games that clemson has played in football over the years we saw a similar pattern. it is in the days that are very close to the actual kickoff time that we start to see a lean in a

we will be excited to watch that in the days to come. >> so you are saying the trash talking hasn't started yet. it hasn't started just yet but i am sure it will. gabrielle: so again its pretty even. nigel: clearly that will likely change the closer we get to the game. clemson will face alabama in the college football championship game on january 11. turning to weather now. now we're taking a live look outside at greenville through the paris mountain sky cam. gabrielle: wyff news 4's meteorologist chris justus is here. and chris how is our new years night looking? chris: this is the temperature change for the past 24 hours and we are 10 degrees cooler. this is a trend as we move into the weekend and colder air is on the way. currently, we are at 54, but it is getting colder. for greenville, it looks like clear skies and we will see temperatures fall pretty quickly. by 9:00 or 10:00, you'll notice it will be a lot cooler than what it is right now.

asheville will be colder, heading to freezing by 1:00 a.m. and and even colder -- and even colder temperatures next week. nigel: it was a busy new year's eve day for some florida firefighters and paramedics. the arrived on a pregnancy call to find the mother in labor, saying the baby was coming. paul mueller has more on this story. reporter: the frantic 911 call. then 3 minutes after arriving on scene. >> it just happened so fast. reporter: firefighters making that very special delivery. >> so i saw the head and yelled to my partner, the baby's coming. reporter: when's the last time you yelled, the baby's coming? >> that was the first time. reporter: his first delivery, the baby girl. >> she was very quiet. swaddled. and paramedic arrive. >> a few minutes later, baby number two. reporter: a fussy little boy.

that's to be expected. reporter: his cry allowing everyone to take a breath, immediately it was a sigh of relief because you knew everybody was ok. reporter: but the concern? they were premies, not due until mid march. >> that kind of ups your, heightens your senses a little bit. >> adds that sense of urgency. reporter: and when they finally arrived at the hospital -- >> that's when you can stop and take a breathe and say hey, that was cool. reporter: a reminder to these guys -- >> makes you realize why you got into this job. reporter: most of them veterans. >> i've been doing this for the county for 23 years and this is my first childbirth. reporter: why they love what they do. >> it's just that feeling that you're doing, you're seeing the miracle of birth happening. reporter: just another day at the office. >> kinda sort of but not. reporter: and now? >> move on to the next job. it's what we do. reporter: but for this job. >> and everything worked out perfect.

gabrielle: hundreds of houses in the philippines capital were destroyed by a huge fire, just a few hours after people celebrated the start of the new year. no word on what caused it, but some local reports claim a loose firecracker is suspected of sparking the fire. nigel: a fire tore through a historic church in northern new jersey early this morning. officials say the fire caused significant damage. officials say the building's roof collapsed. no injuries are reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. the structure was originally built in and housed an episcopal 1827 congregation for many years. the church was sold to another group last year. gabrielle: nearly 200 muslim employees at a meat packing plant in colorado say they were fired after they walked off the job over a prayer dispute. according to one of the employees, depending on the season, the muslim workers prayed at different times of the day. but a decision was recently made at the plant to change the practice.

employees work on an assembly line, only one or two at a time could use a prayererrea. the workers walked off the job in protest. company officials said they were fired for violating company rules, and missing three days of work with no explanation. >> the supervisors were convened to a meeting and they were told that the policy has changed that there would be no prayer accommodation anymore. gabrielle: federal law states that all employers must provide reasonable accommodation for employee religious practice as long as it doesn't create an undue hardship on the business. nigel: wayne rogers who portrayed army surgeon trapper john mcintyre in tv's mash died yesterday. he was 82-years-old. according to his publicist, rogers died of complications

rogers' trapper john was paired with alan alda's benjamin hawkeye pierce. his character stuck around for the first three seasons. gabrielle: iconic r&b star natalie cole has died at the age of 65. the grammy winner and dauguger of the legendary nat king cole reportedly died in a los angeles hospital late last night. cole underwent a successful kidney transplplt in 2009. troubles with her kidney date back to 2008. she was diagnosed with hepatitis c and underwent aggressive chemotherapy to fight the virus. cole attributed the illness to her struggles with cocaine and heroin. nigel: pope francis welcomed in the new year today. he said it's time to end injustice during mass in saint peter's basilica. pope francis says false neutrality regarding thehears and misery of the world must end. he asked the congregation how it is possible that quote, "the arrogance of theheowerful continues to demean the weak," end quote. the also pope wondered aloud how

violence and hatred. gabrielle: a big party rang-in the new year in new york city. and as soon as it ended sanitation crews got right to , work cleaning-up times square. party hats, confetti, and noisemakers were all part of the tons of debris swept away. new york's department of sanitation says more than 170 workers hit the streets. they got the cleanup done with several dozen sweepers and collection trucks. after last year's times square party, more than 48-tons of debris were hauled-away. >> now your super doppler weather forecast. chris: we started off pretty chilly, but not as cold as we could have beeee we had clouds, but temperatures fell to 49 in greenville. 38 in asheville. it was a cold afternoon with clouds in place, we did not get

building to kick off the new year in mobile. a fireworks show also highlighted festivities. a giant moonpie was sliced at 10 :00 p.m. in the courtyard of the renaissance riverview plaza. gabrielle: atlanta welcomes 2016 with a bang. the annual giant peach drop is the largest new years eve celebration in the southeast. tens of thousands of people headed to underground atlanta to catch the show. nigel: and to welcome 2016 in raleigh, check this out. a giant acorn drops to ring in the new year. the city had a children's celebration earlier in the day. and fireworks at midnight. check out the celebration in key west, florida. a drag queen on a shoe descended there at midnight. happy new year, florida. nigel: only in key west. now this. the force was strong at the rose parade. what event would be complete.

storm troopers joined the disney float parade now in its 127th year. it's one of dozens of floats and bands making their way through pasadena, california. this year's grand marshal is documentary filmmaker ken burns. in other news an earthquake , rattled parts of oklahoma yesterday morning. the event even made for a surprising moment on live television, take a look. >> we're having another earthquake right now. the studio lights are shaking as we speak. we just had a big earthquake. >> yeah, that's a big one. nigel: you're looking at the scene from the studio of kfor in oklahoma city. that was its morning show interrupted by the tremor. a preliminary report from the u.s. geological survey says the earthquake was a 4.2 magnitude. there are no reports of any injuries or damage. gabrielle: ohio's columbus zoo gave a holiday update on a polar bear cub who's just 8 weeks old. so cute. she was born on november 6. zoo staff says her mother stopped caring for her the following week.

first babies of 2016. nigel: there were two babies born just after the stroke of midnight, both baby boys and both in the upstate, but the similarities do not stop there. gabrielle: wyff news 4's patrick hussion reports. reporter: every year the big question is 'who will be the first baby born in our area i'm here at spartanburg regional and i want you to meet coleman andrew zell. no matter what day of the year it is morgan and evan zell are proud, first-time parents. >> amazing, unforgettable and

reporter: but it is new year's day and just after midnight, at 2016 12:23, coleman arrived. that makes him the first in the upstate but he was actually not alone. miles away, at greenville 37 memorial little wyatt raymond , wofford was also born to these proud parents at 12:23, at the exact same time. but more on this little guy in just a moment. last night, back in spartanburg, the zells were headed to watch the clemson game, and got a little hungry. they'd heard an urban myth floating around town that eating onion rings at the beacon can induce labor. >> so i told evan let's just go to the beacon, let's just try it , so we go and have a hamburger and onion rings and as we're walking to the car at the beacon my water breaks. we thank the beacon for that. reporter: but it wasn't time yet and they headed on to a friend's house to watch the game. >> we were not having contractions then but they

>> police estimate that 4000 fans came to welcome home the team. you can see excitement in the air as everyone was packing together to see coaches, players and staff. the team was met with cheers and applause. so many people here who wanted to show the team how proud they are of all the successes this year, hoping to get some high fives and maybe some autographs. i spoke to some fans from anderson and spartanburg, some from further away, like a fan from augusta, georgia. >> we came from a gusto. we wanand to welcome them home and congratulate them. >> you have to be excited about the national championship. >> 11 days. us 10 days now -- it is 10 days way.
