hours away. tonight, the republican candidates for president square off again. this time, in north charleston. only seven republican hopefuls are slated to appear in prime titi. expect all eyes on the top two candidates, ted cruz and donald trump, tangled in a neck and neck race in iowa. voting there begins in just over two weeks. rand paul is threatening to boycott this debate. he's clamoring to get back in the mix after being booted to the undercard, along with carly fiorina. >> to go and be sent back to the little kid's table, which is what is happening to fiorina and now to rand paul, it's devastating because it is the network saying you're not ready for primetime. geoff: the undercard debate is expected to start at 6:00 tonight. the main stage begins at 9:00. to the democrats side of things now, hillary clinton's edge over bernie sanders has shrunk to just 2 percentage points in iowa. that's according to a new bloomberg/des moines register poll released today. clinton tops sanders 42% to 40%.

o'malley was at 4%. the poll included 503 likely democratic caucus-goers. here in the upstate spartanburg , county deputies say a man confessed to sexually abusing a child. william thad johnson faces several charges. last month, authorities say they searched johnson's home for child pornography. they say during the search evidence was found in reference to possible sexual abuse. johnson was arrested on monday. authorities tell us the investigation continues with other victims. thth just in, anderson police say they took a woman into custody accused of trying to kill their estranged husband. she turned her something to authorities on tuesday. it happened back in november when police say it was at the pour house bar and grill where

officers tell us that she drove the man from the crime scene and they are still looking for him, and he is considered armed and dangerous. anyone with information on his asked the crime crime stoppers -- to call crime stoppers at 888-crime-sc. an upstate man pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday, to conspiracy to traffic children for prostitution. officials say 19-year-old dylan pattersoo the sex ring. the others pleaded guilty back in december. investigators say the men recruited children and young women. the death of a greer teenager is under investigation. nathan moore was a senior and died earlier this week. he was on the varsity basketball team.school officials will likely hold attribute on the court before the game tonight. his younger brother is expected blue ridge high. the coroner says a man died yesterday afternoon after a crash with a tractor trailer.officials say douglas yearta pulled into the path of a tractor trailer on highway 8 in greenville county.

but later died. disturbing details on the lafayette theater shooter. investigators found his journal at the motel where he was staying. in it, houser praised charleston shooter dylann roof. he wrote, thank you for the wake up call, dylann. roof shot and killed nine people at emanuelle ame in charleston. he specifically targeted african americans. louisiana police say they're investigation revealed houser's hatred of the u.s. government the media and minorities. , two women were killed and nine other people were wounded last july when houser launched his attack at a movie theater. in arizona, four people are dead because of an interstate crash after their car drove off an overpass last night. police say all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. officials say the car drove through a barricade and fell onto a landscaped area. crews say a portion of the interstate was shut down as they investigated the crash.

he was told that the charleston harbor deepening project is headed to congress. the army corps of engineers last year recommended that the harbor channel be deepened to 52 feet to accommodate a new generation of larger containership. the federal government's share of the project is just over $200 million. lawmakers will vote whether to approve funding. state lawmakers have already put aside more than $300 million for the project. charlotte mayor jennifer roberts signed a resolution declaring january as panthers pride month. of course, it's in honor of the carolina panthers football team. roberts urged members of the community to wear carolina panthers gear every friday of this month to show support for the team. the mayor says the panthers have shown strong character this season and brought positive national attention to the city. the panthers are 15 and 1. they take on the seattle seahawks this sunday in the playoffs. clemson head coach dabo swinney is the paul bear bryant coach of the year. swinney became the first acc coach to be honored with the

alabama coach. clemson was undefeated until losing to alabama 45 to 40 monday night in the national championship game. the tigers finished 14-1 this season. lander college honored a former play-by-play announcer. rauch wise was the bearcats radio announcer for more than 30 years. he was the voice of the men's and women's basketball teams. the school honored him during last night's game. the 71-year-old retired from the microphone following last year's season. and in nascar, governor pat mccrory surprised nascar champion and north carolina resident jeff gordon with the prestigious order of the long leaf pine. it's the highest award the governor can bestow. gordon is passionate about pediatric cancer research, treatment and patient support programs through the jeff gordon children's foundation and the jeff gordon children's hospital in concorde, north carolina. british actor alan rickman has died. rickman's family said thursday

morning as people had -- people were heading to work. this is close to the palace, the united nations, and the u.s. embassy. and suicide belts. incredibly, the company says only one customer was injured and all of the employees are safe. at least seven are dead this morning, including some of the gunman. saying the targets were foreigne and the security services could protect them. some of the attackers had returned from syria. they say all five are now dead, along with two civilians. critically. the u.s. embassy says americans are not among the victims, but they are warning u.s. citizens in jakarta to stay away from busy places like malls and restaurants, say more attacks are possible.

geoff: people in australia what is evacuated today because of the police operation at the sydney opera house. a spokeswoman says an operation was going on and they cannot provide details. australia is on heightened alert for attacks on -- on attacks by homegrown militants. turkish media reported that at least five people were killed and 39 other injures after kurdish rebels detonated a car bomb at a police station. the force of the blast caused house close to the police station to collapse. the attack killed two people and three people died inside collapsed house. liberia is set to be declared ebola f fe. for the third time in the year, more than 11,000 people died since it began in early 2014. even though sierra leone had the highest number of ebola cases, the death toll was highest inliberia at 4809, according to
