an hour to bring the fire under control. family members i spoke to a short time ago tell me that this house belongs to an woman. they say she did not make it out of the house. the coroner is here. the red cross is here. pickens fire investigators are here, and they are trying to find outt caused the fire. we are waiting to hear from the fire chief to give us more information about exactly what happened. as soon as he tells us, we will tell you. live in pickens, john lyon, wyff news 4. nigel: thanks, john. firefighters are expecting even more fires as the temperatures continue to dip. tonight, oconee county officials are sending out a warning. wyff news 4's mandy gaither has more. mandy: this home on forest drive burned early saturday morning.

but five other families who've had fires here in oconee county >> see where it melted, and fell off the wall? mandy: sheila lemon can still see the remains of her smoke detector. before it could even go off, her 16-year-old granddaughter woke up, smelled smoke, and got everyone out of the house safely. thankfully, no one was hurt in this fire. its cause, still under investigation. but most of the other five fires in oconee county the past week were started because someone was trying to heat a home. oconee county fire chief charlie king says, those fires have one thing in common. >> the disturbing thing about each one of those was, we found none of them had a working smoke detector. the small, inexpensive devices are proven life-savers, and we want to make sure every resident in oconee has one of those, where they go to bed, and where they work at. mandy: firefighters bought extra smoke detectors today, as several people have called asking for one after the recent fires.

county fire officials are doing next weekend to make sure people understand the importance of smoke detectors. mandy gaither, wyff oconee county. gabrielle: two former upstate police officers face charges, nine months after they were fired in connection with an excessive force complaint. the state law enforcement division charged former honea path police officers robert shaw and josh bell with misconduct in office. the sentence for a conviction on that charge is up to ten years in prison. sled's warrants say the men lied about the manner i iwhich they arrested brian hatcher in november of 2014, for failure to stop for a blue light. hatcher's family told wyff 4 that his nose was broken, and his jaw was shattered during the arrest. nigel: police say a man was found dead this morning in a cherokee county park. 82-year-old howard lee talley was found by police this morning at mccluney park. that's on granite drive. the coroner says talley appeared to have been there since late last night. officials believe he suffered a medical condition. they do not think the cold

death, and they do not suspect foul play. gabrielle: seven people were killed on south carolina roadways in just two days, and officials with the department of public safety say, most of them have one thing in common. according to a new report on the deaths, six out of the seven people killed were not wearing seat else. the report also says, so far this year, 22 people in cars have died on south carolina roadways. 14 of those people were not wearing seat belts. nigel: still no luck in hunt for 12 marines, following a chopper collision last week off the coast of hawaii. 22-year-old sergeant jeffrey sempler from woodruff is one of the missing marines. authorities say someone saw the aircraft flying, and then saw a fireball last thursday night. right now, the coast guard says three life rafts that were aboard the helicopters have been recovered. they say some of them were inflated. so far, there's no indication that anyone was aboard them. in georgia, lawmakers are proposing a new bill allowing
