from here over to maybe a few rain showers and snow possible this evening and after midnight. it is something we will have to watch as we go through tonight. it would just he a few rain or snow showers, then it will melt on the roads. as far as el nio winter, that is what we are dealing with. we made this map in september. it is holding true. milder in december, getting colder. a few snow and ice storms, we had flash flooding yesterday. the potential for severe thunderstorms when we have an active subtropical jet across the area. chris is in the weather center right now. he will talk about severe weather and el nio. chris: check out this video from savannah, georgia. this is near fort stewart as a tornado touched down in the area. it did some damage out there. we had a confirmed tornado in

this is a perfect example, during and el nio year, we are that much more at risk for severe weather. let me show you the numbers as far as el nio winters. over the past 30 years, we have had 17 el nio years, and during el nio years in south carolina, the northern part of the state, 154 tornadoes in el nio years, half of that for la nina season. cold fronts come through, the cold air clashing at the same time. an active jet coming out of the south debts the air to circulate, and that is why during the winter, we can get tornadoes in severe weather and in the spring, especially. looking ahead, we have a higher risk for severe weather. that is something we will keep an eye on heading into the spring. it could be an issue.

terror apart hurricanes which will limit the hurricanes if it heads strong -- stays strong headed into the summertime. gabrielle: right now, duke energy is reporting thousands of outages in the asheville area. according to the duke energy website, nearly 6,000 customers are without power. duke energy crews are working to identify the cause of the outage. officials say crews are switching circuits to bring power back on, and it should be restored very soon. the duke energy website is reporting power should be restored by 5:45 tonight nigel: now to california, where superbowl sunday is almost here. gabrielle: wyff news 4's brad fralick and marc dopher. they are in california, covering the panthers all week as they get ready to face off against the broncos. they are live in santa clara. how is it going? brad: it is going great. we are outside levi stadium in santa clara, the site of super bowl 50. today was the final media availability for the panthers

nigel: investigators are still trying to determine what started a house fire that killed a family's dog. the fire started around 9:00 last night along ridge trail. that's in the cleveland area. that is northern greenville county. firefighters said the fire was fully involved when they arrived. it took about 15 minutes to put it out. two people inside the home were able to get out safely. gabrielle: the henderson county sheriff's office is investigating the death of a man, and they are looking for his son for a welfare safety follow-up. 66-year-old terry butler was found dead in his home on oh would road. deputies are trying to find his son, 40-year-old joey butler. this is a picture of him. he was last seen this morning around 6:45. he was wearing tennis shoes, dark cargo pants, a dark hoodie and a green shirt. call the henderson county sheriff's office if you know anything. a 17-year-old is being charged, after authorities found weapons in his car on mcdowell high school property. according to the mcdowell county sheriff's office,
