from here over to maybe a few rain showers and snow possible this evening and after midnight. it is something we will have to watch as we go through tonight. it would just he a few rain or snow showers, then it will melt on the roads. as far as el nio winter, that is what we are dealing with. we made this map in september. it is holding true. milder in december, getting colder. a few snow and ice storms, we had flash flooding yesterday. the potential for severe thunderstorms when we have an active subtropical jet across the area. chris is in the weather center right now. he will talk about severe weather and el nio. chris: check out this video from savannah, georgia. this is near fort stewart as a tornado touched down in the area. it did some damage out there. we had a confirmed tornado in

this is a perfect example, during and el nio year, we are that much more at risk for severe weather. let me show you the numbers as far as el nio winters. over the past 30 years, we have had 17 el nio years, and during el nio years in south carolina, the northern part of the state, 154 tornadoes in el nio years, half of that for la nina season. cold fronts come through, the cold air clashing at the same time. an active jet coming out of the south debts the air to circulate, and that is why during the winter, we can get tornadoes in severe weather and in the spring, especially. looking ahead, we have a higher risk for severe weather. that is something we will keep an eye on heading into the spring. it could be an issue.

terror apart hurricanes which will limit the hurricanes if it heads strong -- stays strong headed into the summertime. gabrielle: right now, duke energy is reporting thousands of outages in the asheville area. according to the duke energy website, nearly 6,000 customers are without power. duke energy crews are working to identify the cause of the outage. officials say crews are switching circuits to bring power back on, and it should be restored very soon. the duke energy website is reporting power should be restored by 5:45 tonight nigel: now to california, where superbowl sunday is almost here. gabrielle: wyff news 4's brad fralick and marc dopher. they are in california, covering the panthers all week as they get ready to face off against the broncos. they are live in santa clara. how is it going? brad: it is going great. we are outside levi stadium in santa clara, the site of super bowl 50. today was the final media availability for the panthers

we found this out today, this may be the most expensive sporting event in u.s. history. the average ticket to super bowl 50 is going for on -- just under $5,000 per ticket. marc: and that's the average ticket. super bowl one, the most expensive ticket was $12. the most expensive ticket at super bowl 50, in the $250,000 range. the cheapest price we saw on a ticket website today was $2900 for a nosebleed ticket. in the lower bowl, $10,000-$12,000 per ticket. brad: it is expensive for everyone, including the players. they were allotted up to 15 tickets, but they had to buy the tickets. one player said they were $8,000 per ticket and they could buy up to 15, but they still had to pay for them. a very expensive ticket to the

expensive ticket in u.s. history. more coming up in a little while. lab -- live in santa clara, brad fralick and marc dopher. nigel: the irs is dealing with technical difficulties. it temporarily stopped accepting electronically-filed tax returns because of problems with some of its computer systems. some systems were expected to remain out of service through today. the irs says it doesn't anticipate major disruptions. but the problem could affect when you receive your refund. gabrielle: if you bought something from amazon.com, you owe the state of south carolina money. amazon recently sent out an email, telling you the amount of tax you owe based on the total sales price of things you bought from amazon in 2015. it's about 6%. you're getting this email because amazon was not required to collect sales tax on anything shipped to south carolina last year. amazon is also not required to report it, but south carolina law requires

nigel: investigators are still trying to determine what started a house fire that killed a family's dog. the fire started around 9:00 last night along ridge trail. that's in the cleveland area. that is northern greenville county. firefighters said the fire was fully involved when they arrived. it took about 15 minutes to put it out. two people inside the home were able to get out safely. gabrielle: the henderson county sheriff's office is investigating the death of a man, and they are looking for his son for a welfare safety follow-up. 66-year-old terry butler was found dead in his home on oh would road. deputies are trying to find his son, 40-year-old joey butler. this is a picture of him. he was last seen this morning around 6:45. he was wearing tennis shoes, dark cargo pants, a dark hoodie and a green shirt. call the henderson county sheriff's office if you know anything. a 17-year-old is being charged, after authorities found weapons in his car on mcdowell high school property. according to the mcdowell county sheriff's office,

with drugs, a handgun, ammunition, and metal knuckles inside. authorities say a security guard at mcdowell high school spotted the weapons inside the car. brooks faces multiple charges, including felony possession of a weapon on educational property. nigel: in madison county, the sheriff's office is searching for a man who they say robbed a bank in marshall. the robbery was reported around 11:00 this morning. this is a picture of the suspect. deputies say the man here is around 5'7", and was wearing a gray hoodie with an asheville beer logo. if you recognize this man, or have any information, call the sheriff's office at 828-649-2721 in commitment 2016, let's take a look at the latest poll numbers in the new hampshire primary. the umass poll shows donald trump at 36%. marco rubio has moved up to second place at 15%, and ted cruz is at 14%. you can see where the rest of the candidates fall.

fiornia is at 3%. gabrielle: on the democratic side, hillary clinton had a big gain since iowa, but she is still trailing bernie sanders in new hampshire among democrats by 22 points. nigel: now, a big night ahead for the democratic presidential contenders, ththr final debate before new hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary. but first, it was a very busy day of campaigning for the republican candidates. gabrielle: sally kidd has more from our exclusive washington newsroom. sally: nigel and gabrielle, donald trump is ramping up his campaign schedule. he has added extra events smaller crowds and more one-on-one time with voters. meeting voters, shaking hands, and taking questions. >> gotta do it. it's called crunch time, right? sally: retail politicking is something new for donald trump, who came in 2nd in iowa, but has a wide lead in new hampshire. >> i have your vote, right? do i have people's votes in here?

sally: the des moines register is calling for a review of the clinton and sanders caucus results, saying they were too close not to do a complete audit. the iowa democratic party has said there will not be a recount. in washington, sally kidd, wyff news 4. gabrielle: cnn is reporting that former south carolina democratic party chairman richard harpootlian is endorsing bernie sanders. he says he made the decision after talking with sanders on the phone last week. he said sanders' passion reminded him of president obama's passion back in 2007, nigel: the race is on to get support from those candidates who have dropped out. this week alone, on the republican side, mike huckabee, rand paul, and rick santorum have all suspended their campaign for president. on the democratic side, martin o'malley, as well. o'malley only polled around 1%. however, on the gop side, together, the three candidates who have ended their campaign make up about 4% of the voting block total. of those who have dropped out, only rick santorum has endorsed a candidate.

9-11 system. wyff new four's corey davis shows us how gabrielle: emergency crews in simpsonville are looking at upgrades to the 911 system. corey: about $50,000 has been pumped into the simpsonville communication center, for upgrades. it includes better computer setups, along with technology. take a look at this. each desk is able to go up and down, to make it as comfortable as possible for dispatchers who are working 12-hour-long shifts. brand-new equipment, packed with the latest technology, >> the communication center is what we like to call the heartbeat of the police department. corey: vital to getting first responders to you during an emergency.

phone calls a day. >> any 911 call that comes in within the city limits of simpsonville, or in the city of simpsonville fire department's district, will come here. corey: dispatchers now have what they need to do their jobs better, and faster. new work stations and chairs, computers with more screens than the average person would need. the floors, wiring, and paint were all done by police officers, and a staff member on the technology team. the $50,000 budget was paid for in part by taxes collected to run the 911 system. >> i think that's absolutely great. i think it's a great thing for our community. we've needed it. corey: the last major upgrade was 15 years ago. right now, dispatchers say they're able to keep up, but that is changing as the community of about 20,000 people continues to grow. >> this town, at certain times of the day, is really clustered, and that would be wonderful if

to people much faster. corey: the plan is to add more specially-trained dispatchers to keep up with growth. more upgrades could be on the way here. we're working on that part of the story for you, tonight at 6:00. corey davis, wyff news 4, in simpsonville. nigel: there's now an official date set for the demolition of a landmark in anderson. gabrielle: wyff news 4's mandy gaither is live and local downtown, with more. mandy? mandy: it's known as the bailes bill -- building behind me and , has been around since at least the early 1900's. it's been vacant since the anderson county voter registration and elections office was relocated. its director asked for the department to be moved out of the building, because of its poor condition. today, anderson county administrator rusty burns was given the date of february 22nd for the demolition to begin. it'll take an estimated 30 days. burns says, tearing the building down was necessary. >> the county bought them and used them with the idea that

they were temporary too long, and they slowly deteriorated. and, i mean, they had asbestos, and the possibility of suspicious other things in there, and so we looked at the possibility of redoing those buildings. but really, they're not tall enough, and they're not big enough, and they were never designed for what we might possibly want to do. mandy: this building used to be a department store, check out these old pictures, when it was known as the g.h. bailes and company department store. coming up at 6:00, what could go in this spot after the bailes building is gone. mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in anderson county. gabrielle: thanks, mandy. the zika virus has now reached georgia. health officials say the first travel-related case of the virus has infected a person. they say a person traveled to colombia between the end of december and the first of january. that person has made a full

health officials are still stressing that the virus is primarily spread through mosquito bites. nigel: oregon standoff leader ammon bundy was indicted by a federal grand jury in portland. the indictment was against bundy, and 10 others who joined him at the occupation of an oregon wildlife refuge. no further details on the charges are available, and the indictment will remain sealed for at least 24 hours. authorities arrested 11 people last week on a criminal complaint, charging them with felony conspiracy. they were accused of using intimidation to prevent federal officers from doing their work at the refuge in oregon. >> now, your live super doppler 4 hd weather forecast. john: the radar shows we are nice and quiet. look at all the rain up and down the eastern seaboard.
