there was winter excitement this morning. temperatures right now in the upstate are actually colder than they are in the mountains of north carolina. asheville at 36 with a few flurries that could occur this afternoon. this is the past six hours. you can see that little bit of snow working across the upstate, coming down heavily with areas shaded in blue with the hardest. we are going to see improving temperatures this afternoon. it will get into the upper 30's out. a wintry mix in northern greenville county, sleet, snow and it will change to rain. winter advisories for the mountains of north carolina with snow into the evening. the wind picks up tonight, tomorrow, it clears and it will be cold for saturday and sunday. the next chance for winter weather. we could see snow changing over to sleet and freezing rain in the early morning hours.

conservative leadership project. today, it's the faith and family presidential forum at bob jones university. doctor ben carson will be kicking things off today in about 15 minutes. carson did not fair well in iowa or new hampshire, but his camp says he is still all in for next week for south carolina. after that jeb bush then takes , the stage, another candidate who once polled really well here in the palmetto state but has a , lot of ground to make up to join the frontrunners. senator marco rubio is here and has been all over south carolina since wednesday. i'll be spending some time with him later as he makes his way to a big rally tonight at the greenville downtown airport. last on stage will be senator ted cruz. cruz has vowed this week to out-do rubio when it comes to reaching out to south carolina

found dead. the coroner's office says the body of autumn hunt was discovered in the arkwright community yesterday afternoon. investigators have not released a cause of death but have said foul play was involved. an autopsy has been scheduled for later today. in mauldin, police say a fourth teen has been arrested in a deadly armed robbery last month outside of a bojangles. a 16-year-old girl is now also accused of murder. police say the girl had an active role in planning the attempted armed robbery in january. investigators say 19-year-old savon allen was shot and killed in the drug-related incident. officers have already charged and a 15-year-old girl with murder. early this morning on highway 290. people and putting a third person in the hospital. their condition is unknown. the wreck shut down two of the

police say they are still investigating the incident, and identified. a massive fire at a new jersey warehouse continues to burn. the fire at the veterans industrial park in hillsborough broke out thursday afternoon shortly before 3:00, local time. hundreds of firefighters from around the region have been battling the five-alarm blaze. according to fire officials, the fire started in warehouse containing plastic pellets. no injuries have been reported. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a gas well in southern california that's been spewing methane into the air for months has finally been capped. the natural gas leak began last october. officials estimate it released more than two million tons of methane into the air above the san fernando valley. dozens of residents in the area complained of headaches, nausea, nosebleeds and other symptoms. many were moved to temporary housing outside the immediate area. a water main break in northern pennsylvania caused an icy mess. take a look at this.

brought a happy tear to my eye. most days it is the other way around. as you look out from our skycam's, here is our spartanburg skycam. that is looking back toward the city. earlier, it was blanketed in white. it came down hard quickly and things are starting to fall. 20 degrees in spartanburg, but temperatures rebound and get into the 30's and 40's before the day is out. we saw this with the future plus forecast early this morning. it came right on schedule. there will be a few isolated flurries in the mountains of north carolina this afternoon. asheville is at 36 degrees but calm. over the past six hours, this wave of snow activity has marched right across the upstate and you can see it clearing to the west in a few spots in cherokee and york county looked pretty good downpours. areas of pain cap sleep, so

areas of pink are sleet so south of york and chester. we have a winded riser tonight and tomorrow where the wind will pick up in the mountains and temperatures drop like a rock. it will be cold saturday and sunday. the mountains drop to the teens tomorrow and get up to 25 and the upstate will be in the 30's all day tomorrow. saturday and sunday, cold weather, dry and unexpected precipitation during the time, but the next wave on sunday night will march right down the jet stream and affect us sunday night and into monday and possibly into tuesday. this is another view of what we have experienced across the area this morning. less than one inch of snow, along the tennessee and north carolina border, flurries of snow and more will accumulate. 36 and asheville, hendersonville at 34, colder in spartanburg

greenville at 31 and climbing. anderson a 43. mid 40's to upper 40's across the upstate and piedmont this afternoon. breezes out of the northeast at six to seven does make it feel like it is in the 20's, so dress warmly even though the temperatures will be climbing. average this time of the year gets up to 56. not today. while i-44, 47. -- more like 44, 47. the mountains will reach 41 as the expected high after the cold and cloudy conditions move. we get a break in the clouds this afternoon with temperatures improving. that big low that we keep calling the polar vortex, a big area of cold there in the north pole reaching deep down in the south as the jet stream it's all the way down into parts of georgia. it will do just that and bring more cold air this weekend and

first, who did you bring with you? steve: well, no pets because they have to deliver the puppies and we lost track of time so we did not get sandy. if you're looking for a puppy, i figure works as a great segue into the topic for today which is spaying and neutering. allyson: tell us about that. steve: that will prevent more puppies from being born because there are tons of them out there, but there are great benefits. spaying prevents, especially before the first heat, dramatically reduce the lifetime chance of breast cancer, common in female dogs, and takes away the chances of infections in the uterus and memory infections.

chance of prostate infections, totally do away with cancer and it will greatly reduce the roman behaviors and fighting behaviors. allyson: i know owners are worried about what they're covering for something like that and you can speak to that. steve: it is like no recovery time at all. at my practice, we keep them overnight. i keep them because they're are little drunk because of the pain relief. we tell patients to keep them -- retail clients to keep them calm. and they bring them back for checks in the week and they say it is hard to keep them calm so they were cover well. allyson: just for quality of life, why is it so important? steve: again, not wanting to get out and have them rome, fight, a lot of behavioral issues could be calmed down. we do see obesity as a big side effect great i think that is the
