allyson: the gop primary for south carolina is over, trump wins but there's one less candidate in the race for the white house. geoff: we have your results from the gop primary, but first, let's take a look at the weather. we have a dense fog advisory. pamela: we do. i think we will see its think down into the upstate as well. the advisory is telling you widespread visibility is one quarter mile or less. we have rdc not across the area this morning. we will anticipate that until 10:00. the advisory is up for polk and rutherford counties and extending over to charlotte and up towards greensboro. it is quite foggy over the upstate. the moisture continues to increase. the temperatures have gone down enough that they are mashed up with the dew point temperature. we're seeing the moisture

[applause] allyson:>> bush thanked his supporters and staff who never gave up in this campaign. i talked to several of them after this announcement, no one was expecting this, i saw tears in the eyes of some, so many here surprised by bush's decision to bow out. tim dyar and his family came down from pendleton to support bush. here's what he had to say just moments after learning bush will no longer be seeking the republican nomination. >> i did not expect this at all tonight.

south carolina has given us another remarkable result. >> the cruz campaign had an aggressive ground game in south carolina. they are now taking that ground game to nevada. their hope is for a strong showing on super tuesday, especially in his home state of texas. geoff: thank you. now to dr. ben carson. his campaign started with strong pull numbers late last year, but he came up last in the south carolina primary. allyson: dr. ben carson made up his mind to stay in the race.

allyson: mike mccormick followed his campaign from greenville and talks about his motivation to continue his bid for the white house. >> not the outcome dr. ben carson wanted from the primary. still, a huge crowd, and dr. chris saying that is the enthusiasm he found at the precincts he visited. on tuesday, he told us no matter what happened, he was staying in it. he is keeping his word, telling the crowd tonight, we will take america back. dr. ben carson staying in the race. geoff: there was only one candidate not watching the results in south carolina. that was john kasich. allyson: instead, he focused on the states getting ready to vote on super tuesday. he started the day in vermont. then traveled to massachusetts

with information from precincts across the county. ballots from all of the precincts were counted here at the county headquarters. poll workers across the county had to troubleshoot throughout the day. we're told they mostly had to deal with normal hiccups, .like people who came in with old addresses. >> the numbers fell off in the afternoon, but a lot of people voted before 1:00. >> how was your voting experience? >> very quick. >> voters at the riverside high school precinct hardly had to wait in line. there was a high turnout there with more than 575 voters. folks here at the office will be back at it again for the democratic primary. if you need to change your address, they advise that you get it done before tuesday, otherwise you'll have to get it done at your polling place, and that could put you there a

myra: we are going to take a look at our morning headlines now. columbia police say that a fight led to shots being fired at a crowded mall. the columbia police chief said the incident happened at the columbiana mall last night, when two men were fighting and a , third man jumped in. police said at some point two of the men pulled out guns, and shot into the air. investigators said once the shots were fired, the people involved ran away. right now police have not case. friends and family gathered in pendleton yesterday. people killed in a quadruple homicide. the vigil to remember mike and kathy scott barbara scott and , violet taylor was held at veterans park in pendleton yesterday afternoon. you may remember, all were found shot today inside their home last november. in the case. earlier this month, anderson county deputies are consulting with criminal profilers with sled, hoping to gain some

shots were ha fired, the people involved ran. several law enforcement agencies in kalamazoo are scrambling to find answers after multiple people were shot and killed at random saturday night. the shootings happened over a five hour time period at various locations around kalamazoo county. the highest body count was in the parking lot of a cracker barrel restaurant in texas township, where police are saying five people died. six people in all were killed, and police are saying up to three more people are critically injured. shortly after midnight police said they arrested a person of interest who they have strong -- they believe could be the shooter. >> we don't know why. there is no connection between any of them. this all appears to be random. this is the worst-case scenario

myra: in mississippi, police say that a police officer and a gunman are dead after a several hour stand-off that ended with gunfire overnight. investigators say officers were called to the home of 45-year-old charles lambert for a domestic dispute late friday. after a six hour stand-off, two tactical units entered the home and exchanged gunfire with lambert. lambert was killed along with narcotics agent lee tartt. they say lambert's wife and 10-year-old daughter were inside the home during the stand-off but were safely rescued. geoff: coming up, we will preview an nbc special,
