race. here's another look at those g-o-p primary results. donald trump -- walking away with the vote there. ted cruz and marco rubio practically tied here in south carolina. john kasich and ben carson finished lowest. but again.. it was jeb bush who announced he's dropping out of the race. let's talk with wyff news 4's myra ruiz now... myra ... it's no surprise that donald trump won... that's right geoff... it was pretty much expected that donald trump would take south carolina. during his speech last night... he said he expects to gather more votes as his gop opponets drop out of the race for president... a number of the pundts say well if a couple of the other candidates drop out if u add their scores together its going to equal trump..these genises they don't understabd as people drop out i am gooing to get a lot of thoses votes also..u just don 't add them together..cheers.. wyff news four's patrick hussion was in spartanburg with trump

allyson: bush thanked his supporters and staff. i talked to several of them after that announcement. no one was expecting this. some. so many were surprised by the decision to drop out now. tim dyar and his family came down from pendleton to support bush, here's what he had to say just moments after learning bush will no longer be seeking the republican nomination. >> i did not expect this at all tonight. i was talking to some of the staffers and i said when did you find out? they said same time you did and when lindsey graham came out his demeanor and jeb's demeanor kind of tipped it a little bit. i'm really heartbroken jeb has a good heart. he's taken a special interest in me, my family, and my son. it is really sad.

especially in his home state of texas. geoff: after starting his campaign with strong poll numbers late last year, doctor ben carson ended up coming in last in the south carolina primary. allyson: before the votes were counted doctor carson had already made up his mind to stay in the race. >> there are news people here who think that i'm gonna make a concession speech. i'm not going anywhere. allyson: wyff news four's mike mccormick followed the carson campaign from greenville, and talks about his motivation to continue his bid for the white house. >> not the outcome dr. ben carson wanted from saturday's primary. still, a huge crowd, a huge showing of support at the official launch party here at the embassy suites in greenville. dr. carson saying it was that kind of enthusiasm that he found at the precinct he visited, and

on tuesday, he told us, no matter what happened in the primary, he was staying in it. he is keeping his word telling the crowd, "we will take america back." dr. ben carson staying in the race. geoff: governor john kasich was the only candidate not watching the returns in south carolina, it's allyson: instead, he focused on the states getting ready to vote on super tuesday. he started the day in vermont. then traveled to massachusetts where he spoke to supporters. he discussed the fact that he didn't spend the day in south carolina. >> we were there only about 6-7 days and i wish there had been a little bit more time, but people thought we would not do better than getting a few people to fill a volkswagen and we'll at least get them to fill a van so we feel good. allyson: kasich is hoping his strong finish in new hampshire will resonate with gop voters in new england on super tuesday. geoff: coming up, the results from the democratic caucus in nevada.

allyson: the next step for the gop presidential hopefuls is nevada. the caucus there is on tuesday. geoff: the democratic candidates just finishing up the nevada caucus. the votes were very close, in the end, it was hillary clinton over bernie sanders. hillary clinton: i'm so thrilled and grateful to all of my supporters out there. some may have doubted us, but we never doubted each other. geoff: the democratic front runner held off a last-minute surge from bernie sanders. he says he is proud of his campaign. allyson: speaking of bernie sanders, he has an event planned for greenville later today. he will hold the event at the bon secours wellness arena in downtown greenville this afternoon. geoff: doors will open at 3:00.

it will be all rain that we dry out by thursday. geoff: a strong voter turnout in greenville county, where the most registered voters live in south carolina. allyson: wyff news 4 corey davis reports more of you went to the polls this time than during the last two republican presidential primaries. >> there are nearly 300 thousand registered voters in greenville county, and roughly 93 thousand people voted. it was busy for workers behind the scenes. these all those were filled with information from precincts across the county. ballots from all of the precincts were counted here at the county headquarters. poll workers across the county had to trouble shoot throughout the day. but we're told they mostly had to deal with normal hiccups, like people who came in with old addresses, and some showing up at wrong precinct. >> it was a good day. the numbers fell off in the

it made for a good day. >> how was your voting experience? >> very quick. >> voters at the riverside high school precinct hardly had to wait in line. there was a high turnout there with more than 575 voters. folks here will be back at it again for the democratic primary. if you need to change your address, they advise that you get it done before tuesday, otherwise you'll have to get it done at your polling place, and that could put you there a little longer than you want. corey davis, wyff news four, in greenville. geoff: a follow-up to a story we showed you yesterday morning, during a live report jeb bush stopped by a greenville polling place to meet voters. allyson: that left many of you asking us, why was he allowed inside, and is it legal? according to south carolina state code, any candidate can be inside a location, but they can't wear anything identifying, like a button or sticker. >> the people who don't like that candidate, don't like him anywhere near the polls but

allyson: voters are not allowed to distribute any campaign literature or place political posters within two hundred feet of the entrance of a location. let's go back to wyff news 4's myra ruiz. she's ben following some non-political events that happened during the south carolina primary day. myra: we will turn to the headlines. columbia police say a fight led to shots being fired at a crowded mall. the columbia police chief said the incident happened at the columbiana mall last night, when two men were fighting. and a third man jumped in. police said at some point two of the men pulled out guns, and shot into the air. investigators said once the shots were fired. the people involved ran. right now police have not identified the suspects in the case. friends and family gathered in pendleton yesterday. they remembered the lives of four people killed in a quadruple homicide. they remembered mike and kathy scott barbara scott and violet

you may remember, all were found shot inside their home last november. anderson county deputies are consulting with criminal profilers with sled, hoping to gain some insight on the crimes, and who might be behind it. this morning, authorities in greenville and try to figure out how a boat ended up in the middle of a road. the incident happened at the intersection of east north street and pleasantburg drive. authorities have not said who owns the boat or if charges will , be filed in the accident. geoff: time for our news four timeline on this 21st of february. on this day in 1947, the first commercial instant camera was introduced. edwin land demonstrated the polaroid land camera at a meeting of the optical society

governor nikki haley joined others who went to the polls yesterday. allyson: cameras caught up with the governor. she voted, of course, for senator marco rubio who she , endorsed a few days ago. governor haley i am very : excited, it is a great day in south carolina. we are seeing a lot of turnout at the polls. the weather is perfect, people are excited. we make presidents in south carolina and we think it's going to be a great day for marco rubio. geoff: governor haley wasn't the only one casting her vote. that morrisallyson: some polling places still had some problems. some locations, were smoother than others. in taylors, at eastside high school, a wrestling tournament moved the polling location to a different part of the school, in simpsonville, a couple says, a polling volunteer made a mistake, allowing the husband to vote in place of his wife when an address change went awry.
